Free and bargain books November 18, 2019

It’s unbelievable. November is more than half-way gone already. It makes me want to yell slow down. Too bad that wouldn’t work. It’s probably partly my own fault anyway, the way time seems to fly past so quickly. Having my nose in a book for extended periods of time, completely unaware of the world around me, means the hours have flown by since the last time I looked at a clock. It’s an illusion. Although, some do say that time is moving faster than it did a century ago. Oh well, I’m sad but that’s not stopping me from reading. It’s too much fun.

So… this mornings BookBub suggestion sent me down another rabbit hole. The Deborah Raney rabbit hole this time. She has appeared on my radar many times through the years and it’s always been good from my perspective. Today there is one FREE full length novel and four BARGAIN books in her collection of published works on Amazon.

Almost Forever is book 1 in the Hanover Falls Series. I’ve not read this  Romantic/Suspense yet but plan on it. They’ve lost their firefighter spouses in the same tragic fire. They are drawn to each other but there are secrets that could drive them apart.

Almost Forever

A January Bride is book 2 in A Year of Weddings novella collection with various authors. This is a bargain at $0.99. The other books in this collection are $0.99 too, at least the ones I noticed. The full boxed collection is available but it is $19.99. It looks like it could be better to purchase them individually.

A January Bride

The next three novellas are unrelated and are all $1.25CD, (they may be lessor amounts in USD.)

Finally Home, Special Delivery, and Circle of Blessings.

Finally Home

Special Delivery

Circle of Blessings

All of these look interesting but my book budget for November is nearly blown (more quickly than usual, I might add) so it’s too early yet to use it all up. It’s very tempting though.

No one else has come through with suggestions for today but tomorrow is a new day, with new possibilities. In the meantime…

Happy Reading, all.

A FREE book from author Chautona Havig … Christmas Stalkings. This offer will be good until the 19th. Chautona is prolific and her stories are always fun. It looks like animals are part of the tale this time.

Christmas Stalkings

Chautona also has a new book coming out soon (Nov 29th) and the pre-order price is a bargain ($0.99 USD) Christmas on Breakers Point. This is a prequel to the new Independence Islands Series.

Christmas on Breakers Point

This morning there is an interesting email from BookBub with a bargain book ($0.99)  Deadly Legacy. This is book 7 in Margaret Daley’s Strong Women, Extraordinary Situations series. I’ve read most of the earlier books and I’m looking forward to this one too.

Deadly Legacy

Looking around a little while I’m there, it appears Deadly Hunt, book 1 in Strong Women, Extraordinary Situations, is also $0.99. The stories are all stand-alone so they can be read in any order, which is nice.

Deadly Hunt

BookRunes has an interesting FREE book this morning – Oh, Come On, Be Faithful. I haven’t read this author before although I see one of her books (one that isn’t free anymore) was downloaded last month. I’ve moved the first one to the top of the TBR list to fix that little detail. Maybe I’ll get them both read at once this time. The one not yet read is called The Protective Warrior and they are both billed as Romantic Suspense.

Oh, Come On, be Faithful

Happy Reading on a little bit warmer sunny day.

It’s above freezing today and the inch or two of snow hanging around is melting quickly in the sun.

It’s amazing how that happens. Follow a link to a free book on Amazon and suddenly one has turned into five. Books are like candy, irresistible, what can I say. I’m smiling big at the thought of this mornings treasures.

It started out with a FREE BookBub suggestion this morning. A light romance (I think) in a historical war time setting. Canteen Dreams

Canteen Dreams

This lead to a couple of bargain ($0.99) Christmas stories. Christmas by the Sea and Christmas Love and Joy a three book collection.

Christmas by the Sea

Christmas Love and Joy

Last came two FREE books. Amongst the Flames I’ve previously read and enjoyed. Brian’s Choice is new to me.

An awesome bargain book ($0.99) suggested by BookBub this morning. The Edge of Recall

I have been reading Kristen Heitzmann since pre-Kindle days, back when my weekly haul of books came from the local public library. There is always lots to sink your teeth into with this author and the synopsis promises to deliver once again.

The Edge of Recall

BookRunes has suggested a FREE book this morning. Love is Enough. I’m not sure if I’ve read Emma Easter before but the first page looks interesting so I’m going to give this one a try.

Love is Enough

It looks like it could be another good day for books.

This mornings BookBub suggestion is a bargain book at $0.99 Christmas Roses. I first met author, Amanda Cabot, in one of my favorite book collection series using five contributors. I really enjoy her writing.

The story line is similar to other books just like it but the style and expression of thought makes it unique. I love it when the first few pages have me hooked.

Christmas Roses

I’m tempted to dive right in but first, The Chain You Forge is crying out to be finished. It is still a bargain at $1.30.

It’s a modern retelling of A Christmas Carol and it works for me. Sometimes retellings don’t seem to work all that well but this one does. It has enough similarities but adds a few new twists and turns to make it feel fresh and real. I’m pleasantly surprised to like it.

The Chain You Forge

Like Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Benita is miserly and mean; in her business dealings and in the way she does life. Her late father was miserly and mean too and his ghost has visited to demand she change her ways. She will end up in chains like him unless she does. He decrees that the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future will visit her over the next three nights. To show her the truth of her life and what it will look like unless she makes drastic changes. She needs to become a better person.

Scrooge had a happy ending, maybe Benita will too.

BookRunes just came though with a FREE suggestion. Stepping Into The Light. Historical Fiction set in the Scottish Highlands. I’ve read and enjoyed Candee Fick before and expect this one will be a good read too. The first few paragraphs look promising.

Stepping Into The Light

An heir is needed to protect the future of the chiefdom but the prospective young ladies all meet with tragedy. Before they even have the chance to become the needed bride.

Recently, there was a similar sounding book but this doesn’t appear to be it. I enjoyed that one and this one does seem to have some differences, at first glance anyway. I’ll give it a try to see how it stacks up against the other one.

Happy Reading!

Free books November 5, 2019

It’s chilly here today, -10c feels like -18c with the wind. A perfect time to cozy up with a cup of tea and a good book. Especially a chilly Christmas book. The Chain You Forge, is inspired by Mr. Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ classic story A Christmas Carol.

This is our bargain for today at $1.31 and suggested by BookBub. Retelling of classic tales is popular these days. Some are better than others, it will be interesting to see what form  this one takes.

The Chain You Forge

I did find a couple of attractive looking FREE books on Amazon this morning.

Murder in Half Moon Bay is a cozy mystery that has been showing up regularly on the  FREE list for a number of years. It looks like fun. And now that I upload the cover it  appears it’s been mentioned here before. I guess it can’t hurt to show it again.

Murder on Half Moon Bay

This FREE one is new to me. Bear Creek. It’s a historical novel set in the old west (USA) back in the days of pioneers, outlaws, gunfights, and gun toting- fast shooting lawmen. I’m not sure what to expect from this author but I’m hoping for good things.

Bear Creek

I’m currently reading When Snowflakes Never Cease

When Snowflakes Never Cease

I’m up to book 3 of 5 and thoroughly enjoying it. If you haven’t downloaded it yet for the bargain price, there’s still time.

Free books November 4, 2019

BookBub’s suggestion this morning has been free before and is FREE again. A historical novel about life for USA pioneers travelling across the country by wagon train. Wagon Train Baby

Wagon Train Baby

The trip is difficult for anyone but it’s even harder for a young woman travelling alone. The wagon master’s rules say a woman isn’t allowed to travel with his group unless under the protection of a man. Her father planned to make the trip when they booked passage but changed his mind and backed out at the last minute.

She’s desperate to move back home and make a new life for herself. A young man travelling alone sees her distress and offers his protection. At least long enough to make the trip. He’s stepping up to help her out of a guilty conscience. His fiancé was killed in an attack and he’s convinced it was his fault. If he had been there …

She has a another dilemma. She is expecting a baby. A secret she must keep to herself or they will leave her behind no matter how much protection she has.

BookRunes FREE suggestion this morning is Uncommon Ground

I have downloaded several books from this author, Joy Ohagwu, but it’s been awhile and I can’t remember  enough about them to make a recommendation one way or the other. I’m looking forward to a reminder.

Uncommon Ground

Stella is widowed and struggling with a difficult relationship with her teenage daughter when disaster strikes, changing everything.

Searching for her daughter she meets Michael, a man with a mysterious past. Danger seems to follow him everywhere and life takes on unexpected twists and turns with him around.

Free, and not so free November 2, 2019

I have a few books for you today. Just like yesterday, there are several free and three not so free. I like the authors and wanted them. And I have to share. That’s why we have the not-so-free again today.

The first one is a BookBub suggestion and it’s $0.99 Threads of Suspicion a Dee Henderson book (she appeared on yesterday’s list.)

Threads of Suspicion

The next one came up for me on Amazon for $1.29 Heart of Stone by Lyn Cote. (we had one of her books yesterday, as well.)

Heart of Stone

Amazon again for all of the rest.

One Thursday Morning is $1.35 by T.K.Chapin. I don’t know him as well as the other two authors but have read a few of his books. I wanted to take a chance on this one too.

One Thursday Morning

The next two are FREE. They are among  my previously read books from 2014 and 2016 but I don’t remember a lot about them. I suspect I liked them though, if my vague recollections are what I think they are.

A Mystery, Gone The Next  Ben Rehder

Gone The Next

A Fantasy, Dreamlander K.M Weiland

Dreamlander

I hope you find some of these enticing.

Free, and not quite free November 1, 2019

I know, I mostly download free books (to feed my voracious reading habit) but I do budget in some not-so-free books every now and then. And, if it really seems important to my life – I’ll occasionally be willing to go full price.

This morning the BookBub daily email offers a $0.99 book that intrigues me, Secrets and Lies. I decided to check out the synopsis on Amazon. It sounds interesting. It turns out,  it’s on my already purchased list for 2017.

Long story short – investigation tells me it was on my Kindle but it’s not been mentioned on this blog as read. Why not? By the looks of it, on re-download, it seems I quit at 17% read. The mystery is … Why? Couldn’t get into it? Didn’t like it? Maybe a bit of both?

I can’t resist a mystery so… I’ve downloaded all three of Janet Sketchley’s books from my Amazon account, two previously owned and a new one today. I want to figure out why I finished reading one but not the other, and then try out the new one. After all this, I hope second time around will turn out to be a better experience.

Secrets and Lies is book 2 in A Redemption’s Edge Series. This is the one I didn’t finish reading for some reason.

Secrets and Lies TBR

Heaven’s Prey is book 1 in A Redemption’s Edge Series. I read it back in 2014 but wasn’t blogging then. This many years past I’m not sure how I felt about it and I’m curious.

Heaven's Prey

When I was researching Janet Sketchley on Amazon, trying to figure things out, I found the first book of another one of her series and it’s on at the bargain price of $1.32. I decided to give this one a try, hoping I like it.

Unknown Enemy, book 1 in A Green Dory Inn Mystery Series

Unknown Enemy

Finally, FREE

I didn’t want to end this post without leaving you with something FREE. I was looking for light-and-upbeat to change the tone of the post. Meant for Me doesn’t look like it will fit that category but I really like this author, Lyn Cote. It’s a new book for me too and I just couldn’t pass it up. I guess light will have to wait for another day.

Meant for Me

I love this cover.

A historical novel of women left behind to deal with life while their men have gone to war. This subject seems to be very popular these days.

It’s Friday and it’s snowing, light powdery stuff (which is better than wet and heavy) and it’s coming down in earnest at the moment but doesn’t amount to much, yet. Hopefully it will be over by tonight as promised by the weatherman. Tomorrow is Writer’s Group meeting in the city, an hour away. Clear roads would be nice. I’ll let you know how it goes. We meet in a historic house which is kind of cool. It was built in 1874 by the local sheriff. I’m hoping this link will work so you can see some pictures. It isn’t fancy but it’s still cool. We enjoy the feel of the place.

In the meantime Happy Reading
