BookRunes has a FREE Romance suggestion for us today. I’ve not read this author so we get to meet someone new, unless you’ve encountered her before. Looking around a little, I’m thinking this may not be a five star read. It may be a tell rather than show experience which is not my favorite.

The Baron’s Malady: A Smithfield Market Regency Romance: Book 4

Lord Gideon Ward lived for adventure.

With unrest brewing in India, it was all too easy to ignore the trials existing back home with the Scarlet Fever ravaging the country.

A frantic search for a doctor brings him into contact with Josephine Noe, whose own life has been fully changed in the wake of tragedy left behind by the disease.

He is a Baron now, and who is she but another poor young woman.

A good day for book selections. Two new ones have been added to my TBR list and I’m happy. I’m hoping you are finding some to be added to your list as well.

Happy Reading …

… on this cool and cloudy day. A furnace kind of day to be comfortable. Such a drastic change after the hot weather of a few days ago.

It’s the perfect day to bake. A nice bread pudding with lots of fruit will make a perfect lunch, and a few breakfasts.

I couldn’t wait for it to cool down enough to make a good looking slice. Raisins, cranberries, bananas, zucchini, and best of all, lots of chocolate chips. Yum. Along with bread, milk and eggs … you could say it’s a sandwich. Don’t you think?

A little story and a Free book September 02, 2020

This year is going by way too fast. I still have some Christmas decorations about the house. I was looking at them the other day thinking there are so few days left in the year there’s no use putting them away now.

I doubt I could have talked myself into it anyway. I kind of like having them around all the time.

My kids will be here Saturday to take me to lunch for my birthday and they may give me a hard time about them still gracing the fireplace. I won’t share that a bowl full of tree ornaments off the dining room table did make it back in the storeroom a few weeks ago. I was cleaning up for company that didn’t materialize.

I’m excited about seeing my family. Not just for lunch, although I’m looking forward to it. They are also going to clean my gutters while they are here. It’s been a few years since they were done and I’m sure they are badly in need of a good wash. I’ve been tempted this summer to go up on the roof myself, since I’m the only one here to do it. Common sense prevailed. I’d probably fall off and kill my self or break something.

I probably wouldn’t have had to lie there very long before help came. The neighbors have windows over looking my backyard. They’d probably notice the unusual activity in time to see me fall. Knowing that almost gave me the courage to try, except I couldn’t figure how to pull myself up on the roof without destroying the gutters. I’m vertically challenged and age is against me. Spoils all my fun.

It will be something to see what’s in the gutters besides grit off the shingles. I suspect there could be birds nests. I’ve had that thought other years too as I could sometimes hear birds that seemed very close. This year I think there may be more than just the usual small birds I had in mind. The Mourning doves seem to be in larger numbers this year and they spend a lot of time flying around my roof. I keep surprising them in the flower beds too. Lots of babies this year. Hopefully the nests will be empty by now and not in any danger from us.

There isn’t much going on in the book realm tonight so this unintentional story gave me something to say when I thought I had nothing. Seems to be the story of my life (haha)

BookRunes has a FREE book suggestion for us today and it’s the only thing on the agenda.

I like reading books like this one, always have. Learning new insights has been more than helpful on my journey through the years.

My only hesitation in mentioning the book here is I’ve not read this author before. At least not that I recall. Some authors are more helpful than others and reading through the chapter headings I’m not sure what to think. I’m going to read it and if it doesn’t sit well I have no problem casting it aside. Hopefully it will turn out to be good counsel.

I’m happy with the title. I love having God as my therapist. He knows everything about me. I don’t have to struggle to express anything. He always knows.

It will be an adventure to see if this book holds helpful nuggets. I’m hoping.

If God Were Your Therapist

Amazon quote:

Technological advancements have made our lives increasingly comfortable, safe, and easy; and we have more opportunities and advantages available to us today than ever before.

Given the high level of both opportunity and comfort, one would expect people to be happier than ever, and even more satisfied with their lives. The reality, though, is startlingly different. Instead of thriving and feeling empowered as a result of greater choices, we are deteriorating.

According to the latest research, one in four Americans suffers from mental illness. The drug companies try to keep pace, with the sales of anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, and mood-stabilizing drugs at record levels, and tens of millions of new prescriptions being written each year.

But that doesn’t seem to be enough.

Many people are finding life just too painful. Every day, 80 Americans take their own lives, and over 1,900 Americans visit Emergency Departments for self-inflicted injury.

So why are we suffering from such emotional pain and anguish? Drawing on timeless wisdom and fundamental principles in psychology, If God Were Your Therapist offers insights into the human condition, and reveals how regardless of the opportunities available to us today, a lack of self-control results in poor choices, and ultimately leads to negative emotions and destructive habits.

As a solution, this book offers neither exercises or affirmations, nor meditations or motivating mantras. There is no homework to do or journals to fill out. Rather, readers learn how to regain self-control and move their thoughts, choices, and lives in a purposeful, powerful, direction, free from the shackles of anxiety and stress.

Patrick's Journey

Amazon quote:

Dublin Harbour, Ireland, 1793:

When the convict ship Boddington left Ireland’s shores Patrick Rourke felt as though he was sailing away from his soul as well as from his home land.

Not so very long before he had everything to live for – he was young, strong and healthy, had a loving family and had won the affection of his sweetheart Catherine.

Then, a relatively minor confrontation with the occupying British Redcoats escalated beyond all foreseeable consequences. Patrick became a pawn in the political aspirations of the United Irishmen and suffered the wrath of the British dominated Irish penal system.

With everything he held dear seemingly lost, Patrick found himself thrust into an emotional and physical journey that saw him plummet into the depths of rage and despair as he was transported to the penal colony of New South Wales.

Would he ever see his family or his beloved Ireland again ? And Catherine – all his future revolved around Catherine – what could he hope to offer her now ?

Happy Reading …

from a happy camper. That’s me. The prediction for today was HOT and I was scurrying around getting things done before it hit.

It’s a win/win. The tasks are done and the heat hasn’t materialized.

It’s grey and windy and looks like a storm could hit anyway.

I was worried about my newly planted flowering tree. The wind is often wild around here, whipping things around like crazy. The young tree didn’t stand much chance in the last storm and was leaning over before the protective staking could be installed.

I was on a mission this morning, looking for information and a source of supplies to take care of my tree. Information was great but finding the needed stake was a little bit of chaos. It was the blind leading the blind. I don’t think the young guy serving me knew anymore than I did when it came time to find the stake in the back lot of the lumber yard.

I was expecting wood but ended up with metal. It turned out alright. It’s green and fits with the tree just fine. The next challenge was pounding the two of them into the ground. The stake is 6 ft high and I’m not. My neighbor bailed me out and did the honors. Piece of cake for him.

Now I can watch and worry it’s tied too tight.  Maybe it will break off if gale force winds come whipping through.

This is like being a new mom full of insecurities. I worry too much.

I’m going back to my original thought. It’s been a good day. And my tree looks good standing straighter.

Garnet’s Gift: Christian historical romance (Carrie Town Texas Book 6)

Garnet's gift

Amazon quote:

Twenty-two-year-old Garnet Adams longs to marry and have a houseful of children. Forced to support her widowed mother, she embraces her role as a teacher, although the Carrie Town board of education’s rules for female teachers leave no opportunity for a social life. She contents herself playing the violin at church.

Tall, bearded, and rough around the edges, Deputy Noah Scott would rather hunt than socialize. Garnet thinks he’s a rude, insensitive drifter, and Noah’s sure the last person he’d want to court is a schoolmarm–especially with her unladylike sneeze. As the needs of her students bring them together, opposites seem to attract until a certain Christmas present derails their future.

The sun is shining at my house and it’s the end of a work day. I will enjoy relaxing while finishing 3 and staring number 4.

Happy  Reading!

Tomorrow I have an 8 a.m. appointment, I’m not a morning person. The consolation is, there will be lots of reading time while my car has a check-up. At least it’s not me having the check-up,there is that.

Nothing else interesting is popping out at me so I’m off to the garden and the pile of work I have plans for accomplishing on this beautiful sunny day.

My current read is dragging. I want to see how it ends but it is a little painful getting there.

Lost Down Deep

I think next I’ll try a book that seems a little weird with my first taste of it. I’ll give it a try and send it packing if it doesn’t work out for me. The collection of books barely started and not pursued is growing and needs weeding out again. I do hope this one turns into a good read though. I’ll let you know what happens.

Happy Reading on a beautiful Saturday.
