Bargain books June 22, 2021

Today was a browsing day, looking for good bargains. One of the books in the collection I’m reading inspired me to search by author this time. It was a good choice, I found something new.

Not Until Forever: A Christian Romance (Hope Springs Book 1)

Amazon quote:

Sophie thinks she knows what she wants. Until she returns to the one place she said she’d never go again. And finds the one man she thought she’d left behind forever.

As she focuses on her career, Sophie doesn’t let herself think about what she gave up when she declined Spencer’s proposal five years ago. So when she’s called home to say goodbye to her dying grandmother, she goes out of her way to avoid seeing him. Of course, that means he’s the first person she runs into. Much as she fights against it, being near him stirs up old feelings and makes her question old decisions.

Leaving college to help on the family orchard cost Spencer the woman he loved. But he couldn’t turn his back on his family. Now that Sophie’s back in town, Spencer’s determined to protect his heart. Only he senses something new in Sophie—something that makes him think maybe they could have a second chance. But when his family needs him again, he feels like he’s repeating the past. Only this time, he’s not sure what choice he should make.

Are the heartaches of the past too much to overcome? Or could God be giving them a second chance at forever?

This is the collection where I encountered today’s first author. The collection is still a bargain and has a nice selection of great novels. As usual, I liked some stories better than others but overall everything was worth the read. Three more to go and I’m done.

Written in Ink

Amazon quote:

Everything he has built his life and future on has been torn away.

Cash McCall has loved Dr. Renee Dawson for half his life. Although they’ve talked about a future together, she has never believed it was the right time for them to get engaged. Now she has ended their relationship, and he has no idea why.

Everything Renee worked so hard for is in jeopardy. One agonizing decision has changed everything, and she has been forced to shatter the heart of the man she loves. And her own.

The extremist militant group The Arm is on a mission. Its leader doesn’t care how many innocent lives are lost in the pursuit of the group’s end goal, and Renee has seen something she was not supposed to see.

If Cash can’t get to her in time, Renee could end up in the crosshairs of the terrorists, and he may lose her—and any chance at the life he’d always envisioned—forever.

I was hoping today would have some new books for us and I have to say the day didn’t disappoint.

Free books June 21, 2021

We are off to a good start. The first email I looked at has a nice suggestion for us. FREE from BookBub, this author is on my favorites list.

Just Look Up

Amazon quote:

After tirelessly climbing the ranks of her Chicago-based interior design firm, Lane Kelley is about to land her dream promotion when devastating news about her brother draws her back home—a quaint tourist town full of memories she’d just as soon forget. With her cell phone and laptop always within reach, Lane aims to check on her brother while staying focused on work—something her eclectic family doesn’t understand.

Ryan Brooks never expected to settle down in Harbor Pointe, Michigan, but after his final tour of duty, it was the only place that felt like home. Now knee-deep in a renovation project that could boost tourism for the struggling town, he is thrilled to see Lane, the girl he secretly once loved, even if the circumstances of her homecoming aren’t ideal.

Their reunion gets off to a rocky start, however, when Ryan can’t find a trace of the girl he once knew in the woman she is today. As he slowly chips away at the walls Lane has built, secrets from his past collide with a terrible truth even he is reluctant to believe. Facing a crossroads that could define his future with Lane and jeopardize his relationship with the surrogate family he’s found in the Kelleys, Ryan hopes Lane can see that maybe what really matters has been right in front of her all along—if only she’d just look up.

LPC Books has several FREE suggestions. The first one is an author we’ve seen twice already this year and I’m looking forward to one more.

The Gathering Storm: The truth can set you free. It can also kill you. (When Darkness Falls Book 1)

Amazon quote:

After his departure, Stephanie discovers the diamond necklace she borrowed from her aunt is missing. Racing through a raging thunderstorm, Stephanie drives to the lodge to reclaim the stolen item.

But when she arrives, Stephanie finds her father dead, her aunt’s diamond necklace gone, and a pair of handcuffs fitted just for her. Stephanie’s claims of innocence fail to sway the local sheriff, who produces several pieces of evidence linking her to the murder. With a shaky alibi and a vindictive stepmother, Stephanie turns to a lodge employee for help. But will Brad Wilson’s assistance lead Stephanie to the real killer or prove to be her undoing? Like a gathering storm on a warm summer evening, Stephanie’s world darkens until she’s forced to turn to the one true source of knowledge. But what she learns about her father, family, and her own inner demons are more horrifying than the lies she’s come to believe.

Bargain books Part Two June 18, 2021

As promised, three more interesting looking books, all from the author featured in the previous post. I’m more excited about these three as I’ve not yet been exposed to the two series they are part of.

I’ll start with the one that attracted me the most. The story line seemed to promise a depth I find attractive.

A Family for Easter: A Fresh-Start Family Romance (Rescue River Book 6)

Amazon quote:

Too different to fall in love?In Rescue River, anything can happen…

When wealthy single mom Fiona Farmingham rents her carriage house to widowed Eduardo Delgado, it’s purely in friendship. Insecure over her late husband’s betrayal, Fiona hides her attraction to the humble landscaper.

Between them they have six children, two dogs—and a world of differences. But with half a dozen little matchmakers involved, can they find the courage to reach for happiness once more?

************************

The Soldier and the Single Mom: A Fresh-Start Family Romance (Rescue River Book 4)

Amazon quote:

When Buck Armstrong rescues Gina Patterson and her baby from a dark country road outside town, he intends to keep his distance. Gina and little Bobby remind the handsome veteran too much of all he’s lost. The vulnerable single mom seems equally wary of getting involved. But things change once Gina and her son settle into his sister’s boardinghouse.

Being with Gina and Bobby makes Buck question his plans to leave town for a fresh start. Suddenly he has dreams of forging a new family, even though it will mean risking his heart. But can he escape his past for a chance at a happy future?

*************************

The Soldier’s Redemption: A Fresh-Start Family Romance (Redemption Ranch Book 2)

Amazon quote:

Blaming himself for the accident that claimed his wife and son, ranch manager Finn Gallagher vows he’ll never remarry. Yet he’s drawn to his new rescue-dog caretaker, Kayla White, and her little boy.

The single mother’s running from something in her past. And as he begins wishing the little family could be his, Finn must convince her to trust him with her secret.

*************************

I haven’t decided how many of these I will go for but they are all under consideration.

If anything more wonderful shows up today I’ll let you know, for sure.

Happy Reading part two!

Bargain Romance books June 18, 2021

It all started out with one suggestion from 1531 Entertainment. A five book collection. One thing led to another and I discovered there were three more good looking bargains in the suggestion strip. First, the boxed set.

The Sacred Bond Series Boxed Set (Christian Romance)

Amazon quote:

Heartwarming inspirational romance celebrating heroic men with strong values and protective instincts. Five former delinquents grow up to become heroes due to a bond they made as teenagers.

A Christmas Bond
War hero John Moretti sees the delinquent boys he mentors as the sons he never had, and he wants to give them every opportunity to reform. Crime victim Annie Bauer views them as dangerous threats to her elderly grandma, who lives next door to the boys’ residential school.

When the Baby Jesus is stolen from Grandma’s yard nativity scene, the boys’ potential involvement may send them straight to hard-core juvie, and break the fragile connection that’s building between Annie and John. Until the so-called delinquents join together to make a sacred bond…

His Baby Bond
Poor-but-proud Kendra Forrester doesn’t need an arrogant millionaire to tell her how to raise her sister’s baby. But when handsome Zeke King arrives at her Colorado cabin demanding custody of his brother’s child, strategy dictates that she let him stick around.

Battling mountain weather and the baby’s illness brings these two opposites together, but their own insecurities, their dead siblings’ secrets, and a jealous former boyfriend threaten their tentative bond.

Only the Lord and the Sacred Bond Brotherhood can help Kendra and Zeke form a family for their baby.

The Bride’s Broken Bond
As the wedding music starts playing, poor little rich girl Hope DeMille learns that her husband-to-be loves someone else, but her domineering, high-society father won’t let her back out of the expensive wedding he’s funded. Enter Rock Anderson, a former inner-city kid mentored by Hope’s parents, who’s always wanted Hope.

After helping Hope escape, Rock gets her a job at his urban mission. But when Hope’s powerful father seeks revenge and one of the inner-city kids goes missing, it’ll take the best efforts of the Sacred Bond brotherhood to help this opposite-sides-of-the-tracks couple overcome their differences and commit to love.

Her Reunion Bond

Ever since she lost her unborn child and the use of her leg in an accident, Wendy Smith has given up on romance and focused on kids—her own foster kids, and those she teaches.

Daniel Masterson, Wendy’s high school boyfriend, has been earning money hand-over-fist in the entertainment industry, but his wife’s death showed him how shallow his life is—especially now that he’s raising his daughter alone. With the encouragement of his Sacred Bond brothers, Daniel returns to Pittsburgh to do a fund-raising campaign for Wendy’s school, and he rents a house adjacent to Wendy’s.

Wendy and Daniel’s attraction reignites. But Wendy’s never told him the truth about the baby she lost…

The Doctor’s Bond
Bad Boone McDermitt is back in Pleasant Haven, Florida to help his troubled nephews … not to romance the preacher’s daughter! But the handsome doctor sees a kindred spirit in restless, talented Abby Smith.

The problem is, Boone doesn’t think he’s good enough for Abby, and a few small-minded church people agree. As for Abby, she must choose between the clean-cut minister her dad’s chosen for her and the dangerous, passionate freedom Boone represents. It’ll take an assist from the Sacred Bond brothers to teach Boone and Abby that sometimes, the biggest risk is in not following your heart.

The Wedding Bond
When café owner Kaylee Kinney vows to marry within a year, she’s picturing a nice, peaceful life with a nice, peaceful husband. Enter Phelan O’Donnell: army ranger, bad boy, and Kaylee’s high school ex. What Kaylee doesn’t know, when she enters into a “practice” relationship with Phelan, is that he’s harboring a secret that could rip her family apart. Their chemistry is explosive and their values are finally in sync. Their trial run just might turn into an actual marriage. But can they withstand a shocking revelation about their own history without breaking each others’ hearts?

************************

Hmmm.

By the looks of the box cover there are five books in this set but the synopsis includes six. It’s a good deal if there truly are six.

*********

In other news: there is going to be a Part Two with today’s extra bargains.

I decided three more on top of the six in this set is just too much for one post.

Also, they are from two other series and it seems to me that they deserve their own post anyway.

*********

Enjoy this set. I’ve read & enjoyed two or three of these books already plus there is a closely related series and I’ve enjoyed some of it as well.

Happy Reading!

There’s more – bargain books June 17th

Well; that was a little premature, hitting publish before I checked out Davis Bunn’s email alerting us to new books he has coming out. Or recently out.

The bargain is book 4 in the Miramar Bay series, which I am following. This is good news to me.

Tranquility Falls (Miramar Bay Book 4)

Amazon quote:

When the darkness seems too hard to bear, there’s only one thing left to do.

Six years ago, Daniel was a Los Angeles financial analyst who was too handsome for his own good. Too smart for his anchor job on the nightly news. And too enamored with the heady addictions of the high life. That man died in a tragic accident with his fiancée. With grief and guilt battling for control, Daniel moved to the quiet California seaside town of Miramar Bay with his best friend—a rescue Labradoodle who still sees him through rough times. Daniel’s a different man now. Clean, sober, and taking things one day at a time with no commitments to anyone except himself. And just as his solitude begins to chafe, two souls in need of fresh starts unexpectedly enter Daniel’s life . . .
Realize that it’s time to wake up.

Daniel’s self-centered sister has dissolved several longtime relationships. Theirs included. The latest? Her restless teenage daughter, Nicole, whom she’s dropped off in Miramar Bay without a backward glance. For Nicole, who’s never felt at home in the world, it only confirms the disconnect she’s always had with her mother. Now, left with an uncle she barely knows, Nicole is more adrift than ever. Yet to Daniel’s surprise, playing surrogate father is forging a bond that he needs, too. More difficult for Daniel is the possibility of romance with lovely and fragile Stella Dalley. Struggling with a trauma of her own, the single mother is as cautious about love as Daniel is—no matter how healing it could be. But for Daniel, Stella, and Nicole there’s still hope for a tomorrow they can call their own. All they have do is to learn to trust in each other, and in themselves.

***************************

Book 5 in this series is published but it is full price, I’m sure it will come up as a bargain one day in the not too distant future.

Davis also has a new book coming out and it is on Pre-order.

I’ll leave you with their covers.

Happy Reading

1531 Entertainment has an interesting suggestion this morning.

Lethal Intent

Amazon quote:

If they expected silence, they hired the wrong woman.

Caroline Bragg’s life has never been better. She and Brandon Lancaster are taking their relationship to the next level, and she has a new dream job as legal counsel for Praecursoria—a research lab that is making waves with its cutting-edge genetic therapies. The company’s leukemia treatments even promise to save desperately sick kids—kids like eleven-year-old Bethany, a critically ill foster child at Brandon’s foster home.

When Caroline’s enthusiastic boss wants to enroll Bethany in experimental trials prematurely, Caroline objects, putting her at odds with her colleagues. They claim the only goal at Praecursoria is to save lives. But does someone have another agenda?

Brandon faces his own crisis. As laws governing foster homes shift, he’s on the brink of losing the group home he’s worked so hard to build. When Caroline learns he’s a Praecursoria investor, it becomes legally impossible to confide in him. Will the secrets she keeps become a wedge that separates them forever? And can she save Bethany from the very treatments designed to heal her?

***********************

That’s all I’ve got for the moment but you never know when more will show up.

In the meantime.

Happy Reading.

Read and Enjoyed June 16, 2021

My favorite read so far this week.

I liked everything about this book. The characters, their personalities and interactions. The freshness of the story line, The way it moved along at a steady pace. Details and secrets doled out in layers.

The other thing I liked about it was the handling of the theme/cause which was part of the story structure.

Sometimes, even often times, a particular cause would hijack the story. The reader would be treated to an ongoing education about the subject of the day, painfully aware of the not-so-hidden agenda and the way it dominated.

In this case some educating was involved but it was a seamless part of the story. Creating not even a ripple in the reading experience.

I gave this one of my rare five-stars.

See Me : A sweet, faith-filled fake engagement romance

Fairytale romances can’t happen in real life. Or can they?

It’s love at first sight when reclusive inventor Jesse Buckley meets unemployed music teacher Bronte, moonlighting as a take-out delivery driver. Okay, so splattering guacamole and sour cream over them both wasn’t the best way to impress the woman he hopes to make his wife, but from here on the only way is up, right? Still, maybe offering her a job as his chauffeur and personal assistant wasn’t one of his best ideas.

It means he’ll see her almost every day, sure. It also means, as one of his employees, she’s out-of-bounds. Besides, though he’s had to admit to his failing eyesight, he hasn’t told her yet that one day he’ll become completely blind. And he’s managed to keep the little fact he’s one of the wealthy owners of the business a secret, letting her believe he’s just another staff member.

Desperate to untangle the mess a con man left her life and her finances in, Bronte gratefully said yes to the job Jesse offered her. Spending most of her time with a sweet, kind, handsome guy she could easily fall head-over-heels for wasn’t supposed to be part of the deal. After all, the last man she thought loved her stole everything she had. Her home, her inheritance, her music, her faith, and most of all, her trust in her own judgment. A new love isn’t on her wish list, especially when she can’t shake the feeling Jesse’s hiding something from her.

What neither counted on was Jesse’s ailing grandmother and her determination to see him settled with the right woman. First she beguiles them into a fake engagement neither will admit they want to make real. Then she maneuvers them into accompanying her on a trip to Chapel Cove to visit his former PA, Nai. Could it be, the spring vacation in a small Oregon seaside town will bring love, renewed faith, and God’s sweet healing for them all?

******************************

This is still a bargain if you are interested.

******************************

The newest addition to the family today. She is so cute both grandma’s are jealous of the new dad. We want one too.

We are not wanting enough to actually do it, but it sure is tempting.

We’ll go over there, love on her and then go on home. Just like grandmas do with the rest of grandkids. 🙂

Apparently training is starting already.

Remember Home: A Second Chance Military Romance (Healing Hearts)

Amazon quote:

Dear John…
For teacher Lily Hogan, those words would come to mean so much. She knew that giving back to the community brought joy into people’s lives. When her fourth-grade class writes letters to the military overseas in Afghanistan, she takes up her own pen and leads her students by example – writing a letter to an unknown soldier.

CPO John Griffin and his K-9 dog, Radar, have been through so much together over the last several years. Sniffing out bombs, searching the hills and mentoring his team, he feels so alone and unsure of his future- until a letter reminds him that there’s more to life in this world he’s protecting. Simple words, a kind gesture and feeling that he isn’t forgotten out there in the desert, compels him to write back. Before long, he finds himself looking forward to the care packages and letters from his pen-pal halfway across the world.

With every letter and every word, they begin to develop a friendship and wonder what the other person is truly like? Major life changes are scary enough as it is – but is it possible to fall in love with someone before you’ve even laid eyes upon them? Can the magic of the season bring the sweetest gift of all?

***************************

I’m currently reading & enjoying a newly released book and it is still a bargain.

Autumn MacArthur has a new release coming out in December and it’s offered as a bargain on pre-order.

The Real Thing: A sweet & clean opposites-attract disabled hero romance in Scotland (The Macleans Book 4)

Amazon quote:

He’s an embittered cynic. She’s a perpetually cheerful Pollyanna. They both need to learn what trusting God really means.

Disabled since birth, bullied as a child, Edinburgh author Brodie Maclean has no faith in God, or in human nature. He learned young that his best weapons are his sharp tongue and his biting honesty, and he doesn’t hesitate to use them.

When he’s forced to employ Flynn Ferguson as his housekeeper, it’s instant dislike. She’s too cheerful, she’s too loud, she’s too everything. Including distracting. How is he supposed to write with her around?

Even always-look-on-the-bright-side Flynn finds it hard to be glad about her grouchy boss, apart from the little fact the generous salary he pays means she won’t be evicted. As soon as she can (“Tomorrow, please Lord?”), she’ll quit.
Neither intends to deceive the other, but only when they meet online, safe behind names that aren’t their names and photos that aren’t their photos, are they able to be their real selves and fall in love. Can they recognize the truth behind their false impressions before it’s too late?

Three Little Things

Amazon quote:

“A well-drawn cast of supporting characters creates a strong sense of community, and colorful colloquialisms (“whip-thin and homely as a cow pie”) add flavor. Lovers of G-rated historical romance will be charmed by the earnest, emotionally vulnernable connection between these young lovers.” – Publisher’s Weekly

One forbidden love. Two broken hearts. Three little things.

Hattie Waltz should forget the troubled neighbor leaving for boot camp in 1917. He forgot about her ages ago. It had always been the Waltzs verses the Kregers, his family pitted against hers. When she hands him a farewell gift, a chemistry lesson unfolds. The good kind.

Arno Kreger can’t leave Iowa or his old man fast enough. He’s eager to prove his worth on the battlefield and stop blaming himself for his brother’s death. Before entering the train, he bumps into Hattie. He’s loved her forever, always from the sidelines, because nobody crosses Hattie’s pa.

One innocent letter soon morphs into many. Arno and Hattie share three little secrets in each letter and grow closer together. But he’s on his way to a war across the ocean, and she’s still in her father’s house. Their newfound love will need to survive dangers on both fronts.

There is also a bargain book suggestion.

Coming of Winter (A Jeremy Winter Thriller Book 1

Amazon quote:

Catherine Mae Blackston is missing. She is not the first.

While investigating Blackston’s recent activities, FBI Agent Jeremy Winter stumbles upon a string of missing persons within state parks. Unable to convince his boss that Blackston’s disappearance is anything other than a lost hiker, Winter joins forces with a local police officer to continue the search.

As the clues mount, a dark figure from Jeremy’s past emerges with an ultimatum — one that could force him out of the Bureau. Afraid that his girlfriend, fellow agent Maggie Keeley, will be dragged into a high-stakes political game, he delays his decision. But as the tally of missing persons increases, Winter closes in on the unlikeliest of suspects.

The bodies are out there.

He just has to find them before his past catches up with him.

One more bargain.

A Song for Her Enemies: A Novel

Amazon quote:

She has the voice of an angel. But the devil is listening.

After Nazi soldiers close the opera and destroy Tamar Kaplan’s dream of becoming a professional singer, she joins the Dutch Resistance, her fair coloring concealing her Jewish heritage. Tamar partners with Dr. Daniel Feldman, and they risk their lives to help escaping refugees. When they are forced to flee themselves, violinist Neelie Visser takes them into hiding.

Tamar’s love for Daniel flowers in hardship, but she struggles with the paradox that a loving God would allow the atrocities around her. When Tamar resists the advances of a Third Reich officer, he exacts his revenge by betraying the secrets hidden behind the walls of Neelie’s house. From a prison hospital to a Nazi celebration to a concentration camp, will the three of them survive to tell the world the secrets behind barbed wire?

A Song for Her Enemies is the story of a talented young opera singer and the bittersweet love that grows amid the tyranny and fear of World War II. Set against the backdrop of neighbors willing to risk their lives in the German-occupied, war-torn Netherlands, A Song for Her Enemies is an inspiring and beautiful novel celebrating the resilience of the human spirit and the determination of Christians in the face of persecution. It is a novel for everyone seeking to understand the pain of the past and be inspired to embrace hope for the future.

OK, I’m done now.

I’m currently finishing a book that is not a favorite and I’ve not decided what is next. I suspect it will be one of these new ones.

Happy Reading!

Bargain books part two June 11, 2021

There were indeed, more interesting book suggestions today. This first one suggested by 1531 Entertainment is from an author I’ve enjoyed for many years. On top of that, her subject is dear to my heart. I have a houseful of unfinished craft projects dating back decades. Some from my twenties have survived as mementos, memories of special days gone by.

One such craft was learned from a beloved landlady who loved to share and teach. Another craft was learned as creative way to find a purpose for stacks of computer cards used for billing at the company I worked for. They were punched so the computer could read them. They were long and narrow, I folded them to make a point on one end, glued them in layers of leaves around a cardboard circle. Spray painted them sparkly gold with added decorations in the middle and voila, we had Christmas wreaths.

I went on from there to use yarn, fabric, acrylic paint, embroidery floss, and many more fad-ish things gong around. Many people keep photo albums, I keep unfinished projects along with all of the material and equipment needed to complete them. I think, subconsciously, I have this idea that we don’t have to say goodbye as long as there is still more to be done. I like keeping my friends close for a long time.

I can’t help it, I was born this way! A little crazy.

So, getting back to books…

Half Finished: A Novel

Amazon quote:

In bestselling author Lauraine Snelling’s new novel, a group of women realize that life is full of half-finished relationships and projects. However, they discover that the outcome is not as important as the journey.

Recognizing how common it is for crafters to start many projects and finish few, a group of women join together to form a guild-Unfinished Projects Anonymous-to keep each other on track and accountable. Three of the friends are tasked with the job of home visits for their guild. Laughingly called “the Cartel,” they snoop around craft rooms and knitting baskets to report on progress for the members. They even expand their mission to include checking on half-trained dogs and half-weeded gardens.

As life unexpectedly changes for one of the members, this ensemble of women in bestselling author Lauraine Snelling’s new novel discovers that much of life is half-finished-projects, friendships, the raising of children, even our very relationship with the Lord. And that may be perfectly fine.

I’m currently reading and enjoying the latest book in a series I’ve been closely following.

Gabe: a clean romantic suspense novel (Lantern Beach Blackout: The New Recruits Book 4)

When former Navy SEAL and current Blackout operative Gabe Michaels is almost killed in a hit-and-run, the aftermath completely upends his life. He’s no longer safe—and he’s not the only one.

Dr. Autumn Spenser came to Lantern Beach to start fresh. But while treating Gabe after his accident, she senses there’s more to what happened to him than meets the eye. When she digs deeper into his past, she never expects to be drawn into a deadly dilemma.

Gabe has been infatuated with the pretty doctor since the day they met. Now, can he keep her from harm? Could someone out of his league ever return his feelings or will her past hurts keep them apart?
