Free books November 25, 2019

BookRunes FREE book suggestion today,  Among the Poppies is the powerful story of courage and determination in the face of danger and critical public opinion.

Gwyn has learned, and learned to love, auto mechanics living life close to the side of her chauffeur father. She’s also learned the art of being a lady at the hands of her benefactress and father’s employer. Social norms of the day are restrictive, a woman driving and fixing automobiles was just not done. Gwyn doesn’t care about any of that. There is a desperate need for ambulance drivers with mechanics to keep them on the road. Gwyn has the skills to do both and she plans to answer the call.

What she doesn’t plan on is to attract the romantic interest of a handsome officer who can’t help but worry about her safety. He can worry but she will go where she’s ordered. Even to the front lines in the midst of battle. The wounded need her.

I think her courage is inspiring to all of us, not just to women.

Her loving officer was a good man, supporting her in the face of danger.

This book was free in the spring and the reading was memorable.

Among the Poppies

BookBub offers a FREE suggestion today too. The Healing Journey, book 12 in The Mountain Series

This Healing Journey

This historical novel is set in the pioneer days of the Canadian Rockies. A young woman sets out on a search for the son her father was forced to give up many years earlier. Her path crosses with that of a young pioneer man. An injured child has appeared on his homestead and he needs her help caring for the little girl.

I’ve not read this story but I have downloaded five other books in this series by Misty M. Beller. For sure I’ve read two of them. I’m looking forward to checking this one out after reading the first few pages.

Happy Reading

We are so excited, here in Manitoba, Canada. Our football team The Winnipeg Blue Bombers won the Canadian Football League Grey Cup last night after  a very long losing streak. It has been twenty nine years since the last Winnipeg Grey Cup win in the championship battle between the East and the West.

We were the underdog in this match with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, a team from Ontario Canada, and the media was predicting a Hamilton win. (The Bombers hadn’t won against them so far this year.)

This game was different. The Bombers were hungry for a win and, to-a-man, they were willing to do whatever it took. One of their best guys was playing injured and not about to be stopped. It worked. They won 33 to 13.

Winnipeg is a staunch, and very vocal, Bomber town. It would be an understatement to say we are over the moon with this win. Everyone is talking about it. There will be a victory parade through town tomorrow. Celebration time.

Free book November 22, 2019

A slow book day is sounding really good to me right about now. I don’t how you are feeling about it but I’m finding that my TBR (to be read) list is becoming over whelming long.  I’m not keeping up (well, I wasn’t really anyway but now it’s getting way out of hand) and I’m going to have to start speed reading to even make a dent.

It has helped that a few of the books lately were like a meal I didn’t like all that well. With all of the other attractive choices on the table I could abandon the less tasty dishes and move on. Very helpful at a time like this.

Today the pickings are slim and I’m finding the Amazon free list has been over-mined with my searches and there’s not much (if anything) new there right now anyway.

Chautona Havig always (usually) has a Free Friday book so we’ll go with that today. I like her books because they leave me feeling lighter, and that’s a good thing.

Her FREE book this Friday is a Christmas story – which is great, being the right season and all. I love Christmas stories, songs, and even decorations, in season or out of season.

I have a few decorations around the house that have managed to stay up all year. More than a few times. They are well on their way to becoming permanent fixtures. My daughter rolls her eyes at me.

To change things up a bit I rearrange these words every now and then. My grandsons did the honors last time they were here. They are cute teenagers with a mischievous glint in their eyes and they are proud of their effort.

So… back to Chautona’s FREE book,

It’s Merri’s Christmas Mission

Merri's Christmas Mission

This book was part of a previous Christmas collection so I’ve read and enjoyed already (a win/win for me.)

Merri is a young mom who loves Christmas and goes all-out to make it over-the-top special. The trouble is; she lost her job three months ago and money is tight.

All Barney wants is to win a pool table for the joy of the regulars (guys) at his adored non-profit Mission.

Their paths collide in this small town when they both set their eyes on the pool table contest as a way to make their dreams come true.

Will there be a winner with a devastated loser or will they find a way to make it a win-win situation?

You will have to read to find out.

Happy Friday with a little Christmas and, Happy Reading.

BookBub suggested a FREE book this morning Operation Married by Christmas, written by an author showing up here regularly. It looks like a fun Christmas story, maybe it would even make a good Christmas movie.

Operation Married by Christmas

BookRunes has a suggestion today,  One Thursday Morning, by another regular author on this site. I downloaded this earlier this month but haven’t gotten to it yet.

One Thursday Morning

Currently I’m reading and loving The Trouble in Willow Falls. It is a fun read and has some great characters. It’s still FREE if you haven’t already snagged a copy

The Trouble in Willow Falls

’til tomorrow…

Happy reading!

A nice bunch of Free books November 20, 2019

We have a nice bunch of FREE books today from Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas (LPC Books). I’m always excited when I see their email because they often have newly published book in the list. There are six books this time and all but two are new to me. This makes my Day! Hurry is a must as these are only free until November 22nd.

The Trouble in Willow Falls The Trouble in Willow Falls is book 2 in the  series about the struggles of small town life trying to re-invent itself.

God Bless the Child  God Bless the Child must be book 2 or 3 or so in the Main Street Clinic Series, unless there is another similar series and I’m mixing them up. In any event, it’s a touching story about a family therapist with a big heart for hurting and troubled children.

Mourning Dove Mourning Dove  a historical novel set in the 1970’s deep south, Memphis Tennessee. It’s the story of two siblings with a complicated life. In this case both the book and the author are new to me. An new adventure.

A Perfect Weakness  A Perfect Weakness has been on the FREE list before and I have read it. It’s about a doctor who, for guilt reasons, decided to stop practicing, and he’s arriving in a pioneer town where they are in desperate need of him. In fact they expected he would be replacing their aging doctor. They do their best to limp along without his help, until disaster strikes.  Sometimes life gives us a chance to make new decisions — if only we will.

Life in Chapel Srings  Life in Chapel Springs is book 4 in the series   The ups and downs of small town life while trying  to keep a low profile in a high profile world. It appears I’ve already downloaded books 1 and 3 in this series but I’m not sure I’ve read them. A mystery in need of solving.

Tested by Fire  Tested by Fire is book 1 in the Medic-7  Series and has been FREE before. I do remember reading this one, it was worth it, for sure.

Happy Reading!

Free and Bargain books November 19, 2019

Some interesting selections this morning from several sources.

BookRunes has two suggestions Day by Day (FREE) and A Promise for Christmas ($0.99 USD)

This author for Day by Day is new to me and the synopsis(?) is written rather differently, which raises a few questions in my mind about what the book will be like. The first couple of pages, though, portray feisty characters. I voted to take a chance and I’m hoping for a good read.

Day by Day

A Promise for Christmas ($0.99 USD.) This is another author new to me. It does look interesting though. I’m passing on this one purely for budgetary reasons (both time and money), I’ve read and enjoyed other books similar to this one lately. This one will be good too, I’m thinking.

A Promise for Christmas

Author Margaret Daley shared some FREE and bargain books in her email this morning, many of them wrtten by some of her friends. Like these three:

Loving Winter ($0.99 USD) Lyn Cote is on my favorite author list and this story looks good. I have many of her books but don’t have this one yet.

Loving Winter

A Doctor’s Promise (read and enjoyed) was free a while ago and is FREE now too. Happy news.

A Doctor's Promise

Last but not least, from Margaret’s email,  The Justin Hall Spy Thriller Box Set ($0.99 USD) with Ethan Jones. This author is new to me and I’m curious. Set-in-Canada is a drawing card, being Canadian and all, and the language seems to be expletive free, so I’m gong for it. I may not get through all three books but at least I’ll know if I like his style.

The Justin Hall box set

Well, that’s it for today. Not a bad selection at all. We have a fair bit of intriging variety again and I’m feeling pleased. It’s another good day for books.

Happy Reading.

Free and bargain books November 18, 2019

It’s unbelievable. November is more than half-way gone already. It makes me want to yell slow down. Too bad that wouldn’t work. It’s probably partly my own fault anyway, the way time seems to fly past so quickly. Having my nose in a book for extended periods of time, completely unaware of the world around me, means the hours have flown by since the last time I looked at a clock. It’s an illusion. Although, some do say that time is moving faster than it did a century ago. Oh well, I’m sad but that’s not stopping me from reading. It’s too much fun.

So… this mornings BookBub suggestion sent me down another rabbit hole. The Deborah Raney rabbit hole this time. She has appeared on my radar many times through the years and it’s always been good from my perspective. Today there is one FREE full length novel and four BARGAIN books in her collection of published works on Amazon.

Almost Forever is book 1 in the Hanover Falls Series. I’ve not read this  Romantic/Suspense yet but plan on it. They’ve lost their firefighter spouses in the same tragic fire. They are drawn to each other but there are secrets that could drive them apart.

Almost Forever

A January Bride is book 2 in A Year of Weddings novella collection with various authors. This is a bargain at $0.99. The other books in this collection are $0.99 too, at least the ones I noticed. The full boxed collection is available but it is $19.99. It looks like it could be better to purchase them individually.

A January Bride

The next three novellas are unrelated and are all $1.25CD, (they may be lessor amounts in USD.)

Finally Home, Special Delivery, and Circle of Blessings.

Finally Home

Special Delivery

Circle of Blessings

All of these look interesting but my book budget for November is nearly blown (more quickly than usual, I might add) so it’s too early yet to use it all up. It’s very tempting though.

No one else has come through with suggestions for today but tomorrow is a new day, with new possibilities. In the meantime…

Happy Reading, all.

Free books November 17, 2019

Author Jennifer Youngblood has a FREE book today The Hot Headed Patriot. I’ve read this one as well as some of her other books and while her style of writing is not my favorite it is still a reasonable read. It all boils down to personal preference, I think. I prefer fewer romantic moments and more story substance, personally.

Hot Headed Patriot

I stumbled across several other FREE books as I was checking out Jennifer Youngblood’s book. Two popped up,  A Path Less Travelled and Always and Forever

A Path Less Travelled

A Path Less Travelled has been mentioned before, it is book one I in A Miller Creek series. I can definitely recommend this series.

Always and Forever

I’ve not read this book, Always and Forever but have read this author before. It’s been awhile though (2012) and I don’t remember too much.

Happy Reading

Free and bargain books Nov 16, 2019

A FREE book from author Chautona Havig … Christmas Stalkings. This offer will be good until the 19th. Chautona is prolific and her stories are always fun. It looks like animals are part of the tale this time.

Christmas Stalkings

Chautona also has a new book coming out soon (Nov 29th) and the pre-order price is a bargain ($0.99 USD) Christmas on Breakers Point. This is a prequel to the new Independence Islands Series.

Christmas on Breakers Point

This morning there is an interesting email from BookBub with a bargain book ($0.99)  Deadly Legacy. This is book 7 in Margaret Daley’s Strong Women, Extraordinary Situations series. I’ve read most of the earlier books and I’m looking forward to this one too.

Deadly Legacy

Looking around a little while I’m there, it appears Deadly Hunt, book 1 in Strong Women, Extraordinary Situations, is also $0.99. The stories are all stand-alone so they can be read in any order, which is nice.

Deadly Hunt

BookRunes has an interesting FREE book this morning – Oh, Come On, Be Faithful. I haven’t read this author before although I see one of her books (one that isn’t free anymore) was downloaded last month. I’ve moved the first one to the top of the TBR list to fix that little detail. Maybe I’ll get them both read at once this time. The one not yet read is called The Protective Warrior and they are both billed as Romantic Suspense.

Oh, Come On, be Faithful

Happy Reading on a little bit warmer sunny day.

It’s above freezing today and the inch or two of snow hanging around is melting quickly in the sun.

Free books for November 15, 2019

No interesting suggestions from the usual sources this morning but a search of Amazon  FREE books did present a couple of interesting choices.

The first two FREE books are from authors I’ve not read but the books looked interesting so I went for it. Cabin By The Lake and Works of Darkness look like they will be romantic/thrillers. At least the first one seems to fit the romantic genre, I’m not so sure about the second one yet.

Cabin by The Lake

Works of Darkness

The third FREE book is a light change of pace. It’s a book from my  2013 past and I remember liking it. I think you will find it a fun read too. Gentleman of Her Dreams

Happy Friday Reading

Books Read and Enjoyed November 14 2019

There are a lot of books on my have-read list. I’m not sure how I managed to get so far behind in adding them to my read list on here. Spending too much time reading and not enough blogging will do it.

There is quite a variety and it was fun reading them. Historical, Romance, Mystery, Thriller. Lighter, deeper, and everything in between.

Laying them out like this was amazing. There are some great covers here, and it was  nice to be reminded of the stories. Time goes by and it’s so easy to forget the experience.
