LPC Free Books has FREE suggestions for us. I’ve not read this author but it looks interesting.

My current book is still a bargain and it is a good read. The main character is strong willed, smart, but she has her flaws. She makes the story worth reading.

Bittersweet Motives (Serena Manchester Mysteries Book 1)

Former reporter Serena “Rena” Manchester has transitioned into her new career as a private detective. The Clayton Matthews Law firm sends a few investigations her way that pays the bills, though the work is hardly exciting. However, a shift occurs one day while she is taking photos of a prominent businessman, Edwin Peters, with his young mistress. When the woman shows up dead, Serena has no doubt that Edwin Peters is the prime suspect.

A monkey wrench is thrown at her theory when Serena realizes her client, Mrs. Judith Peters, has just as much motive to kill the young woman. Rena is going to need her hard-nosed tactics to find a murderer because the suspects keep piling up.

Two books.

The first one The Cryptographer’s Dilemma (Heroines of WWII Book 1)

Full of intrigue, adventure, and romance, this new series celebrates the unsung heroes—the heroines of WWII.
 
FBI cryptographer Eloise Marshall is grieving the death of her brother, who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor, when she is assigned to investigate a seemingly innocent letter about dolls. Agent Phillip Clayton is ready to enlist and head oversees when asked to work one more FBI job. A case of coded defense coordinates related to dolls should be easy, but not so when the Japanese Consulate gets involved, hearts get entangled, and Phillip goes missing. Can Eloise risk loving and losing again?

The unique thing about this book was that while it was totally fiction the story was based on real historical events. The author used creative licence to make time lines and activities fit within the story framework while at the same time using real names and many details. The idea was to honor those involved in this heroic retelling.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable read with a great ending. It’s interesting to catch a glimpse of what life was like in hard times for some of our ancestors

The second book is Wounded Heart: A Mystery (Reed Family Mysteries Book 5) 

The final book in the crime-fighting Reed Family mystery romance series.

Jackson “Jax” Reed has exchanged his years as a reporter to become a New York Times bestselling author. Being birthed from an affair, Jax has always had a cloud that’s loomed over his life. Despite the growing success of his true crime books, a secret that his mother took to the grave has turned his life upside-down. Jax runs into an old flame, Ebony Hampton, the woman who broke off their engagement fifteen years ago. These two quickly find themselves at odds since Ebony is the FBI agent tasked with investigating the serial killer who happens to be the subject of Jax’s latest book. When their shared “subject” makes a daring escape from prison, the former couple will find themselves risking their lives together.

This was a highly enjoyable read too.

A special part of this story, for me, was the authors treatment of interpersonal relationships. We all have our own approach to living life and it showed up in the way her characters conducted themselves. It was refreshing to see a new treatment to an often experienced scenario. It was more pragmatic and less emotionally reactive.

The mystery part of the story had a fresh take on it too.

Overall, this was a great read. I would love to read the rest of the series.

My current read is wonderful and still a bargain. I’m just getting started so the good details are not here yet but I’m excited to see where the story is going.

It’s a good day with one book. It’s a good day too with the snow melt. The worst is over and it’s crazy how fast everything disappears when the temp warms up close to 0 and the sun shines bright.

BookBub has a bargain suggestion and I think we have seen it recently but can’t confirm it. I’ll pretend it’s new and not apologize for showing it twice. Lynette Eason is worth seeing again anyway.

This one was definitely a favorite. Excellent writing, great characters, well put together story. Today was a read day. Must finish once started. It’s still a bargain if you are interested.

Kill Shot: A Novel (White Knights Book 2)

Some fears haunt you forever….

As the ballistics and weapon’s expert for the FBI’s special task force nicknamed the White Knights, Rick Cannon has known the Department of Defense was developing self-steering bullets. Rick feared these smart bullets–which have one hundred percent accuracy that can turn even a novice into a lethal sniper–would eventually end up in the hands of the wrong people. But since the ammunition was still in the development stage, he figured they had plenty of time before that happened. He was wrong. Dead wrong.

I’ve not read anything from this author and samples have not been provided. Based on the number of five star reviews I’m going to give this a shot. I’m not expecting to be disappointed.

I know the caption for most of these say Christian but I’m pretty sure they have all been written for the General Market. That means they are clean, focused on a good story, with no “preachy” stuff.

That’s my favorite. I’m equally not a fan of preachy or over done public displays of affection. It’s not easy to find books free of those things and it is so appreciated when they do show up.

While I’m not a fan of books with an agenda, I still include those I can tell will be promoting christian values because I know there are people out there looking for answers and encouragement.

I include them because I know people are discerning and can decide for themselves what they do or do not wish to read.

In the meantime, I’m pretty sure with these three we are getting today are pure story, and I’m looking forward to the new one I have not read.

I found a good book for us. Amazing.

We’ve read book 1 in this series and now we can look forward to book 2.

Have you checked out this author? You should. Susan Sleeman writes an excellent story and appears on here regularly.

Go straight to current read. Do not pass books.

I’d like to stop at books but there were no enticing suggestions for us today.

Talk about browsing though, you will have to check out this collection even if you don’t want it. The publisher has put on quite the visual display, it’s startling in it’s impressiveness. Vivid colors, amazing graphics. Like the cover of this book only bigger.

Another thing. I’ve been downloading books from this author for a number of years but this is the first one I’ve taken the time to read. I’m surprised at how well I’m liking it. Then, the other shock is his ability to create such real emotion. His characters have intense responses to dreadful things. And the reader is drawn in right along with them. The main characters happen to be guys, which in this case is highly appropriate.

I think I’m about halfway through book one.
