Free books for December 21, 2019

Chauona Havig’s FREE book this weekend is Not A WordI ordered this one last year and here it is, free again.

Not a Word

This time I’m giving you the whole Amazon quote …

Maybe there is a hell on earth.

All Mac has ever wanted was a chance to love Savannah. And when he gets it, nothing could be sweeter.

Right up to the moment she turns on him and flees their small town.

He’s stuck now—stuck in a place where everyone hates him. Stuck in a dead-end life and without the girl he can’t help but loving or understanding why.

Why did she pretend to care?
Why did she shred what little reputation he had?
Why did she leave without a word?
Why can’t he defend himself?

He hasn’t said one word against her or in his defense.

Find out why in Not a Word.

Because love doesn’t always die—even when your heart is crushed.

I found another FREE book on Amazon, one I downloaded in 2015 . I don’t remember reading it but it says I did. I will check it out along with you.

All for Anna

Amazon quote:

An empowering love story about letting go of guilt and holding on to hope.
When Tori Sales, a 23 year-old trauma nurse returns home, she’s determined to escape the painful memories that haunt her still…two years after the loss of Anna. But not even the distraction of a new job, an overbearing family, or a therapist who won’t take no for an answer can lessen the guilt trapped inside her.
After a chance encounter with a compassionate fireman, Tori sets out on a journey to find closure where she needs it most. But when a shocking revelation threatens the relationship she’s come to rely on, Tori is forced to make another life-altering decision. Will she stay with the man she loves or will she choose the escape she knows best…

Yesterday there was a bargain book (it’s still a bargain) and I loved this read. I just finished and have to say, it is my favorite of the week.

Well written with great character development, there are lots of believable twists and turns grabbing my interest. The absolute best is an intelligent feisty woman and a strong man who could love and appreciate her. London and Declan definitely both fit the bill on that score. Check it out to see if you agree with me.

A Mouse for the Duke

A Mouse for the Duke

London is a survivor and she is brilliant in finding ways to keep her head above water in a tough environment, including dressing down to fit a role.

Declan is dedicated to spending his efforts growing his family business. He wouldn’t take the time to pursue marriage if his grandfather wasn’t forcing him.

With a few short weeks to find a wife, he quickly agrees to an unsuitable marriage. A match not wanted by either of them, especially not by the bride-to-be.  There is someone, though, desperately wanting this marriage and they are willing do whatever it takes to make it happen. The plan could work … unless they meet up with someone smarter and more observant than they are.

I’m still basking in the glow of enjoyment from this book.

A happy Saturday, and Happy Reading to you.

BookRunes has a bargain book for us today that looks interesting. A Mouse for the Duke $1.31

The Amazon quote below makes this story sound quite enticing. A spunky and enterprising young woman, at a time in history when life was a man’s world and women were thwarted from business involvement. Thwarted is not too strong a word.

A Mouse for the Duke

Lord Declan Sheridan is content growing the family business. There’s no time for courting. He’s put all his energy, money and time into his custom furniture line. Declan is unprepared for the ultimatum given to him by his grandfather, the owner of Sheridan Furniture. Marry by Christmas or lose his inheritance!

London Taylor works as a lady’s maid by day, while secretly playing the stock market. Becoming “the mouse” was necessary to get the job. Everyone warned her that Tessa Hubbard was horrible to work for, but the job came with perks. It was supposed to be a simple thing. Wear a disguise, work hard and secretly play the stock market. When London overhears a plot, she is forced to make a choice that will alter the path of her life.

Currently, I’m still working on reading the mystery collection A Date With Danger.

A Date With Danger

It’s slow going for me, what with being distracted by a large work project that showed up demanding attention. But, there’s another book that’s been in my thoughts even more than this neglected collection. It’s one I’ve started but set aside, in a responsible moment.

The Camera Never Lies

The Camera Never Lies

This was recommended in an author’s (Chautona Havig) regular email. It is full price, not even a bargain, but I succumbed to temptation to check out this new  (to me) author.

Amazon quote says it well:

Daniel, Kelly, and Milly appear to be the perfect family. But an old camera will expose secrets no one wants developed.

Daniel Whitely is a successful marriage counselor and bestselling author, yet his own marriage is in crisis and his daughter is drifting further away each day. To make matters worse, the deadline for his second book has come and gone, and he still hasn’t written a single word.

When Daniel inherits an old camera from his grandfather, he notices an inscription on the bottom: “No matter what you think you might see, the camera never lies.”

Daniel is about to use his grandfather’s camera but he is disconcerted: he hasn’t taken any pictures and yet the old fashioned role of film is full.

When the pictures are developed he is incensed. Telling private moments are captured with the subjects of the photos seemingly unaware of being observed. He is set on finding out who has been using his camera without permission.

He has suspicions but he’s never right, which is embarrassing.

I stopped reading at a very intense moment … it’s hard to go back just yet, his sky is about to fall in and he’s not helping himself. I think I’d better stick with A Date With Danger a little bit longer, except I’m torn – I can’t stop thinking about his families dilemma.

in the meantime …  Happy Reading

Free book December 19, 2019

One FREE book from Bookbub this morning.

There could have been more as their list was longer but I’m always looking for clean. Clean is hard to come by these days. It’s rare in mainstream books so I don’t go there anymore. Last week there were a couple of books that I didn’t recognize in my usual search but I took a chance on them. They looked like they would be ok. Disappointingly, they weren’t. It creates a problem, to accept even mostly clean. The few I took a chance on were a perfect example of what happens when mostly clean is picked. All of a sudden more erotica than usual was showing up as I continued my free search, I had to give it up in frustration. Once I started reading the new books it all made sense. The algorithms recognized what I didn’t and jumped all over it. I’ll be more careful in the future.

This author, Liz Isaacson, writes clean and interesting stories.

The Sleigh on Seventeenth Street – Three Rivers Ranch Series book 14. I’ve read and enjoyed a number of books in this series so expect this one to be good as well.

The Sleigh on 17th Street

Excerpt from Amazon quote:

With a new development going in on the north end of Three Rivers, Camila Cruz is desperate to win the plumbing bid for the mom-and-pop plumbing shop she joined when she came to town four years ago. The project would keep the shop open and allow Cami to buy it from the owners who are ready to retire. It would be the perfect Christmas present.

Dylan Walker is determined to win the bid for Three Rivers Electric Company as well, and the only friendly face he can find at the announcement meeting is Cami’s. Okay, semi-friendly. She’s heard a lot of rumors about the handsome electrician who moonlights as a cowboy, and she doesn’t need her wounded heart to get another shock.

When they both win their respective bids and start to work together, sparks fly ….

I’m currently reading and enjoying book 2 in  A Date With Danger,  a six book Mystery/Suspense/Romance collection. This read falls on the light side – not as light as cozy mysteries but definitely lighter than most thrillers. Lighter is good for me right now so I’m loving this experience.  This collection is still a bargain at $1.32.

A Date With Danger

Amazon excerpt for the first book in this collection

Kimberly Rose Johnson
Librarian Nancy Daley loves a good mystery and enjoys moonlighting as a consultant for the sheriff’s department. Sheriff Deputy Carter Malone expects Tipton, Oregon to be a sleepy small-town, but he miscalculated. When the minor case they are working morphs into something more, things quickly go from harmless to scary. Can these two strong-willed sleuths solve the mystery before it’s too late, and more importantly, what will they do about their growing attraction?

Happy Reading on this wintery morning.

Free book December 18, 2019

One FREE book … today only, grab it quick like I did.

Corner Booth by Chautona Havig

Corner Booth

Amazon Quote:

A rushed lunch and a bold move “introduces” Carlie to a stranger–one who hardly acknowledges her existence as he sits across from her, sharing his booth to save her a wait in a long line.

What began as a random encounter becomes a weekly date in which Carlie chatters about her life to a silent lunchmate. Much about him interests her–his slightly Euro fashion sense, his commitment to the work he does as he eats his lunch week after week, and his evident attention to the running monologue she shares between bites of meals that he inevitably pays for.

Dean gets to know the woman across from him–looks forward to their lunches each week, learns valuable lessons about himself–but when the cafe is threatened, and then when she doesn’t show up one day, he suspects their unusual “friendship” means more to him than he imagined.

Free/bargain books recently read… December 16, 2019

There are no new free books so far today but… there are some old free books.

The one I just started reading is still FREE.  Whisper- the Pete Zendel Suspense Series. I’m liking it.

The first two chapters are pretty intense with burning buildings, armed and dangerous intruders, vehicles forced off the road. Accidentally witnessed drug deals in ancient ruins, resulting in crooks shooting and blowing up buildings to eliminate the threat to their freedom. Fortunately, the drug dealers and their thugs missed.

I’m thinking the two situations are probably linked. Check it out.

There would have been a better search for Free books if I had been home today. I needed/wanted to attend a funeral for a dear extended family member. It was in the city, an hour from me, and I had a couple of hours waiting time in the middle of everything. Perfect for some reading time.

I finished the book started yesterday. Longing for the Tormented Sheriff, Cassidy Hanton. Still a bargain at $1.31.

It was an okay story. Unique and well enough written. It moved too slowly for me – with a great number of books still waiting to be read. I admit to skipping ahead to the last three chapters, I wanted to see how it all turned, I did like the ending.

Looking for the cover to share here – it appears this download has not been mention in a post yet. I remember now, being uncertain about it and wanting to wait a bit. It turned out better than expected so that’s a plus.

Waiting time wasn’t over for me yet this afternoon so I started (and then finished at supper)  Bespoke: a Tiny Christmas Tale. It is a Victorian story with a bit of a fantasy twist to it. It was different but definitely a good read. It’s still FREE

Bespoke is a British word I wouldn’t have known except that it turned up in another book I read recently. I had to look it up to figure it out. My head still can’t make the connection between the meaning and the word but we’ll go with it. It is a term used for something ordered that is specific to you, such as business cards with your logo, or even a commissioned suit of clothes. In this case it was something forged in a unique, and unheard of, shape.

Bespoke

I’m looking forward to tomorrow, maybe it will have something new for us.

Happy Reading.

BookRunes has one FREE book for us today. Courage Dares Sisters of Spirit book 4

I’ve read the first three chapters and I’m hooked. It is definitely gripping suspense.

Here is Amazon’s comment.

OVERVIEW;
A tragic past; a dangerous present.
A cliffhanger on real cliffs.
The fighter pilot and the peace-loving mapmaker.

Courage Dares

I haven’t read this author – I’m hoping the story don’t disappoint but turns out to be as good as I think it is.

I’m currently reading, and loving, Peg Leg’s Princess. It’s still FREE if you need it.

There is more to this book than the cover suggests. A feisty little woman running from a mean step-father. A wounded soldier who thinks no woman would ever want him. She’s loved him since he saved her life ten years ago and she has no intention of letting him hold onto his misguided ideas. She has time. There is a guest ranch to keep them busy while he figures it out.

Peg Leg's Princess

Happy Reading on this chilly weekend.

I heard a comment on the radio the other day. Talking about some people surviving winter better than others. The opinion was that some don’t do winter better, they just dress warmer. That’s me today. It’s currently -24c outside, feels like -31c with the wind chill. I’m feeling the cool more than usual in the house today for some reason. Four warm layers plus a heavy fleece winter bath robe. Toasty.

Another FREE book December 13, 2019

Another FREE book to add to our list. Thanks Dianne!

Free books December 13, 2019

Some days are just full of treasures! This is one of those days. I didn’t mean to look for free books. I was just closing out an Amazon page left open from earlier, researching a book mentioned in my last post. My curiosity wouldn’t let me leave without checking the book ribbon at the bottom of the page. I’m so glad I took the time. I think I’ve found some gems.

Whisper – The Pete Zendel Suspense Series. A regular family. An old secret. And a dangerous enemy collide. Who will stand? (Amazon quote)

Whisper

Bespoke: a Tiny Christmas Tale

While the elusive Secret Symphony of Giovanni St. John captivated the world’s fascination, it left his daughter closed away in the Silent House – she, the one who holds the fullness of truth about the ninth symphony. Now Aria St. John is determined to not only break free of the loss that has defined her, but to honor her father through one final gift in his last days. (Amazon quote)

Bespoke

Redemption’s Edge – Redemption Mountain series book 1.

Someone says on Amazon – “A heartwarming, passionate story of loss, forgiveness, and redemption set in the untamed frontier during the tumultuous years following the Civil War. Ms. Davies’ engaging and complex characters draw you in from the start, creating an exciting introduction to this new historical western romance series.”

Redemption's Edge

Made For Each OtherGrandma Mandy Series book 1

When Lissa arrives in New Mexico, her grandmother is recovering from a mild illness so Grandma’s young friend, Jason, picks Lissa up from the airport. Though Lissa’s attraction to him is immediate, she refuses to be tempted into romance with a man in a creative profession. (Amazon quote)

Made for Each Oher

BookRunes has a FREE book today, A Merry Little Christmas, and it looks intriguing.

A Merry Little Christmas

A Merry Little Christmas is about Franny Martin—a woman who isn’t afraid to dream big. But most of all, A Merry Little Christmas is a love story about two people who come from different worlds. Charlie is all wealth and polish while Franny is a simple farm girl who has more spirit than money. In the process of making a “trading places” arrangement between them, they unearth some discoveries of the heart—that sometimes love comes when you’re least ready for it, and that love can bring the most impossible dreams within reach. (Amazon quote)

It seems crazy to mention more books than I can possibly read but… they have to be grabbed quickly, before they disappear, never to be found again. That happened to me yesterday. There were several suggested books I wanted to check out but when I clicked to a new screen by mistake – they were gone. Clicking the back button didn’t help. They slipped into the black hole… GONE. Grab them quick, while you can. That’s my daily cry of encouragement.

Happy Reading everyone!

Free book December 12, 2019

BookRunes has a FREE book for us today. Peg Leg’s Princess. I don’t really know this author – Cyndi Raye – but it looks interesting, from the little bit I read of it.

Peg Leg's Princess

Amazon says it well:

A man struggling with his past – A woman determined to help him overcome his pain – Outside forces that may destroy everything. Can they overcome these obstacles for love?

Josephine Johnson is determined to get away from her gambling step-father who lost her family home – the Union Station Inn. When she sees an advertisement for a cook in Montana Territory, she recognizes the name Zebediah Harris, a wounded civil war veteran who never came back to their small town. When she decides to leave to take the job as cook, she brings something with her that may very well land her in jail.

Zebediah Harris, or, Peg Leg, as everyone calls him, doesn’t believe he is good enough for anyone. He claims there isn’t a woman within ten miles who would want a one-legged man. When the cook they hire for the Pistol Springs Resort shows up, it turns out Joe was actually Jo, or Josephine, a woman he had saved from drowning years ago.

That’s it for today. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Happy Reading!

I’m still reading a Tuscan Legacy and liking it a lot. I’m on book 5, almost half way through. This collection is still a bargain today at $1.33

A Tuscan Legacy

Free books December 11, 2019

LPC books has some free books for us this week after all. It looks like they changed they minds and we aren’t complaining one bit.

Focus on Love (The Wardrobe series book 2) is a FREE book  (Tip: This has to have the complete name used for it to come up in an Amazon search. At least that’s how it behaved for me.) This was part of a box set earlier in 2019 and it was good. It’s about two photographers who start out as friends before they realize they are in competition with one another. What a way to discourage a budding romance.

Focus on Love

The Yuletide Angel has come up again as FREE. I think it’s only a few days since it was mentioned in my read & enjoyed post.

We picture angels as dressing in white but this angel dresses in black. She wants to blend in with the night so she can leave hampers on front porches without being seen. She’s become a legend, everyone knows about her gifts but no one has guessed her identity. Until, someone does notice. He sees a figure lurking about late one night, and investigates. Once he realizes who she is and what she’s doing he becomes concerned for her safety. He decides to follow her. Now they are both nervous.  She hears a few quiet steps but can’t tell who it is that’s following her.

The Yuletide angel

Whiter Than Snow is FREE.  I’ve read this a while back as part of a boxed set.

Jennifer has a broken arm and cracked ribs and she’s stuck home alone in the blizzard of the century.  Both the phone and the power have gone out and she needs to prepare to survive in the cold.

Rick, a volunteer fireman, is checking residences on the side of the mountain for anyone left stranded. He’s about to move her to a shelter in town when a tree comes crashing down. It’s huge and the gale force winds have toppled it onto his truck. Now they’re both stranded.

Whiter Than Snow

Enjoy the surprise of a few more free books.
