I’ve noticed the visits someone has been making to the Romance and Mystery pages where I keep a list of all the books mentioned in these blog posts. It’s meant to be a resource, if you are in need of suggestions. If this is you, visiting …… thank you! I was hoping the pages would be used that way.
I was updating the lists the other day, and was looking through them, out of curiosity, to see if the lists looked anything like what my memory said they would. I was surprised to see that authors foremost in my mind didn’t appear as often as expected. I guess they are so big in my mind, not because of the number of books, but because the impression of a single book was so huge.
It was a surprise to see how few times some of my most favorite authors show up. I’m sad about this because this will give a wrong impression, or maybe no impression, and you will miss out on some great suggestions. I have thought about including books I have read, just not recently, which would rectify this situation. I guess now that I am into my second year of doing this, recently read doesn’t really apply so much anymore anyway. Food for thought. I’ll let you know if I decide to do it.
The reason I haven’t been reading my favorite authors, or the reason there may only be one book from an author, is because I am always on the look out for new authors and new slants for stories. With this focus in mind, I read a book and move on. Sometimes I will stop and read a whole series but if I do that too many times I will never get through the list of books I have downloaded. I won’t tell you that I currently have over 660 on my Kindle. I remove them after I add them to the blog, to keep the numbers at a manageable level, but it still keeps getting away on me.
I have been forced to be more selective about the choices I make but there are just so many interesting books appearing in my feed looking for attention.
There were seven more waiting to be downloaded this morning and this was one of them
The Lacemaker – Laura Frantz …. I haven’t read this one yet but have already started and it looks interesting. It’s about the American revolution and Lady Elizabeth Liberty Lawson. I think I have read books about her part in the war and the contribution she made inspite of the threat of being branded a spy. I’m interested in reading this one because I am intrigued with this author and would like to check her out, to see if she lives up to the recommendations. If it shows up in the list you will know I liked it.
This one I have read, the first book anyway, the other two books are on hold for now but I still recommend the collection, as I’ve read a lot of Colleen Coble, with appreciation, over the years.
The Mercy Falls Collection – The Light Keeper’s Daughter book 1 – Colleen Coble…. Addie Sullivan’s life is turned upside down when a stranger tells her she is not who she thinks she is, and the woman she calls mother, is not. Many secrets swirl around her presence in the lighthouse. To give them time to discover where the true danger lies the stranger suggests she take the position of governess in the household of her birth.
How is your list of books coming along?
Reading choices are unique to all of us. Different strokes for different folks. Keep looking for treasures, they are out there, I promise you.
Happy reading!!
A Mia Quinn Mystery – A Matter of Trust book 1 – Lis Wiehl ….. Mia and her friend are chatting, while searching their respective basements for garage sale items, when she hears a pop and her friend drops the phone. Her friend has been murdered and Mia’s boss, the Crown Prosecutor, wants her to team up with a homicide detective to figure out who did this. Mia and the detective have history, they worked a case that did not go well because of his blunder, he is the last person she wants to work with. There is already enough pressure in her life, with her husband’s recent fatal accident, and a teenage son struggling to adjust to their new reality. The trouble is, she can’t walk away from the search for her best friends murderer.
A Mia Quinn Mystery – A Deadly Business book 2 – Lis Wiehl ….. A potentially deadly attack in the court room, when the 22 year old defendant lunged at her with a razor blade, emphasises the inherent danger in her occupation, and Mia worries about her kids. The last thing she wants is to bring danger home with her. It may already be to late to stop it. As more secrets about his life come to light, her husband’s accident may not have been an accident. Charlie, the homicide detective Mia works with, has had suspicions, and there is evidence to back them up. The thing is, no one is interested in reopening the case. They are on their own. And their efforts have been noticed, and the noticers are not happy.
A Mia Quinn Mystery – Lethal Beauty book 3 – Lis Wiehl ….. It should have been an open and shut murder case but nothing went as it should have. A young Chinese prostitute is stabbed to death by her rich American client and his high powered lawyer gets him off. There seems to be double standards and prejudice working against justice being done. Missing witnesses, more killings, and attacks on her family point to a criminal involvement on a deep level.
Miracle at the Higher Grounds Café – Max Lucado …. Chelsea has the responsibility of a café inherited unexpectedly from her mother. It seemed like this would be a blessing, a good way to start life on her own after a separation from a cheating husband. Things are often not what we expect though. It’s a good thing she has help in ways she couldn’t predict, she will need it.
Promise for Tomorrow Series – Friends & Enemies book 1 – Terri Wangard …. Paul has always dreamed of flying, joining the Air Force seemed like a good way to achieve it. Rachael, his wife and childhood sweetheart, is not happy to see him heading off to war, a war they both have mixed emotions about because of Rachael’s best friend Heidi. In America for high school and now back in her German homeland, it has been a number of years since they’ve seen each other but they haven’t forgotten. With every mission, Paul thinks of Rachael’s friend and her family, and prays their bombs will miss them.

Autistic British Detective Jonathan Roper – I Can See You book 2 – Michael Leese
Holiday Inc. Series – Noelle’s Golden Christmas book 1 – Tamie Dearen
Cornhusker Dreams – Canteen Dreams book 1- Cara Putman
Hardman Holidays – The Christmas Bargain book 1 – Shanna Hatfield
Dakota Moons Series – Valley of the Shadow book 1 – Stephanie Grace Whitson …. Genevieve, the daughter of Good Song Woman and a French trader, is distressed when her father sends her to live with missionaries, to be educated the way her mother wanted for her. When a young warrior is found gravely wounded and left in their barn, Gen begins to lose her heart. Their love is just starting to blossom when the war of 1862 breaks out dragging them both into the valley of the shadow of death.
The Gondola Maker – Laura Morelli …. This was my next favorite book this week. It’s set in 16th century Venice and is about a family of traditional gondola makers. Luca figures his father has his life mapped out for him in the family business until a disagreement turns tragic and the course of his life is drastically changed. This was a gripping tale hard to put down.
Refuge on Crescent Hill – Melanie Dobson … another novel based in history. The mansion has been in the family for 150 years and there are rumors of ghosts, underground railways, and buried treasure. Camden returns determined to see her grandmother only to find she has passed away. Unsettling things keep happening, and it seems other people are trying to claim what is hers. This was a page turner.
