Three of these authors were new to me. All were enjoyed and I hope to see each of them again soon. The last author, Laura Beers, I’ve read and enjoyed a few times now and look forward to more from her as well.

Currently, I’ve started a new book by an author encountered a couple of years ago.

The Iceberg: Fulton Ridge Series Book Two (picture below)

It’s about a couple of guys who have been friends for years, now they are in a successful and growing business together. Jerrod bought a house with a huge kitchen that would accommodate their catering needs. He’s decided he wants the company name changed to feature him. Curtis is not falling for it. They already have business cards and the van is set to be painted on Monday. It’s a done deal.

Jerrod, never one to give up, is trying to force the issue with a win or lose bet he thinks he can win. They had been next door to meet the neighbor who, though not necessarily unfriendly, was not entirely thrilled to meet two new guys while in her less than flattering gardening clothes. Jerrod declared he was going next door to borrow a cup of sugar they didn’t need and if he came back with it, his prize for winning the bet would be Curtis asking the yet-nameless neighbor out for a date.

It worked, he had his cup of sugar and her name. Now Jerrod insisted Curtis pay up. Feeling this whole thing was unfair to the neighbor he tried to get out of asking her out. Jerrod, ever adamant, insisted he either ask for a date or change the company name from Courtesy Catering to Jerrod Catering.

Jerrod was in for a big surprise… Curtis went next door.

The welcome Curtis received from the neighbor wasn’t cold and unfriendly, so he started with wanting to make up for all the frivolous interruptions they were putting her through. He then mentioned he had two tickets for the symphony on Saturday. Since Jerrod would be unable to attend, would she be interested in the extra ticket.

Jerrod truly didn’t expect to lose. When he found out he lost not once but twice – both the name and the symphony ticket – let’s just say, the taste of a backfired plan is not all that sweet.

I’ve haven’t read far enough yet to have a clue as to why Hannah has earned the title of Iceberg. I’m guessing there are secrets in her past that may account for trust issues.

These guys are so different. It looks like Jerrod mostly flies by the seat of his pants and it’s an ongoing challenge for level headed Curtis to keep them both out of trouble.

The three of them together could be very interesting.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

My current read is an author I’ve not encountered before and I have to say I’m enjoying her very much. I’m looking forward to seeing more from her.

Currently, I’m reading the newly released third book in the series I’m following. Christy enjoys placing her characters in very tight spots. This causes my anxiety levels go sky high and I have to remind myself the main character usually survives to the end. They aren’t often killed off within the first three chapters, so take a breath.

I’ve just finished book 2 in the series I was reading yesterday and it was every bit as good as book 1. No disappointment here. They are right when they say these stories have more twists and turns than a roller coaster!

1531 Entertainment had two more interesting suggestions, both of them with authors not in my library. I’ve read two chapters of the historical novel and I have to have it. I’ve looked at the author of the mystery and I need it as well.

show not tell – love it

I`ve started a new read and I love this awesome example of show-not-tell on page 6. I love it so much I have to share it right now, this very minute. It makes me smile big, it`s so cute. There is a lot of information packed into that sentence.

“What are we gonna do now?” Evangeline Jones’s cute four-year-old face smiled over at him from where she leaned into the engine.

Sosimo chuckled as her forehead furrowed, a grease mark smeared across it.

Evangeline is busy helping Sosimo work on her mother’s old clunker. So cute.

She doing such an awesome job she’s covered in grease, lucky for him Mom is pretty laid back about this whole scenario.

Reading has been high on the agenda during this covid shot recuperation time.

The first two are from a long-time favorite author. I find myself so totally immersed in the story that I lose sight of my real world. That is just the best experience ever.

This next one was a fun read. It wasn`t exactly light-hearted, it was more bumbling, as in choices not turning out exactly as expected. There is usually a price to pay.

This was a very good read.

There is one more but it needs more thought before sharing. Soon.

In the meantime, l`m going to read one of today`s downloads. I`ll let you know how that works out for me.

Last post I mentioned I was out for the count after my second covid shot. They said the side effects should clear up in 48 hours. Well, it’s been three days and cleared up hasn’t put in an appearance yet. I’m forcing myself out of bed, to see if up-and-moving will help things along. The energy levels are fading fast so I’ll keep this short.

A couple of bargain books by favorite authors were in the Amazon suggestion strip just now.

I’ve read book 1 in this series and I’m excited to read book 2.

Short and sweet September 04, 2021

Sorry I missed a few days posting. I had been doing so well, 80 days in a row. We’ll blame the break on covid. I had my second shot on Thursday and Friday was brutal. Slept all day, and staggered to the washroom like a drunken sailor. The walls did a good job of breaking my fall. This morning was much better and I actually ate a piece of toast. My joy at feeling better is long gone, whatever energy I had earlier is all used up. Hence the short post.

I missed my birthday party yesterday, thanks covid shot. I share a birthday, sort of, with my grandson. His was yesterday. Mine is today. I’m sad because the “cake” looked awesome, I missed being with the people too, honest.

Today, I spent the day lounging around, doing what I love. Reading. The best thing about this book – I would give it 5 stars, no question.
