Alice’s Journey West Finding Her Way

Finding Her Way

Amazon quote:

The American Civil war has torn Alice Cleary’s family apart, and cast the children amongst what friends and relations would have them. And though Alice appreciates the home she and her younger brother, Will, have had with her aunt and uncle, when they pressure her to marry an older man for their benefit, she flees to the sanctuary of the church. There, sister Agnes helps to set Alice’s feet on a path that will lead her across the country. In Kansas, Will finds a place on their sister Louisa’s farm, but times are hard and as much as she craves the security of her own people, there is no place for Alice. Her journey lies onward, in the wilds of New Mexico.

After navigating risk and peril, Alice comes into her own. She knows her own mind – and her own heart. But when it is broken, will Alice have the strength and courage to remain true to herself?

BookBub also has a FREE suggestion. This is book one in a series. It was offered awhile back in a three book collection, I remember reading it then and liking it. A good read.

On His Bended Knee: The Brides of Purple Heart Ranch book 1

On His Bended Knee

To save his dream, Dylan and his men will have to tie the knot—but can a man with such deep scars inside and out believe in love again?

Now, she and her gang of special-needs dogs are in trouble. Fate puts her in Dylan’s path with a proposal that seems too good to be true—but can her heart bear a loveless marriage of convenience?
Dylan yearns to reach out for Maggie’s healing touch, but he keeps his distance, convinced his wounds are too deep for her embrace. Maggie sees past Dylan’s injuries, but if she fails to capture his heart they both could lose it all: her beloved animals, his ranch, and each other.

Book collections at bargain prices, good reads – all of them

Some of my read and enjoyed collections are still at bargain prices. An all seasons assortment with a little Christmas thrown in for good measure. I figured we could use a few more book choices, what with the sparse few days we’ve had lately. Well done, high quality reads definitely worth spending the time.

An Amazon suggestion that showed up while I was searching for something else. A FREE book that also appeared in my 2016 reading lineup. I can still remember the great experience with this story.

Moving On

Moving On

Amazon quote\;

Two completely different personalities must learn to get along and play nice in order to survive a will that will change their lives.

Twenty years ago, Tyler Hayes was ripped from his childhood home. Right after a horrific accident took his parents’ lives, Tyler’s grandfather cast him out of the mansion and sent him away.

Now his grandfather has passed away and he can finally come home. However, even in death, Tyler’s grandfather has betrayed him, leaving the mansion to a woman he’s never met.

Even though Kate Mitchell has never met Tyler, she knows all about the accident that changed the Hayes family. What she doesn’t know is how she will be caught in a twenty-year estrangement between two generations and an inheritance tussle she wants no part of.

Kate has a promise to fulfill, but how will she do that when Tyler wants nothing to do with her?

An interesting historical romance bargain book showed up next ($1.23). This book is new to me and I expect the author is too. I’m looking forward to checking it out, the synopsis sounds intriguing.

His Stubborn Sweet Bride

His Stubborn Sweet Bride

Amazon quote:

When Englishman Nate Trowbridge inherits his uncle’s American ranch, he and his sister Leonie travel to Colorado. Nate plans to become a gentleman rancher and to marry Emmaline Chiswick, the daughter of family friends in Denver.

But Nate’s orderly world is turned upside down when his proposal letter to Emmaline is accidentally delivered to the wrong woman. When a redheaded adventuress arrives on his doorstep, demanding that he honor his offer of marriage, Nate is outraged at her nerve but also attracted to her beauty.

But when Molly Clanahan refuses to be bribed and also refuses to leave his house, Nate finds himself on the horns of a dilemma. In his wealthy social circles, where reputation is everything, the presence of a voluptuous unmarried woman in his home is a recipe for disaster.

But the longer Molly stays, the more Nate begins to suspect that she isn’t the greedy gold digger that she seems. He starts to believe that she’s taken refuge in his home because she’s hiding from something.

A exciting new release at a bargain price showed up next. It will be out April 20, 2020 and the pre-order price is a $1.30. This series is written by a team of authors (different book different author) authors most of us have seen and enjoyed. It looks like most of the other seven books are at bargain prices right now as well. My pre-order copy is now in the queue.

Accept Me (Chapel Cove Romances book 8)

No new free and bargain books February 16, 2020

I’m currently reading Speak Now, it’s still free, and I’m loving it. The setting, the life situations of the characters, and the direction things are taking them make the story appealing but….

The thing I love most about this story is the way it is being developed. Two things; first Chautona is using an awesome tool that is working very well for her. Unspoken communication. So much can be said with inference, reducing long paragraphs of mind numbing conversation to simple sentences. She’s got it just right and it works.

The second thing is character development. The two main characters are emerging layer by layer. The strong picture the opening scenes create is constantly changing with each new revelation. I’m at 15% of the book and realizing – I have no idea who these people really are. And I’m loving them.

This is one of my favorite Chautona books.

Speak Now, Chautona Havig

Speak Now

They met at a wedding and his children stole her heart. What started as a polite dance at the reception initiated a whirlwind romance. He admires her heart–not to mention her beauty. She feels more comfortable with him than anyone she’s ever met.

After an extensive Amazon search, I’ve not found anything else new and interesting in the Free and bargain range. I guess this is about it for today then. I’m hoping this won’t be a huge disappointment for you and that you still have something interesting waiting in your TBR pile.

My weather app says it’s cloudy here today but at the moment the sun is shining and life looks cheerful. A perfect time to refresh my coffee and go back to my book.

Maybe a little later I can come up with a read and enjoyed post. It would be a very good idea if I could since another backlog of read books is starting to accumulate.

In the meantime, Happy Reading to you!

Free and bargain books February 14, 2020

BookRunes has a FREE suggestion that showed up a couple of months ago. It’s always good to see books come back for another look. I did read this one too.

The Renovation: (Fulton Ridge Series book 3)

The Renovation

Amazon quote:

Donovan hasn’t dated since he wrecked the last two attempts. But when he sees Elizabeth, he rethinks his ‘no dating’ policy.

Starting over in a new town means Elizabeth needs to build friendships. When her roommate invites her to join the home improvement ministry, she gets more than she bargained for. Even though she gets a warning to stay away from her new best friend’s ex-boyfriend, she discovers that romance can be healing.

Life in Fulton Ridge gets better until gossips ruin her plans.

Author Chautona Havig has a Friday Freebie (it will be FREE for several days.) I think this cover would show up better on a paperback copy but the inside will read well just the same.

Speak Now, Chautona Havig

Cara has a unique talent for making anyone feel at ease. Jonathan prefers to listen rather than speak.

Sarah’s Smile (The Daughters of Riverton Book 1)

Sarah's Smile

Amazon quote:

Romance. Heartbreak. Scandal. Secrets. Second Chances.

In 1902, Sarah McCall is waiting to leave for the mission field when the man she once loved steps back into her life. Abandoned as a child by her mother and gambler father, she strives to overcome a tarnished history she didn’t create and a heartbreak she can’t forget.

Peter Caswell returns to his Wisconsin hometown a pastor, dedicated to his four-year-old daughter and new congregation. But no matter how hard he tries to move on with his life, he can’t forgive himself for his wife’s death.

When Sarah learns that Peter is returning to Riverton, the letter giving her departure date for Africa can’t come soon enough for her. They were best friends—she loved him and supported his dreams—but he married another and broke her heart. Although ten years have passed since he left Riverton, Peter hopes Sarah still cares enough to give him a second chance. But a charming newcomer pursues her affections—and Sarah’s childhood nemesis manipulates her way into Peter’s life. Will Sarah and Peter find their way to forgiveness and each other, or will past mistakes make a life together impossible?

One last bargain ($1.32 CDN), I couldn’t resist. It doesn’t look like all the rest and that has me hopeful. We have seen this author before, though.

Remember Me: (Chapel Cove Romances Book 1)

Remember Me

Amazon quote:

Heath Brock has been in love with Clarise for over twenty-seven years and counting. As a young man, he’d plucked up the courage to ask her out on a Valentine’s date, but the couple succumbed to pent-up passions, sending Clarise dashing for the other side of the country.

He’d held out hope of Clarise’s return, but buries his feelings for his childhood sweetheart when he learns she’s married.

Almost penniless, divorced, and with nowhere to go, Clarise returns home to Chapel Cove, her future uncertain.

With Clarise back in town, Heath is determined not to repeat past mistakes, but if he has anything to say about it, never again will he lose the only woman he’s ever loved.

Welcome to Chapel Cove, Oregon, where life begins at forty.

Today’s abundance makes up for the slime pickings of yesterday, which is very nice.

My current read was More Than Meets the Eye but I left it for Gotta Have Faith. Hopefully I’ll finish one of them, not sure yet if that’s gonna happen.

More Than Meets the EyeGotta Have Faith

Happy Reading y’all.

Another FREE book February 13, 2020

I missed one, BookRunes had a FREE suggestion this morning too.

Maybe it’s a good thing I missed it. It heads off in a much different direction from the rest of this morning’s offerings. Maybe it deserves the attention of it’s own post.

Beggars Daughter is a true story based on one woman’s life, sharing her struggle with a difficult but very real subject.

Beggars Daughter

Amazon quote:

If you think pornography is just a “guy thing” you would be wrong.

Jessica Harris was 13 years old when she was exposed to pornography. After four years, her use was out of control and when she went to find help, it became apparent that this wasn’t a thing many women do. All of the resources were for men, and when she got caught, she was told “Women don’t have this problem.” That sent her on a downward spiral and nearly landed her in the adult industry.

Spoiler alert: that didn’t happen. Instead, she found freedom, hope, healing and worth in the love and grace of God.

Beggar’s Daughter is a candid look into her story, how she struggled and eventually how God set her free. It is a narrative on grace suitable for the women who struggle and those who want to understand them. Through it all, the message is that no woman is ever beyond the grace of God.

There is a bargain book ($1.26 CDN) showing up on Amazon this morning, one we’ve seen before and it’s nice to see again. This is a collection of the four first books of four series. Several have recently been promoted separately but in case you haven’t been initiated to them here  they are again. I’m pretty sure I read all four books in this collection back in 2018 but I will have to check it out just in case I didn’t finish.

Making matters worse is the fact that her cats—and the investigation—are driving a wedge between her and her boyfriend Chad. With every answer she uncovers, old hurts rise to the surface and test her beliefs. In the fight for survival, one thing is certain: It’s either pounce or be pounced.

The offerings today are a little disappointing, the lack of offerings – more specifically, but tomorrow could be better. It’s always a pleasant surprise when awesome new books show up for us.

In the meantime Happy Reading! on this chilly winter day. It’s currently – 27c and feels like – 42c with the wind chill. We have an Extreme Cold Warning for most of our province of Manitoba while the sun is shining, the skies are blue, and a couple of birds were seen flying over the neighbors roof. A beautiful sparkly day. A perfect time to stay inside and enjoy the warmth of the sunshine streaming in the windows.

Today is not a good day for suggestions. Not even from Amazon. Nothing much new happening I guess.

It hasn’t been a good day for engaging books either, I’ve tried out a few and haven’t happened on the one I can’t bear to put down. Too bad they can’t all be winners. right?

Oh well. I tried a couple of books briefly and went straight to delete, I can’t even tell you now what they were.

Then I tried More Than a Second Chance, making it to 23% before giving up. It is an ok book but it took effort to keep going so I quit. I can hear other books calling out pick me, pick me.

More than a Second Chance

Currently I’m trying to get caught up in Brush Creek Cowboy. It’s holding my attention so far but I’m only a couple of chapters in. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Bush Country Cowboy

Maybe tomorrow will be a better day for new book suggestions.

Free books February 10, 2020

BookBub has a FREE book suggestion for us this morning.

A Joyful Break (Dreams of Plain Daughters book 1) I read this book in 2013 and I can still remember enjoying it.

A Joyful Break

Amazon quote:

After her mother’s untimely death, a twenty-year-old Amish woman has a difficult decision to make: Choose to break from the Plain community and her boyfriend and live in the English world permanently…or join the Amish church.

Rachel Hershberger wants to get away from her Amish home in Fields Corner, Ohio. For a year she’s been trying to fill her mother’s shoes by taking care of her father and siblings. She quit her job at the bakery so she would have more time to clean and cook at home. Before her mother died, Rachel was positive she wanted to marry Samuel Weaver, but now she can’t think about wedding plans. She blames her father for her mother’s death. If they had installed a phone in their barn or a shanty, her mother might have received medical help in time to save her life. Her mother’s death has made Rachel question if she should be baptized and join the church. She wonders if non-Amish women live longer and have less stress. Maybe her forty-four-year old mother would still be alive had she left the Amish lifestyle like her sister Carrie did.

When her Aunt Carrie invites her to go to the beach, Rachel decides the time away will help her to decide whether to join the Amish church or to live in the English world. She is conflicted because she loves Samuel and her family. Instead of a relaxing time away, disturbing events happen while Rachel’s in Florida. A photographer snaps troublesome pictures of Rachel because of her famous senator uncle, and a handsome and charming college student falls in love with Rachel.

Another FREE book showed up during this morning’s search.

Brush Creek Cowboy (Brush Creek Cowboy Romance book 1) This is a book new to me but we do see Liz Isaacson regularly. This should be a good read.

Bush Country Cowboy

Amazon quote:

Former rodeo champion and cowboy Walker Thompson trains horses at Brush Creek Horse Ranch, where he lives a simple life in his cabin with his ten-year-old son, Michael.

He’s worked with Tess Wagner, a widow who came to Brush Creek to escape the turmoil of her life to give her seven-year-old son, Graham, a slower pace of life. Together, they run a cotton candy stand at the town’s Heritage Festival every fall, and Walker gets up the nerve to ask Tess to dinner.
