Free books for November 15, 2019

No interesting suggestions from the usual sources this morning but a search of Amazon  FREE books did present a couple of interesting choices.

The first two FREE books are from authors I’ve not read but the books looked interesting so I went for it. Cabin By The Lake and Works of Darkness look like they will be romantic/thrillers. At least the first one seems to fit the romantic genre, I’m not so sure about the second one yet.

Cabin by The Lake

Works of Darkness

The third FREE book is a light change of pace. It’s a book from my  2013 past and I remember liking it. I think you will find it a fun read too. Gentleman of Her Dreams

Free and Bargain books November 14, 2019

It’s amazing how that happens. Follow a link to a free book on Amazon and suddenly one has turned into five. Books are like candy, irresistible, what can I say. I’m smiling big at the thought of this mornings treasures.

It started out with a FREE BookBub suggestion this morning. A light romance (I think) in a historical war time setting. Canteen Dreams

Canteen Dreams

This lead to a couple of bargain ($0.99) Christmas stories. Christmas by the Sea and Christmas Love and Joy a three book collection.

Christmas Love and Joy

Last came two FREE books. Amongst the Flames I’ve previously read and enjoyed. Brian’s Choice is new to me.

I’ve enjoyed all of these authors and expect these new books will deliver nicely for us.

I hope you are smiling this morning too.

Free Books for November 12, 2019

Exciting news! After a slow period for FREE books, LPC Books (Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas) is offering eight free books. They will only be this price for several days so hurry to not miss out. Their email says the books are available in many areas so they should be free most anywhere Amazon covers.

If you have been following me for a time you may recognize some of these as having been offered a few months ago. It’s nice to see them being offered again.

The Zenia Wood  This one appears to be YA Fantasy. They are hiding out in Zenia Wood, struggling to escape their parents’ killer.

Winter's Fury A Jeremy Winter Thriller book 3, we’ve seen and enjoyed Tom Threadgill’s books before.

the bridge beween This one for sure I’ve mentioned before. One of my favorites. Romance category.

The Cowboys This is also a repeat. A western Romance collection with various authors.

Fashioning the Future One of my favorite authors. Well worth the read.

I'll Watch the Moon This is a new one by an author I enjoy. Looking forward to it.

Still Life in Shadows This one I did read years ago but can’t remember if I liked it.

Summers' Love This one is billed as a cute Cinderella story. I didn’t  love it when it came out a few months back but maybe that’s just me. I’ll include it this time so you have a chance to decide for yourself.

I think there are three I’ve not read before so I’m excited about that. Hopefully you find  something here to be excited about as well.

Free books, and a little snow, Nov 9, 2019

This has been a slow day for FREE books. I found two on Amazon. I’ve read both of them in the last four years but it looks like I will have to read them again, to jog my memory on what they are like.

come to me alive

A Romance: he has a successful music career, she lives in smalltown USA. Both have suffered through bad relationships. Taking a risk on another one is not an idea attractive to either of them.

miranda warning

I can’t remember reading this one but the first couple of pages are enticing so I’m looking forward to reading it again. It looks like it could have been written with a bit of lighthearted irreverence. I like a little dry humor in the middle of murder and mayhem.

One thing I like about snow on a cloudy night – the brilliance of the snow reflecting off the clouds lights up our world dispelling the deep black of night.

I am not a photographer, that’s for sure, but you will get the idea of what I’m talking about anyway.

This one was taken at midnight

This one was taken at 1:30 am

I could have taken another one at 4am when I looked out to see how pretty it was but I decided I’d best just put my book away and get some sleep.

Free books November 7, 2019

A FREE book today via BookBub, The River Girl’s Song.

A historical novel about a young girl left alone to care for her baby brother and her father’s farm, depending on friends to help her survive. We have seen this one before but it’s worth mentioning again.

The River Girl's Song

Another one FREE, found while searching Amazon. Shattered Rose.  I downloaded this one four years ago but don’t remember reading it. I’ll read it again along with you.

shattered Rose

A young woman with self esteem issues is crushed when the perfect man for her walks away. She meets someone else and her heart is slowly beginning to mend when  she discovers …

We will have to read the book to find out what she discovers.

One more book FREE. Stumbled over while viewing the last one.  A change of pace, Melody’s Christmas. An author new to me and the story looks interesting.

Melody's Christmas

A young woman home to help her mother with their business while grieving the loss of her father.

A neighbor, a single dad with a young son who decides Melody should be his new mom. A little awkward for dad.

Free books November 5, 2019

It’s chilly here today, -10c feels like -18c with the wind. A perfect time to cozy up with a cup of tea and a good book. Especially a chilly Christmas book. The Chain You Forge, is inspired by Mr. Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ classic story A Christmas Carol.

This is our bargain for today at $1.31 and suggested by BookBub. Retelling of classic tales is popular these days. Some are better than others, it will be interesting to see what form  this one takes.

The Chain You Forge

I did find a couple of attractive looking FREE books on Amazon this morning.

Murder in Half Moon Bay is a cozy mystery that has been showing up regularly on the  FREE list for a number of years. It looks like fun. And now that I upload the cover it  appears it’s been mentioned here before. I guess it can’t hurt to show it again.

Murder on Half Moon Bay

This FREE one is new to me. Bear Creek. It’s a historical novel set in the old west (USA) back in the days of pioneers, outlaws, gunfights, and gun toting- fast shooting lawmen. I’m not sure what to expect from this author but I’m hoping for good things.

Bear Creek

I’m currently reading When Snowflakes Never Cease

When Snowflakes Never Cease

I’m up to book 3 of 5 and thoroughly enjoying it. If you haven’t downloaded it yet for the bargain price, there’s still time.

Free, and not so free November 2, 2019

I have a few books for you today. Just like yesterday, there are several free and three not so free. I like the authors and wanted them. And I have to share. That’s why we have the not-so-free again today.

The first one is a BookBub suggestion and it’s $0.99 Threads of Suspicion a Dee Henderson book (she appeared on yesterday’s list.)

Threads of Suspicion

The next one came up for me on Amazon for $1.29 Heart of Stone by Lyn Cote. (we had one of her books yesterday, as well.)

Heart of Stone

Amazon again for all of the rest.

One Thursday Morning is $1.35 by T.K.Chapin. I don’t know him as well as the other two authors but have read a few of his books. I wanted to take a chance on this one too.

One Thursday Morning

The next two are FREE. They are among  my previously read books from 2014 and 2016 but I don’t remember a lot about them. I suspect I liked them though, if my vague recollections are what I think they are.

A Mystery, Gone The Next  Ben Rehder

Gone The Next

A Fantasy, Dreamlander K.M Weiland

Dreamlander

I hope you find some of these enticing.

Happy Reading!

Free, and not quite free November 1, 2019

I know, I mostly download free books (to feed my voracious reading habit) but I do budget in some not-so-free books every now and then. And, if it really seems important to my life – I’ll occasionally be willing to go full price.

This morning the BookBub daily email offers a $0.99 book that intrigues me, Secrets and Lies. I decided to check out the synopsis on Amazon. It sounds interesting. It turns out,  it’s on my already purchased list for 2017.

Long story short – investigation tells me it was on my Kindle but it’s not been mentioned on this blog as read. Why not? By the looks of it, on re-download, it seems I quit at 17% read. The mystery is … Why? Couldn’t get into it? Didn’t like it? Maybe a bit of both?

I can’t resist a mystery so… I’ve downloaded all three of Janet Sketchley’s books from my Amazon account, two previously owned and a new one today. I want to figure out why I finished reading one but not the other, and then try out the new one. After all this, I hope second time around will turn out to be a better experience.

Secrets and Lies is book 2 in A Redemption’s Edge Series. This is the one I didn’t finish reading for some reason.

Secrets and Lies TBR

Heaven’s Prey is book 1 in A Redemption’s Edge Series. I read it back in 2014 but wasn’t blogging then. This many years past I’m not sure how I felt about it and I’m curious.

Heaven's Prey

When I was researching Janet Sketchley on Amazon, trying to figure things out, I found the first book of another one of her series and it’s on at the bargain price of $1.32. I decided to give this one a try, hoping I like it.

Unknown Enemy, book 1 in A Green Dory Inn Mystery Series

Unknown Enemy

Finally, FREE

I didn’t want to end this post without leaving you with something FREE. I was looking for light-and-upbeat to change the tone of the post. Meant for Me doesn’t look like it will fit that category but I really like this author, Lyn Cote. It’s a new book for me too and I just couldn’t pass it up. I guess light will have to wait for another day.

Meant for Me

I love this cover.

A historical novel of women left behind to deal with life while their men have gone to war. This subject seems to be very popular these days.

It’s Friday and it’s snowing, light powdery stuff (which is better than wet and heavy) and it’s coming down in earnest at the moment but doesn’t amount to much, yet. Hopefully it will be over by tonight as promised by the weatherman. Tomorrow is Writer’s Group meeting in the city, an hour away. Clear roads would be nice. I’ll let you know how it goes. We meet in a historic house which is kind of cool. It was built in 1874 by the local sheriff. I’m hoping this link will work so you can see some pictures. It isn’t fancy but it’s still cool. We enjoy the feel of the place.

In the meantime Happy Reading

Two Free books October 30, 2019

Two FREE books and one recommendation. Well, three free books actually, counting the two today and one from yesterday.

The first one is via BookRunes and the second via an author I follow – Adam Blumer. (It sounds like he lives in an area with a climate similar to ours, it looks like they had a light dusting of snow too.)  The first two books are written by men, something I notice happening more and more in the kind of stories I’m drawn to. Very cool. Kindled Love and Kill Order

The third book is a recommendation, the thriller from yesterday. I wasn’t  sure about it at download but it turns out I’m half-way through and hooked. The way it’s written, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of angst to trigger negative emotional responses in me. I think maybe that’s why I can enjoy it even though the story has them hiding from a killer. It’s still free if you are interested in checking it out. Deadly Alliances

Kindled Love

Kill Order

Recommendation from yesterday

Deadly Alliances

Happy Reading… I hope you are loving it as much as I am today.

Free books October 29, 2019

Two Free books, one from yesterday and a new one today.

One of yesterday’s books was All of You and I was uncertain about it because the author was unfamiliar. Well, I’m reading it and loving it. It’s still FREE so I had to mention it again.

All of You

Jack (Jacqueline) restores vintage planes and, she is in danger at the hands of an abusive ex-fiancé. There is a parallel story in this tale – the life of WWII women delivering aircraft to wherever they are needed to help win the war.

A client is contracting Jack to restore a fighter plane used in the Second World War. The present and past are connected somehow. I haven’t read far enough to have that figured out yet.

In the meantime, her deployed brother is desperate to make sure his sister is protected from her abuser. He’s begged/guilted his wounded and sidelined partner Michael into providing her protection. A challenge. The difficulty with this plan: aside from the impairment of his injuries, she’s resisting his help.

This story has pulled me in, no question. Had to share.

The second FREE book looks interesting, after checking it out a little.

Deadly Alliances

I’m not sure about this one either but the first few pages drew me in.

Her brother is in witness protection for living through the murder of his young colleague. The shooter locked eyes with him and would have killed Prosecutor Reilly Tanner too if sirens hadn’t arrived in time to scare him off .

Even in protection, Reilly’s life is in danger of  assassins and his sister is determined to find ways protect him.

Meet Milana Tanner, Deputy US Marshall.

It will be interesting to see if this keeps me reading all the way through. I hope it does.

Happy Reading, everyone!

P.S. it’s snowing 🙂
