That’s 29 books between three collections. It’s a good job one of the collections will be awhile getting here.

Mostly romance February 14, 2024

It has been awhile since I’ve been excited about a new book. I’m happy to be excited today. We have not one, or two, but a whole bunch of new choices from authors we have loved in the past.

Well, most of them are from the past but this first one is new to me and I’m looking forward to seeing what she is all about. This cover promises intense emotions and I think that’s what grabbed my attention. This will be the only one with a theme like this. The rest will be a mix with romance of some genre or a mystery/thriller with a little romance thrown in. Mystery is my favorite genre it seems.

Let’s get started, this could take a while.

Tomorrow Isn’t Promised

Who would choose to love a girl with no promise of a “happily ever after”?

Nathan isn’t sure choice has anything to do with it. When God calls, you answer. Even when that means taking a risk that might just leave you with a broken heart.

For Cherish, the future doesn’t look so tangible. Misty dreams of deeper fulfillment swirl in her heart—and of course, the longing for someone all her own.

When a shattering diagnosis tears her world apart forever, an equally unexpected love brings questions she never thought she’d face. Is it fair to accept his offer while death looms ahead? Can faith—and love—find meaning in tragedy? And does God really care about the stories that end in ashes?

I prefer clean stories and this looks like it might deliver.

I’m excited about this one. We’ve read book one in the series so it’s nice to see book two.

In the Shelter of Hollythorne House (The Houses of Yorkshire Series Book 2)

A young widow faces an uncertain future . . . until an unexpected encounter with her first love gives her heart a second chance in this Regency romance set on the Yorkshire Moors.

England, 1817—Charlotte Grey thought she had seen the last of Anthony Welbourne. Knowing her father would never consent to his only daughter marrying a man he deemed beneath their family’s station, Charlotte bid her final farewell to Anthony and vowed never to turn back. Instead, she honored her father’s wishes by marrying the wealthy Roland Prior.

Determined to put his love for Charlotte in the past, Anthony chose to immerse himself in a life full of meaning—first as a soldier fighting a war overseas, then as a member of William Walstead’s watchmen, a rugged band of men dispatched to deal with perilous situations. Fearless and persistent, he makes it his life’s focus to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves.

When Charlotte’s husband dies unexpectedly, she quickly realizes how blind she’d been to his nefarious ambitions and how many people he’d angered on his relentless quest for wealth. To protect her infant son, Henry, from those who wish him harm, she and the baby flee to Hollythorne House, her childhood home. There Charlotte comes face-to-face with her former love, who has been sent as one of the hired watchman to protect her and Henry until the details of her late husband’s estate are settled.

Anthony’s presence brings back feelings she never expected to have again, and she struggles to trust his intentions. Are the watchmen really looking after Charlotte as they claim—or are they looking to make trouble for Roland’s estate and heir? Despite the constant reminders of their past, Anthony must remain focused on the task he was hired to do. But when new threats emerge and the past collides with the present, both must decide what they are willing to risk for the chance to right old wrongs and carve out a new future . . . together.

Change in plans. This has gotten away from me. Look at the length. More added to this will be too much. Part two will be coming out shortly with mysteries.

Cleaning out the read pile January 13, 2024

Wow! I don’t even remember reading this many books since the last post like this. I know I hurried through a few of them just so I could move on to something else. There were a few I loved, hopefully they will stand out to me but the chances aren’t great. Too many other distractions this week.

I’m just going to go ahead and show them as a bunch. Probably newest to oldest. I’ve been searching through older ones in the pile looking for interesting reads I may have missed. Things have probably been messed up a little in that whole process.

One thing I know for sure: I remove and don’t mention any books I truly do not like, so we are safe. For sure, I at least liked everything here.

Let’s go.

I know for sure I enjoyed this next three book collection. actually, I think I enjoyed all three of these collections.

Anne Perry has been one of my top favorite authors for a very long time. All three of these books were excellent, actually. And the next three too.

This next bunch are foggy in my memory but they are marked as read. I can tell they are all books that I know I would enjoy.

It appears to be almost a month since the last clearing out, so I guess that explains a whole lot. I can see that most of these authors are repeat guests on my shelves so I can recommend all of them with confidence.

For a current read, there are two I’m trying to decide between. I know I will be reading them both eventually, it’s just a matter of what-do-I-feel-like at this moment. They are both suspense with favorite authors but they each have their own unique flavor and I’m hoping the second one will be more appealing.

I’m kind of disliking the possible bad guy in the first one. Plus the heroine keeps putting herself in danger and it irritates me some days when people insist on doing that. Especially this early in the story. I guess the title should give me a clue to expect bad behavior. Can you tell by the outfit she is not even a detective but an actress in the middle of making a movie. I do like her otherwise though.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Another new book January 10, 2024

BookRunes has a suggestion for us this time. I’ve not read this author before but after checking out the first chapter in her book I’m wanting to read the rest of it. It may even have to be next in line since I haven’t started a new one yet.

To Belong Together: (Rhythms of Redemption Romances Book 2)

Opposites attract, but do an undercover rock star and a female mechanic belong together?

Erin Hirsh’s life would be easier if God hadn’t given her a booming laugh and a love for cars. Though she can hold her own in a shop, only her father truly understood her, and she’s losing him to dementia.

Fame and fortune have complicated love for introvertJohn Kennedy. It’s even come between him and his sister, causing her to push him away just when he could help her most.

Thankfully, the spunky female mechanic who catches his eye has no idea he’s the drummer for the iconic rock band Awestruck. John’s determined to keep it that way as long as possible.

John and Erin’s worsening family situations and shared faith draw them closer, but as their relationship grows, the full truth of their differences emerges to divide them.

It’s another good book day.

Hidden Trial – Shawna Coleing January 10, 2024

I loved this book every bit as much as I thought I would. You can tell how much by how little time has passed since download (yesterday.) I wasn’t ready for it to end.

What did I love about it?

I loved the story line. It had the usual undercover operatives but with a new and different spin on pretty much all of the case details. It was a believable story with enough mystery to keep it interesting. It definitely didn’t turn out as expected either, which was highly appreciated.

I loved the cast. Definitely not your everyday run of the mill characters. There were three main characters. A set of identical twins. Both of them strong willed but different in so many ways. One with a huge chip on her shoulder and the other with a much softer view of the world. The third character, having to work with them both all of a sudden, one for the first time, faced a monstrous challenge, dealing with them while trying to keep everyone safe.

Keeping them safe made for some wild and surprising encounters that had me laughing out loud sometimes. Not all of them fell into that category though. There were many live or die moments too.

This story definitely rates as five star in my estimation. I would love to read it again sometime.

Hidden Trial (Hidden Alliance Book 1)

Charlotte, seeking solace in a quiet town after a harrowing overseas trip, discovers that a life of safety no longer satisfies her longing for adventure. So, when her sister, an undercover agent, sustains an injury that halts her operation, Charlotte seizes the opportunity to step into her sister’s role, taking on what appears to be a simple assignment.

Meanwhile, Will has spent years tirelessly searching for a kidnapped friend, desperately clinging to hope despite a trail that has long gone cold. When his undercover partner is injured and she proposes training her twin as a replacement, Will is torn by the ghosts of his past. The idea of involving a civilian weighs heavily on his heart, but the urgency of their mission persuades him to take the risk.

Little do they know that Charlotte’s involvement will lead them down a perilous path when the operation takes an unforeseen turn and they find themselves in a life-and-death struggle they never could have imagined. Now, they must surrender to God’s guiding hand and trust that He can lead them through the darkest of trials. But will it be enough to save them in this lifetime? Or will their enemy be the one to send them into eternity?

Browsing, another interesting book showed up for an author I’ve been following for some time. It will take us back to reading mystery again though. I think I will add this to my collection too.

When the ending of Joey’s upcoming movie leaves her unsettled, she’s determined to rewrite the script.

Actress Joey Darling has a new role. She’s starring as one-hit wonder Emma Jean Gibbons in an upcoming biopic. But the more she learns about the singer, the more Joey suspects Emma Jean’s death wasn’t as accidental as everyone thinks.

One more interesting book showed up, in a series I enjoy following.

Seeking Justice: A Romantic Suspense (Finnegan First Responders Book 2)

It’s been a good day.

Free book December 21, 2023

BookBub has a FREE suggestion for us this time. A change of pace with a sweet romance.

The Help of a Cowboy: Inspirational Romance (Crossroads Creek Cowboys Book 2)

Once a cowboy…always a cowboy. But when life delivers Chad a chance to hang up his boots and spurs, he’s all in.

He’s newly single, bored, and ready to move to the city to shake things up. She’s recently divorced, tired of the fast pace, and looking to settle in the country. When their paths cross, the two must work together if they have any hope of following their dreams.

The farm is an albatross around Chad’s neck. Hard work and little time for fun. When his sister gets married and moves into town, the timing is perfect to sell the farm and move on with his life.

Diana is on the road to nowhere, looking to escape her past and find a special place to call home for her and her daughter. When she spots a farm for sale just outside of Crossroads Creek, she knows in her heart it’s perfect. There’s only one problem…she doesn’t know the first thing about dairy farming.

Chad wants nothing more than to refuse her contingency offer on the farm. The idea of teaching Diana everything he knows about dairy farming over the course of the next month while the place goes through the closing process was ludicrous. Except he’s anxious to sell and buyers aren’t lined up knocking on his door. And then there’s the little girl…her blond curls and precocious spirit reminding him of days gone by…when life was simple.

That’s it for today, one book. Mystery/Suspense has been on my radar for the last two weeks so this will be a nice change.

Cleaning out the read-and-enjoyed pile once again December 11, 2023

New twists and turns make it an excellent read. I think that is what I loved most about this first book, because new and unique always adds to the attraction. Definitely a 5 star experience.

Tone Death (The School of Hard Rocks Mysteries Book 3)

Camryn Paine is all ears when it comes to solving crimes. . .

Annie King, a popular social media personality, is being threatened and requests Camryn’s help. Before Camryn can uncover the truth about what’s going on, Annie nearly dies while filming her show. With Annie in the hospital, Camryn is compelled to do whatever she can to help.

Danger escalates, and Camryn turns to the one man she can count on to help her solve the crimes—her former love, popular country singer Weston Turner. He’s there for her now, but she fears he’ll leave again and take her heart along.

With so much on the line, Camryn must hit all the right notes . . . before the outro leaves her at death’s doorstep.

Another 5 star read that I really enjoyed. Again, it’s the new and fresh twists and turns that make this so good.

This snowy day is a perfect time for reading!

This one was an all-nighter December 11, 2023

I made the mistake of starting this new read close to bedtime, a couple of days ago. Bad move. But really, who knew it wouldn’t let me go before both the end of the book and the night. 6 am is pretty much the end of the night, right?

It was so worth it.

I launched into book 2 first thing the next day but it was like having second helpings of an amazing meal. It was good but didn’t pack quite the same punch. Still another five star read though.

It’s difficult, for me anyway, to pinpoint reasons why it was so good. Reading is always an emotional experience. Good or bad. I love or hate the ride as a package deal. To pick it apart trying to figure out what made it so good would spoil the experience. I know, that’s not the way it is for everyone and it’s a good thing. Who would write awesome reviews if those other people didn’t exist.

Unpleasant reads often have jarring speed bumps along the way. Those bad reasons definitely garner our attention and are easier to identify.

On the other hand, a good read is like a successful run down a challenging ski hill. You get to the bottom with a gigantic fist pump, shouting YES! That was Amazing!

I know, I know. I’ve changed analogies a few times (okay, maybe more than a few) but hopefully you get the picture I’m trying to paint here.

Book 1 was an amazing read.

Expired Return: A thrilling fire and rescue romantic suspense (Last Chance Fire and Rescue Book 1)

Fire. Family. Faith.A wounded hero. A woman in danger. Forced proximity protection and a family they both need…But can he keep them safe?

He always knew she was the one.

Fire Department liaison Allen Frees might be in a wheelchair, but he’s putting his life back together…the only thing missing is the woman he loves. When she needs his help, he’s not going to blow this second chance…No matter the sacrifice.

*****************

Book 2 was good too.

Expired Hope: A gripping fire and rescue romantic suspense (Last Chance Fire and Rescue Book 2)

Fire. Family. Faith.
A fire chief, a woman in danger, a forbidden love…can it survive the flames of revenge?

She’s running to a fresh start…

Veteran and therapist Natalie Atkinson just wants to help heroes survive their past. But when she’s rescued from a fire…and falls for the one person she’s supposed to help…she could destroy both their futures.

It’s his last chance to get it right…

But danger is stalking her and someone is going to get hurt.

So, he’ll have to protect her, without crossing any lines. And she’ll have to make sure that she doesn’t get him killed.

****************

So there we have it.

Lastly, 5 more, December 08, 2023 Part 3

OK, I’m am definitely quitting with this batch, it’s time to move on. I’ll start this out with one from Karen Kingsbury, one of my longtime favorite authors. She has a wonderful way of adding depth to every story and I love that about her.

Even Now (Lost Love Series Book 1)

Shane is getting married—but can he forget the girl he loved years ago? Lauren’s dreams of happiness walked out the door with Shane and the daughter she gave up, and now Emily searches for the mother she never met. Can three hurting people find hope in the ashes of yesterday?

Shane Galanter is a man ready to put down roots after years of searching for happiness. But is he making the right choice? Or is there a woman somewhere who even now also remembers those long-ago days . . . and a love that hasn’t faded with time?

Lauren Gibbs is a successful international war correspondent who gave up on happily-ever-after years ago—when it was ripped away from her. Since then, she’s never looked back. So why can’t she put to rest the one question that haunts her: Why is life so empty?

Emily Anderson is a college freshman raised by her grandparents and about to take her first internship as a journalist. But before she can move ahead, she discovers a love story with a tragic ending that came accompanied her birth. As a result, she is compelled to look back and search out the mother she’s never met.

Sometimes hope for the future is found in the darkest moments of the past.

******************

A nice thing about author Robin Patchen, you get your monies worth. All four books fall close to 400 pages, a little one side or the other. One of them is more than half way to 500. I love it.

It turns out, thankfully, the first book in this series already appears on my read-and-enjoyed list so that is one less temptation.

I think the books have been numbered but I haven’t figured it all out, there is no particular order for them, best I can tell, so we are good.

Wreathed in Disgrace: Page-Turning Christmas Romantic Suspense (Coventry Saga)

A famous actress, a protective bodyguard, a festive Christmas season, and a killer…or two…on the loose.
