It’s been a few days since we’ve downloaded any new books and it’s a nice surprise to see some today. BookBub has a FREE suggestion for us from an author enjoyed by many.

… from a distracted blogger.

I left my computer needing to refresh my memory on the title of my current read.  The intention was to grab my Kindle and return to the blog. I’m not sure how it happened but I noticed a spill on the kitchen floor that I just had to investigate and clean up. My stomach growled and I remembered my plan for a dish of ice-cream. I cannot eat ice-cream without reading, of course. A few chapters later my thoughts turned to the plants in the living room needing water. I’d best do it now before I turn in for the night, not leave it again for another day.

Walking past the computer – Oh no. I was in the middle of a blog post.

I have now refreshed my memory on the current read, finished the blog post (almost) and will water the plants before turning out the lights. Unless I forget and read a few more chapters first. It’s been known to happen.

Random thoughts for July 18, 2020

This is a random thoughts, no books, kind of day. It was good in so many ways.

It started early, to make the hour trip into the city in time to meet up with the rest of our writers group. An impromptu picnic in a beautiful and popular park was the plan. With covid, it’s been a long time since we last met, the first Saturday in February in fact. The extroverts among us couldn’t bear to wait any longer and so, The Picnic.

Usually at an event like this we have pot luck lunches, we bring all sorts of interesting dishes to contribute to the meal.

We behaved well during this social distancing time. Most of us just brought a sandwich and a drink of some sort. Betty, the lady I traveled with, was highly disappointed with the food situation. She likes things to be an event not the ho hum I could do this at home routine.

By the time it was over she had forgotten her thoughts on food and was reliving the good time we had visiting with friends of like mind. Not everyone in our life gets our love for writing. Sometimes we forget and fail to appreciate how much encouragement we gain from time spent with our writer friends. The aftermath of Covid has been a good reminder for us.

We  (Betty and I) don’t see each other all that often even though we live in the same small city, and it was nice to catch up on the drive to and from. When I dropped her off we said our good byes suggesting we should do lunch sometime.

Sometime came sooner than expected. Her coffee mug was left in my car and that had her dropping by to retrieve it.

The forgetting turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

For some reason it felt like a downer when I got home after the day away. I was tired and feeling crummy. Blaming it on the early morning I took a nap that made only a marginal difference. It wasn’t too long after my nap there was a phone call about the neglected and forgotten coffee mug.

Sometimes it pays to go ahead and do things even when desire is not there.

With minimal enthusiasm on my part we went on an adventure to find somewhere interesting to have supper. Neither of us go out for meals all that often so we have no clue about where’s a good place to go.

We tried one new place everyone was talking about but it was take out only. Not what we needed. There was one more place we had both heard about and hoped they had inside seating and no line ups.

The pizza at the golf course’s new restaurant was delicious and the view of the golf greens next to our patio table added to the ambiance.

I think our outlook on life had improved considerably with the experience. We seemed to be in agreement on that.

It was a wonderful day all the way around and now group plans are underway to meet next month too.

Well, there were no new books today but there’s no shortage of reading material with all the offerings we’ve had lately.

I’m almost finished Cold Shot and it’s still a bargain. I think it’s worth the $1.99.

I learned something new with this book. Cold shot is sniper terminology and you have to be good to pull it off. Not sure this will be useful info but it is new.

Well, it was quite a day for my car (I mentioned this morning’s 8 a.m. appointment yesterday) I’m sure all the poking and prodding was a shock to his system. (My car is not delicate and fragile, it’s heavy, strong, and able to take on challenges, I’m sure it’s a he.)

(At least I haven’t named him, yet.)

Not only did he have to live through an oil change and all that entails, there was more, all first time experiences. A transmission service, rear differential service, transfer case service, and a flush of the brake system.  Sounds like a shocking experience to me.

I haven’t decided if I should be happy or sad that life has had reason to acquaint me with many of the important moving parts on a car. For today I’ll feel happy. At least I knew what they were talking about when they listed all the things that needed to happen at this mileage.

On the bright side it took 8 years to get to this point. Not too shabby. Best of all though, there shouldn’t be any time spent sitting on the side of the road. Been there done that.

We’ll leave those stories for another day while I bask in today’s happy feelings. Life is good.

How are things at your house? You may not wish to answer but I think it’s nice to know someone asked an honest question. Today it’s an honest question. I’m thinking but can’t imagine your day, never having been to most of your countries. Whatever your day is like I hope there are some bright spots.

My current read is a bright spot in my day. I’m on book 3 in the collection and it’s still a bargain at $0.99. It has been a marathon read ( in my spare time) and I’ve made it this far without feeling bored. A good recommendation I think.

Actually, I’ve read the last one. I thought it sounded familiar when reading the synopsis and it is. It’s from last fall and I remember liking it. I see I’ve read Mathis before too – book one in the Thousand Island series. Small world.

Free and bargain books July 12, 2020

It’s been a warm and productive day, working on yard clean up. My neighbor took pity on me last week and spread weed killer on some of my overgrown flower beds. I’ve been trying to go green and deal with weeds by pulling them out by the roots. It was a losing battle, getting worse every time the weeds flowered, which was often. The killer did a great job and I’m loving the look of the big bed I managed to clear out today.

The previous owner was responsible for the beautiful landscaping and they were intolerant of any weed daring to grow in their yard. The first few years there were few weeds for me to deal with, I was reaping the benefit of their zealousness. I was away a number of summer weeks several years ago and that was the downfall. It’s been an uphill battle ever since.

This week has been very productive, if I can manage to fit in another one of two weeks  of the same it could be celebration time. Fingers crossed. If I can get it all clean I’ll share some pictures.

No time has been spent looking for books today, at least not until now.

I see one that’s a possibility. It’s a start anyway. This is another author new to me and I don’t know what to expect but it looks interesting.

My current read is dragging. I want to see how it ends but it is a little painful getting there.

Lost Down Deep

I think next I’ll try a book that seems a little weird with my first taste of it. I’ll give it a try and send it packing if it doesn’t work out for me. The collection of books barely started and not pursued is growing and needs weeding out again. I do hope this one turns into a good read though. I’ll let you know what happens.

Read & Enjoyed, and one bargain. July 10, 2020

This first one was a quick read. Several hours from beginning to end, which was nice as I was only taking a break from the book I was really reading. This story has depth and was fresh and engaging, my favorite parts. I just noticed (it seems I had forgotten) there were 252 pages. It went by so fast it doesn’t seem possible. It was good anyway.

This next one was a favorite read too. There was an unusual slant to the story and it was awesome.

I’m currently 2/3 of the way through reading this next book. I took a little break to read the first book (above) but will finish this one for sure. Things are not staying bargains for any great length of time it seems. This is the third one in a row to be back at full price.

One new book is a bargain at a $1.39. Things change so fast I figured it would be a good plan to snap it up. I’ve read one other book by this author and enjoyed her sense of humor. I look forward to seeing what this one will be like.
