BookBub has a FREE Mystery book suggestion. I’ve read and enjoyed one book from this author and I’m looking forward to this one too.

.A Criminal Game: A Suspense Novel (The Criminal Collection Book 1)

She’s a single mom just trying to keep it together.
Evie Diaz’s husband died three years ago, leaving her to raise their toddler and hold on to the life they built in New York. Though she loves her job as the night manager of a luxury hotel in Manhattan, it isn’t easy making it work, but she’s giving it all she’s got
.

He’s a hotel driver with a crush he can’t act on.

.

And he’s not the only one who’s noticed her.

I’m back. It’s been great spending the last two weeks camping with my kids and their kids. Good times. Even with the wild thunder storms. I’m sad to see it end, it has been an awesome experience for us all to be together again for the first time since 2018. Six years is a long time in the life of a child. They have all become young adults or are close to it. Camping is done but we still have a few more days before they all head home, and we are making the most of it.

Along with enjoying family, it’s time to get back to book browsing and I am looking forward to it too. The read and enjoyed list has grown too and that will need to be shared soon as well.

This first current suggestion was from 1531 Entertainment, in Regency genre with an author unknown to me. It looks interesting and worth a chance.

Lord of Worth (Ladies of Worth series Book 3)

London 1776: Lord Worth is busying himself restoring his family fortunes and burying any feelings he still harbours for the woman who rejected his proposal.

The fact that the lady in question—Lady Rebecca Fairing—happens to be his sister’s best friend, his niece’s godmother, and present at every Societal gathering of consequence is… unfortunate.

Meanwhile Rebecca fears she made the wrong decision in rejecting James Worth, but when he assures her he won’t be renewing his proposal, she is forced to accept her choice. It doesn’t take long for the eligible Lord Worth to attract other suitors, among them Lady Sophia, daughter to Society’s most notorious gossip, Lady Goring.

Rebecca knows she must step aside and allow James to find happiness, but when she senses all is not as it seems in the Goring family, she can’t help but intervene.

As James and Rebecca work together to unearth Societal secrets, deal with scheming matriarchs, and face villainous highwaymen, they find themselves more in each other’s company than ever before.

BookBub also has an interesting suggestion. We have seen this author before but not very often. I’m looking forward to experiencing her again.

The Crushing Depths (Coastal Guardians Book #2)

When an accident claims the life of an oil-rig worker on the first drilling platform off the North Carolina coast, Coast Guard investigators Rissi Dawson and Mason Rogers are sent to take the case. Tensions surrounding the oil rig are high and the death has everyone on edge. Environmental activists are threatening to do whatever it takes to stop the structure from being completed, while rumors are being whispered about ancient curses surrounding this part of the ocean.

Mounting evidence shows the death may not have been an accident at all. Was he killed by one of the activists or, perhaps more frighteningly, a member of his own crew? Rissi and Mason have to sort through not only a plethora of suspects, but also their own past and attraction to each other.

Just as the case seems like it’ll break open, worse news arrives. A tropical storm has turned their way and soon they’re cut off from any rescue–and right where the killer wants them. It’s a race to discover his identity before he eliminates the threat they pose.

My current read is a delight. I love stories with angels and guardian angels, they add a new dimension with abilities far beyond those of us poor humans. They can appear and disappear at the most unexpected times and say and do things that leave us shaking our heads. Angels add a whole new level of possibility to any story and it’s usually a fun ride. It is definitely fun in this collection. I’m reading number four of seven.

Albert the angel is on assingment!

Because let’s face it, sometimes romance needs a little help …

Albert: Angel Box Collection One

Watching the Wrangler:

Arabella Simpson’s family lived a nomadic life. Now they were in Creede, Colorado and it was no different than other place they’d stayed and high-tailed it out of. But, she had to admit, the scenery was beautiful and in more ways than one.

If she didn’t stop watching the wrangler at the neighboring ranch, they might have to vamoose for a reason other than her father’s gambling habit. Can two people determined not to fall in love find it? Maybe with a little help from one of Albert’s friend, Hansel, they can …

****************************

The angels are doing a good job, so far they have managed to be successful in all their assignments. It will be fun to see how this one will go.

I will see you again soon.

Happy reading!

It’s time to clear out the backlog of read-and-enjoyed books once again.

Saving Hope (The Men of the Texas Rangers Book 1) the latest book read is about rescuing young teen girls finding themselves slaves of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

When a teenager goes missing from the Beacon of Hope School, Texas Ranger Wyatt Sheridan and school director Kate Winslow are forced into a dangerous struggle against a human trafficking organization. But the battle brings dire consequences as Wyatt’s daughter is terrorized and Kate is kidnapped.

Now it’s personal, and Wyatt finds both his faith and investigative skills challenged as he fights to discover the mastermind behind the ring before evil destroys everyone he loves.

This next one was also a favorite.

The Reunion – Dan Walsh

There are people in this world we pass right by without giving a second thought. Some have amazing stories to tell, if we only took the time to listen. The Reunion tells the story of Aaron Miller, an old Vietnam vet and handyman in a trailer park.

Almost fifty years ago, Aaron saved the lives of three young men in a horrific battle, was even awarded the Medal of Honor. Severely wounded, he came home from the war and wound up losing everything. But God is a master at redeeming the lost things of life. Unbeknownst to Aaron, someone is looking for him. And the one who finds him might just find the love of his life, as well.

Then three more (twice), much enjoyed.

I will attempt this one next.

Hopefully this book takes, and draws me in. I’m shocked at the mounting list of partially read books.

There were no new books today among the suggestions. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

In the meantime…

Happy Reading.

Good morning y’all. Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends and family. It is going to be a quiet day for me. I’m sticking around home, I have a list of things to be done before company arrives in a few weeks so I’m going to tackle some of those. Lately my mind has not been focused on content for new posts, hopefully a quiet day will be helpful with that too. I’m feeling inspired so I’ll try to do a this and that post later.

So, on to books… we have a few possible suggestions from BookBub that look interesting. This first one is an author I’ve not come across before and I’d like to take a chance.

Beryl’s Blessing (Gems of Grace Book 3)

Five years ago, Beryl Haywood was crippled in an accident that claimed two lives. Since then, reading and painting have been the only companions to her long, lonely days.

Could an arranged marriage be a blessing in disguise? Or will it drive her to more anguish than she’s ever known?

Frederick Sinclair is struggling to adapt to normality after returning from the French battlefields. A hefty weight of guilt and regret weighs on him, taunting him that he’ll never be free from it.

Will his unexpected marriage be a pleasant distraction? Or will it confirm his deepest fears and crush him even more?

As the newlyweds begin to wonder if love might lie ahead, a startling discovery shakes them each to the core, threatening to snatch away the future they’d begun to hope they might share…

• Can be read as a standalone novel

This next one is a repeat from a year ago and I’ve read and enjoyed it.

Oath of Honor (Blue Justice Book #1)

Police officer Isabelle St. John loves her crazy, loud, law-enforcement family. With three brothers and two sisters, she’s never without someone to hang out with–or fight with. And she knows they’ll be there for her when things get tough. Like when her partner is murdered and she barely escapes with her own life.

Determined to discover exactly what happened, Izzy’s investigation sends her headfirst into a criminal organization, possibly with cops on the payroll–including someone from her own family. With her dead partner’s handsome homicide detective brother Ryan shadowing her every move, Izzy’s head is spinning. How can she secure justice for her partner when doing so could mean sending someone she loves to prison? And how will she guard her heart when the man she’s had a secret crush on for years won’t leave her side?

With her signature fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat action, Lynette Eason invites readers into a captivating new series where justice is a family affair.

**********************

I’m just getting into my current read but it’s good so far. Cassidy has been kidnapped, and rescued but I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be that easy for them to get back to America unscathed. Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Lethal Deception (Refuge from Danger Book 1)

Having rescued Cassidy McKnight from kidnappers in South America, Gabe Sinclair thought his job was done. Not that the former Navy SEAL could ever forget the brave, beautiful single mother. But when the danger followed her home, Gabe promised to protect her.

Why anyone would want to kill Cassidy was a mystery. Was the motive related to the orphaned toddler Cassidy was raising, a sweet little girl who brought out the father figure in maverick Gabe? Or did a newly revealed family secret have killer consequences?

Well, it has been a good blogging day so far, maybe the chances are good I’ll be back before the day is over. Hopefully.

In the meantime…

Happy Reading.

1531 Entertainment has an interesting suggestion today. Lynette Eason has been showing up on our reading radar fairly often lately and we are always happy to see her.

Currently, I’ve just started reading a book by an author fairly new to me. It’s too early on in the experience to form an opinion. So far so good though.

Murder at Black Lake

Film actress Jamie Riedel was barely a teenager when, while on a camping trip, she witnessed the brutal murder of her father. Fourteen years later, Jamie returns to Jackson Ridge to settle up the estate of her estranged mother. Soon after her arrival, a note appears on her door: ‘I saw you in the woods today.’ Now Jamie is questioning if the right man was sent to prison for her father’s murder.

Helping her to answer that question is childhood friend, Deputy Chief Gage Hansen. He’s more than willing to find the truth that will finally bring Jamie peace in her life, but at what cost? A nasty divorce from his cheating wife has made Gage gun-shy when it comes to relationships, especially with beautiful women who use their feminine wiles to get what they want in life. His defenses start to crumble once he learns that most of the stories he’s read about the starlet are lies, and that Jamie is basically the same girl he had a secret crush on when they were best friends. They live in two separate worlds, though, and Gage knows he could never fit into her celebrity lifestyle.

When it becomes apparent that someone in Jackson Ridge will go to any lengths to get rid of Jamie, the pair risks everything to solve the fourteen-year mystery that’s haunted the town.

For me, any excuse will do.

Hopefully it’s good reading weather now and then at your house too.

So good … read and enjoyed June 14, 2022

A well written, delightful story. Delightful in regard to humorous, well-played interactions. Dark and stressful due to an adversary with criminal intent. It was an engaging book just the same. I had to spend every available moment reading until the end.

In a last ditch effort to prove Kate’s innocence, Steve lays a trap for the murderer. Can he outwit the devious opponent, or will the next blood spilled in the sand be his?

It has been an excellent reading month.

The young girl with the Bohemian style was on the floor where she’d fallen, between Parker’s computer case and her file cabinet. She wore a long, flowing skirt—lavender, the color of calm—and camel-colored Uggs. She lay on her back, her long, wavy blonde hair matted with blood.

Read and enjoyed June 12, 2022 Part two

It’s time to clear out some of the backlog. The latest binge read has been the culprit, all due to such a great run on awesome books. Some of them have risen to the top as most memorable but on the whole they have been a cut above the average story.

It was hard to put this one down, I loved this story.

In Search of a Prince: An African American Royalty Romance Book (Christian Fiction by Black Authors)

Brielle Adebayo is fully content teaching at a New York City public school and taking annual summer vacations with her mother to Martha’s Vineyard. But everything changes when her mom drops a bombshell–Brielle is really a princess in the island kingdom of Ọlọrọ Ilé, off the coast of Africa, and she must immediately assume her royal position, since the health of her grandfather, the king, is failing.

Distraught by all the secrets her mother kept, Brielle is further left spinning when the Ọlọrọ Ilé Royal Council brings up an old edict that states she must marry before her coronation, or the crown will pass to another. Brielle is uncertain if she even wants the throne, and with her world totally shaken, where will she find the courage to take a chance on love and brave the perils a wrong decision may bring?

**********************

This is another one that kept me up half the night reading.

Shadow Game: A Christian Romantic Suspense (Shadow Alliance Book 1)

Morgan Caine spent three years in prison for a crime she didn’t commit before being acquitted, but that doesn’t mean she’s innocent. While trying to rebuild her life, she takes a gamble and hacks into a computer network, stumbling across an assassination plot in the process. But despite the possible risks, she refuses to sit back and let a man die, even if he represents everything she’s never had.
But Oliver Wright is not the man she thinks he is, and her good deed traps her in a conspiracy that forces her to question everything she’s known to be true and reveals to both of them that they have more in common than they first realized. Now, with time running out, both Morgan and Oliver must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice in order to save each other.

One more all night read from a favorite author.

Tranquility Falls (Miramar Bay Book 4)

Six years ago, Daniel was a Los Angeles financial analyst who was too handsome for his own good. Too smart for his anchor job on the nightly news. And too enamored with the heady addictions of the high life. That man died in a tragic accident with his fiancée. With grief and guilt battling for control, Daniel moved to the quiet California seaside town of Miramar Bay with his best friend—a rescue Labradoodle who still sees him through rough times. Daniel’s a different man now. Clean, sober, and taking things one day at a time with no commitments to anyone except himself. And just as his solitude begins to chafe, two souls in need of fresh starts unexpectedly enter Daniel’s life . . .
Realize that it’s time to wake up.

Daniel’s self-centered sister has dissolved several longtime relationships. Theirs included. The latest? Her restless teenage daughter, Nicole, whom she’s dropped off in Miramar Bay without a backward glance. For Nicole, who’s never felt at home in the world, it only confirms the disconnect she’s always had with her mother. Now, left with an uncle she barely knows, Nicole is more adrift than ever. Yet to Daniel’s surprise, playing surrogate father is forging a bond that he needs, too. More difficult for Daniel is the possibility of romance with lovely and fragile Stella Dalley. Struggling with a trauma of her own, the single mother is as cautious about love as Daniel is—no matter how healing it could be. But for Daniel, Stella, and Nicole there’s still hope for a tomorrow they can call their own. All they have do is to learn to trust in each other, and in themselves.
