We had lift off. I’m excited and relieved all at the same time. We can never be sure things will go well until the door closes and the plane starts to move. It was comforting to have a text saying we are on board.

My son and the rest of his family are on their way back home to Canada. So looking forward to seeing them. It’s been way too long, mostly because of all the restrictions of the last two years. Mind you it will be awhile until we actually get to see them. Canada is big and they are not landing anywhere near me.

In the meantime one of my daughter’s sons will be at a birthday party near me and he asked his mom if he could stay overnight with me. How cool is that for a young teen? The rest of his family will be here Sunday to install my new kitchen tap, replacing the leaky one. It will be a treat to have hot water in that sink again.

My current read is very different, that’s for sure. Different centuries involved. I’m still trying to figure out where she’s going with this.

Maybe I’ll have time for more tomorrow. Maybe not though with a grandson to enjoy.

No new books February 02, 2022

Another day with no new books. I did search a little but … it was a decidedly unfruitful experience. We won’t lose heart though because the drought will not last forever. It never does, and I’m grateful. I begin to experience withdrawal symptoms if it lasts too long.

Must share. I love the shadows on the snow when the sun shines so brilliantly, What a change over stormy yesterday. The snow still clings to the house, around the windows.

A good portion of the big mound on the deck is from the snow sliding off the roof. In my early years here I would shovel it off the deck onto the lawn, that idea didn’t last too long. It’s been years.

Yesterday, I mentioned I was currently reading book one of a four book collection. Well, I finished that and have moved on to book two. I think I’m past the halfway point by now. I’m liking it, although there are parts of it that remind me of book 1. Same lady, different name and circumstances, sort of. It is still worth reading.

LPC Free Books has FREE suggestions for us. This first one is an author I’ve not read but in 2017 I did download a grammar book she’s written. I found it very helpful. Now I’m looking forward to this book.

Last week I mentioned a book written by a psychotherapist interviewed on a podcast I came across. I think I shared it here, I need to check that out to be sure. Anyway, I’m reading her book and it is like taking medicine mixed with delicious honey. The authors aim was to provide help to those of us who might not be inclined (for whatever reason) to visit a therapist but dish it up as a story to make sure we would read it. I have to say she is doing a masterful job. I’m almost finished the first third of the book and it is not easy to put down.

Last week I shared a new book written by a member of our monthly writer’s group. I’m going to share it again along with the new book of a second member of our group. I do own both books and haven’t gotten to them yet but I’m excited about the prospect. We have been exposed regularly to the excellent writings of these gentlemen and they are well worth reading.

They have different styles, unique imaginations and they leave us wanting more.

It’s another cool day here with an extreme cold warning. That usually means there will be a hefty wind chill that will cut right through you. I hear it’s supposed to warm up a bit and bless us with more snow. In this part of the country we don’t complain about snow, the winter sports enthusiasts love it. Besides it’s dry and fine and doesn’t accumulate all that much. It will never reach the top of the doorways like it can with wet snow.

Staying inside where it’s warm, it won’t be a boring weekend with awesome books to read.

A book and a podcast January 01, 2021

I want to remember this podcast and this post will help with that. My favorite aspect of this discussion was the encouragement we are given to think outside the box, Erwin McManus stresses the importance of exercising this ability.

The second item on the agenda for this post is an introduction a WWII Novel by one of the writers in our monthly critique group. I have not read it but I have enjoyed Robert’s writing and expect this story will not disappoint.

1944. American bomber pilot, Jack Swaggart, has led his squadron countless times into hostile German territory, hit the assigned target, and returned to base none the worse for wear.

Eventually, Jack’s luck runs out. With his B-26 Marauder heavily damaged by flak, Jack is forced to ditch his crippled airplane in the German countryside.

Separated from his crew, Jack trusts an unlikely ally, Hilde Augsburg, a plucky young woman, a decision which catapults them into an adventure neither could have envisioned. Coincidentally, they spot a new type of German warplane in flight–a design unlike anything they’ve ever seen before.

In that moment, Jack realizes that the Nazis have developed a formidable new bomber, one that could dramatically alter the course of the war. In the blink of an eye, Jack’s mission shifts from survival to thwarting the Germans, just when the Allies are on the verge of triumph.

Carey picks titles that must be relevant to the bulk of his audience but generally, I find the actual interview always covers more ground than the title suggests. This podcast is no exception. I found the discussion to be challenging and thought provoking. It needs more than one viewing for a person to get the most out of it.
