a few more books read & enjoyed

No bargains or interesting free books today but, tomorrow is another day.

There are a few books-read to mention, though, so we’ll go there for a minute tonight. You know they had to be good reads because it’s only been two days since the last post like this.

A Christmas Wish is still FREE. It was a fun read despite the tension caused by the threat on their life.

A Christmas Wish

Megan lives a busy life; growing her fancy-cake business while parenting her niece after the death of her sister and brother-in-law a few years back. She’s entirely unaware of two things. A terrorist group is targeting both Megan and Nora, and five-year-old Nora desperately wants Santa to bring her a daddy for Christmas.

It’s a shock when FBI agent William Parker shows up at her door admitting he’s been watching them for several days, and he’s insisting they need protection. There are more shocks in store when she discovers he knows things she had never heard about her life.

In the middle of it all, Nora is falling in love with this man who knows how to relate to little kids. Having his undivided attention for weeks at the safe house only serves to deepen her attachment. She’s convinced he’s the one to be her daddy. Megan is not on the same page about any of it. Relationships have not worked out well for her and independence feels like the safer way to go.

There are lots of twists and turns in this story. It was hard to put down and was quickly finished.

Beautiful Storm was a fascinating read too. I loved it. It is not free anymore but it’s worth the price if you feel drawn to the story.

Beautiful Storm

This Amazon quote says it all so well

Tori’s life was perfect—a successful job, a doctor for a husband, and a pristine loft in Chicago—until her husband left her for someone else. With her divorce comes a surprise cabin in the Deep South, and she wants nothing more than to get rid of it so she can get her life back in order.

Marcus is the self-appointed guardian of his sister and three brothers, while their mother lives a toxic lifestyle, but one call to his auto repair shop from an entitled city girl turns his world upside down. He’s a master of reading people, but the feisty newcomer poses an interesting challenge.

Plain Everyday Heroes is free if you have Kindle Unlimited. This book collection didn’t rate as high on my like meter as the first two books but it was still interesting and worth reading.

Plain Everyday Heroes

Another Amazon quote

Heroes
They come in all shapes, sizes, and temperaments. Sometimes they’re
larger-than-life wonders who do grandiose things, but more often than
not, they’re ordinary people who do something that feels extraordinary
to the person they help. They’re just “Everyday Heroes.”

Playing with Fire by Laura V. Hilton, An Unlikely Hero by Rachel J. Good, Racing the Slow Girls by Thomas Nye

I’m currently reading Wildflowers (Garden of Love book 3) it’s not free anymore either but it’s good. I’m having trouble putting it down.

Wildflowers

Another Amazon quote for you

“Wildflowers” is a story of new beginnings. In recent months, Natalie Matthews’ well-ordered, independent life has become one of chaos and uncertainty. Her career as a travel photographer is in limbo, and her relationships on several fronts are complicated. She knows what she wants, but she wonders if her hopes are realistic and if what she desires will lead to the happiness she longs for.

Read and Enjoyed up to December 5, 2019

Books recently read and enjoyed.

The Highlanders: A Smitten Historical Romance Collection a variety of authors. I was drawn in tighter to some more than others but overall I thoroughly enjoyed the whole collection.

Never underestimate the heart of a Highlander. Four great books.

Night Fox, A Tender Siege, The Year without Summer, and The Violinist

The Highlanders

Sand Creek Serenade Jennifer Uhlarik

This is a book I couldn’t put down. So well written and engaging. One of my favorite reads this week.

One woman with a deep desire to serve and help. One brave who will stop at nothing to save his people. Each willing to die for their beliefs and love for one another. Will their sacrifice be enough?

As a female medical doctor in 1864, Sadie Hoppner is no stranger to tragedy and loss. Cheyenne brave Five Kills wants peace between his people and the American Army. *Amazon quote.

Sand Creek Serenade

The Soldiers of Purple Heart Ranch  Three books written by one author Shanae Johnson

This was such a good read too. It didn’t take me long to get through all three books. And, it’s still on at a bargain price $0.99, a good deal.

THE CORPORAL AND THE CHOIR GIRL, THE PRIVATE AND THE PASTOR’S DAUGHTER, THE SOLDIER AND THE SOCIALITEThe soldiers of the purple heart ranch

Another favorite read, so well done.

Orphaned Hearts (Heart of Africa Series) Marion Ueckermann

Bargain books December 4, 2019

Many of these free and bargain books we talk about are available on other platforms, like Kobo and others. I am so immersed in Amazon and Kindle that I forget to mention it, until I’m reminded of my friends using Kobo. Check it out, if you use another platform and haven’t already gone there.

A bargain ($1.32 CDN) book from BookBub this morning The Heart Hopes Lyn Cote, the Opposites Attract Series.

Here is a small quote from Amazon

What could unite a disgruntled DA and the pretty teacher, responsible for his hung jury? Perhaps a little boy in need of love…

The Heart Hopes

So, as I was browsing to see what else was lurking out there I found some other interesting treasures.

Wreck The Halls: a Worst Detective Ever Christmas novella by Christy Barritt ($1.32 CDN)

a snippet from Amazon – Deck the halls with boughs of . . . danger.

Joey Darling and her friend Starla McKnight are all set to host a new TV Christmas light special. But, before filming even begins, things go awry. Legs—with a human body attached—are sticking out of the family’s chimney, wrecking the feel-good holiday show.

Wreck the Halls

Christy Barritt also has a good selection of other bargain books right now as well. Too many to mention this morning but check it out if you are one of her fans. There are some good deals to be had.

Bargain Books November 30, 2019

Suggestions from another author this morning. Jennifer Youngblood has several interesting bargain collections for us.

The Christmas Bliss Collection (three books) is a bargain at 1.29 CDN The cover gives a light hearted fluff appearance but the synopsis holds a little more weight so I’ve downloaded this one to check it out.

The Christmas Bliss collection

Jennifer’s, The Cozy Fire Collection has five books, with 1075 total pages, a good deal at $1.32 CDN. The synopsis for these looks interesting too, so that’s another one added to my TBR list. I’m not looking for any more today, eight books between two collections will keep me busy for a while. It is tempting, though.

The Cozy Fire Collection

I’m currently reading Jane By The Book and it is living up to my expectations. It’s still FREE if you haven’t downloaded a copy.

Jane by The Book

Jane has arrived in England. Her friends new old Inn is beautiful and she’s excited about the business possibilities. She’s met Titus, the hyperactive mystery writer. He’s noticed she has her own mystery to solve for an illusive ancestor named Jane. He’s poking his nose into her business and she’s not sure she likes it, or him, very much.  Must see where this goes.

Happy Saturday and Happy Reading.

Free & bargain books November 29, 2019

A FREE book mentioned by one of my regular author contacts is written by popular author, Pepper Basham. Chautona Havig and Pepper often contribute to the same collections and I always like what they come up with. I know I will enjoy this new story too.

Jane By The Book

Healing from the shame of a wedding day that didn’t end in a marriage, Jane relocated and spent the last four years working in the grand old B & B of a friend.

The job has grown with her and she’s become expert at successfully managing the housekeeping end of a thriving hotel business. This skill, while confidence building, has created a problem for her. Her boss/friend (Nora) has roped Jane into helping her fiancé (Ethan) train staff for his newly acquired hotel in England. He is paying all of her expenses and it’s been years since she’s done any travelling, maybe it’s time to step out and explore new places. With that decided, she’s feeling quietly excited.

It doesn’t take long for Titus to enter the scene and turn her orderly life upside down. Unexpectedly, he finds dramatic changes in his life as well. The fiction stories ever consuming his attention suddenly aren’t quite as alluring as real life.

This sounds like a fun read.

Jane by The Book

BookRunes FREE suggestion today is Orphaned Hearts (A Heart of Africa Romance) Conservationist, Simon Hartley is left with a daughter to raise when his wife dies in childbirth. In his grief, his daughter and orphan elephants become his whole life.

Lady Abigail Chadwick wants to escape English society and postpone an arranged marriage. A year spent teaching in Africa’s Good Shepherd Orphanage will make this happen for her.

He is not thrilled about having to rescue a traveller stranded at the airport but he does it.

Orphaned Hearts

Happy day. A pre-order book arrived on my Kindle this morning. Christmas on Breakers Point is now available for download and it’s still a bargain at $1.32 CDN

Christmas on Breakers Point

I’m currently reading book 2 of the Amish collection Love’s Thankful Heart. Unfortunately it’s not free anymore but I noticed another collection from the same authors and it’s free.

Love's Thankful Heart

Plain Everyday Heroes is FREE today and based on the enjoyable reading experience of Love’s Thankful Heart, this is now on my TBR list.

Happy Reading on this wintery day. Although, some parts of the world are moving toward summer. Enjoy the reading and the warmth if summer is in your life.

Free book November 22, 2019

A slow book day is sounding really good to me right about now. I don’t how you are feeling about it but I’m finding that my TBR (to be read) list is becoming over whelming long.  I’m not keeping up (well, I wasn’t really anyway but now it’s getting way out of hand) and I’m going to have to start speed reading to even make a dent.

It has helped that a few of the books lately were like a meal I didn’t like all that well. With all of the other attractive choices on the table I could abandon the less tasty dishes and move on. Very helpful at a time like this.

Today the pickings are slim and I’m finding the Amazon free list has been over-mined with my searches and there’s not much (if anything) new there right now anyway.

Chautona Havig always (usually) has a Free Friday book so we’ll go with that today. I like her books because they leave me feeling lighter, and that’s a good thing.

Her FREE book this Friday is a Christmas story – which is great, being the right season and all. I love Christmas stories, songs, and even decorations, in season or out of season.

I have a few decorations around the house that have managed to stay up all year. More than a few times. They are well on their way to becoming permanent fixtures. My daughter rolls her eyes at me.

To change things up a bit I rearrange these words every now and then. My grandsons did the honors last time they were here. They are cute teenagers with a mischievous glint in their eyes and they are proud of their effort.

20191122_105729

So… back to Chautona’s FREE book,

It’s Merri’s Christmas Mission

Merri's Christmas Mission

This book was part of a previous Christmas collection so I’ve read and enjoyed already (a win/win for me.)

Merri is a young mom who loves Christmas and goes all-out to make it over-the-top special. The trouble is; she lost her job three months ago and money is tight.

All Barney wants is to win a pool table for the joy of the regulars (guys) at his adored non-profit Mission.

Their paths collide in this small town when they both set their eyes on the pool table contest as a way to make their dreams come true.

Will there be a winner with a devastated loser or will they find a way to make it a win-win situation?

You will have to read to find out.

Happy Friday with a little Christmas and, Happy Reading.

Free books November 21, 2019

BookBub suggested a FREE book this morning Operation Married by Christmas, written by an author showing up here regularly. It looks like a fun Christmas story, maybe it would even make a good Christmas movie.

Operation Married by Christmas

BookRunes has a suggestion today,  One Thursday Morning, by another regular author on this site. I downloaded this earlier this month but haven’t gotten to it yet.

One Thursday Morning

Currently I’m reading and loving The Trouble in Willow Falls. It is a fun read and has some great characters. It’s still FREE if you haven’t already snagged a copy

The Trouble in Willow Falls

’til tomorrow…

Happy reading!

Free and Bargain books November 19, 2019

Some interesting selections this morning from several sources.

BookRunes has two suggestions Day by Day (FREE) and A Promise for Christmas ($0.99 USD)

This author for Day by Day is new to me and the synopsis(?) is written rather differently, which raises a few questions in my mind about what the book will be like. The first couple of pages, though, portray feisty characters. I voted to take a chance and I’m hoping for a good read.

Day by Day

A Promise for Christmas ($0.99 USD.) This is another author new to me. It does look interesting though. I’m passing on this one purely for budgetary reasons (both time and money), I’ve read and enjoyed other books similar to this one lately. This one will be good too, I’m thinking.

A Promise for Christmas

Author Margaret Daley shared some FREE and bargain books in her email this morning, many of them wrtten by some of her friends. Like these three:

Loving Winter ($0.99 USD) Lyn Cote is on my favorite author list and this story looks good. I have many of her books but don’t have this one yet.

Loving Winter

A Doctor’s Promise (read and enjoyed) was free a while ago and is FREE now too. Happy news.

A Doctor's Promise

Last but not least, from Margaret’s email,  The Justin Hall Spy Thriller Box Set ($0.99 USD) with Ethan Jones. This author is new to me and I’m curious. Set-in-Canada is a drawing card, being Canadian and all, and the language seems to be expletive free, so I’m gong for it. I may not get through all three books but at least I’ll know if I like his style.

The Justin Hall box set

Well, that’s it for today. Not a bad selection at all. We have a fair bit of intriging variety again and I’m feeling pleased. It’s another good day for books.

Happy Reading.
