It looks like it is shaping up to be a good new-book day. BookBub has a FREE suggestion from an author we’ve seen recently but I’ve not read, yet. Checking out the first chapter in today’s book collection, so far anyway, I’m liking the authors writing style and I’m hooked, needing to know what happens next. Sounds like there is a good chance this will be the next read. I’m hoping that PDA will not be the overriding theme. Strong story is definitely the preference for me.

First Kisses: A Collection of Sweet & Inspirational Romance Series Starters

This set includes the first books in Jo Grafford’s top fan-favorite series — full of faith, family fun (and sibling rivalry), laugh-out-loud humor, and happily-ever afters.

HEART LAKE #1: Winds of Change
The cowboy who broke her heart and the career opportunity that brings her back to the small town where they first fell in love…

BORN IN TEXAS: HOMETOWN HEROES A-Z #1: Accidental Hero
After a bad breakup, former Army Ranger Matt Romero is on a new mission — to remain single. Rescuing a lovely cowgirl from a highway collision is definitely not in the plan. Neither is the unexpected attraction it sparks.

COWBOY CONFESSIONS #1: Mr. Not Right for Her
A scarred cowboy determined to remain single and the klutzy new ranch hand who trips up his carefully laid plans…

BLACK TIE BILLIONAIRES #1: Her Billionaire Boss
When the CEO of a mega corporation hires the rebel youngest daughter of his family’s biggest rival to serve as his personal assistant…

Sadly, that’s it for book suggestions today but at least we have four in this one. That’s awesome.

Maybe something else will show up later too, you just never know what can happen as the day goes on.

Happy Reading.

This is interesting. BookRunes brought us this suggestion. This is the first time we’ve crossed paths with this author and her story description is unique. Checking out the warnings at the bottom this blurb, this book does not sound anything like our usual reads in a number of ways. Maybe that’s not a bad thing. Sometimes a story like this helps us see the real world and the horror that victims are forced to live through. Some of us may find this triggering. That was not mentioned in the warning but maybe it should be. Read carefully.

The Woof Pack

BOOK ONE in The Woof Pack Trilogy
A Christian Romantic Suspense Series

It’s just a regular evening when Iyana’s neighbors ask her to babysit their dog. Everything seems fine until two masked men enter the apartment without an invitation.
At first, Iyana thinks they’ve come to steal the dog—she’d heard of a string of break-ins in the community by a group called The Woof Pack. But when these thugs overpower her and drag her away, she realizes they’re not pup-loving enthusiasts at all.

A case of mistaken identity gets Iyana taken in by one of the deadliest gangs in New York. Now, she has seen their faces and has learned their names; even though they know they’ve got the wrong girl, they aren’t going to let her go.
Fortunately, Iyana is a smart woman. She strikes a deal with the leader of the gang … they’ll let her live as long as she makes herself useful. But Iyana is just a naive Christian girl babysitting an innocent pup. What can she offer the most dangerous man in the city?

She knows exactly what he wants. She can tell from the way he looks at her, the way his eyes linger when she catches him staring. But she’s not willing to give him that. Anything but that.
The Woof Pack have taken her hostage; they’ve taken her mind, body, and her will. But she won’t let them have her heart.

If only Vito Gerardo were that easy to resist.

***WARNING***
This book is a work of Christian fiction: there is no foul language, and no graphic scenes of violence, sex, or gore. Due to content involving gang activity and hostage situations, this series is recommended for mature audiences ages 17+

Another beautiful day, chilly but beautiful. And we have books.

BookBub has a bargain suggestion. New book but previously enjoyed author.

Not Until You: A Christian Romance (Hope Springs Book 3)

She clings to the past like a treasured antique. He’d rather toss it in the trash. But if they can learn to trust in the God of second chances, they might just discover a future together.

The past haunts him… Nate’s star was rising in the world of Christian music. But all that was erased with a single, life-shattering mistake. One he doesn’t deserve to be forgiven for. One that means he doesn’t deserve a future—and definitely not with his beautiful new neighbor.

It’s not all bad. In fact, one new lodger fits the Jayne’s first-snowfall wish for love. However, another guest turns out to be the hottest guy from her office–and her biggest critic.

She catches one glimpse of him and thinks he’s there to ruin her week. He catches one glimpse of her and he’s ready to turn around and leave Wildwood Lodge.

Jayne’s far too kitschy. He’s far too traditional. But can opposites attract in the magic of Wildwood Lodge?

My current read is almost finished, maybe this last one will be next in line.

Can you believe it? It’s snowing in our part of the world. It’s coming down fast and furious but the flakes are too newly formed and much too small to live long. The snow is making a valiant effort though. There is a white strip forming along the fence rails in my yard. Someone 45 minutes away is seeing better progress than I am in the accumulation struggle. It’s fun to see the difference only a few miles can make.

It will be time to put up winter decorations in a couple of days, so says my grandson! I couldn’t agree more.

Snow is exciting but so are books.

BookRunes has a suggestion for us, but I have to warn you, it looks to be blatantly Christian. It also looks like it will deal with less-than-christian practices within the church. I’m sharing this because I want to read it. Maybe a few of you want to as well.

Carry Me Home (New England Inspirations Book 2)

Unlikely friends…

… can be the hardest to let go.

Amanda became a nurse to save as many lives as possible.

After her mother died while being swindled by a church leader, Amanda swore off religion and turned to medical science to solve all of life’s problems.

But when she loses her home and job, and struggles to make a new life in a new town, Amanda’s feeble beliefs can’t withstand the pressure.

Hector’s work on earth is done.

He spent 92 years living, and now he’s ready to spend eternity with his late wife in heaven.

But when a foolish accident lands him in the hospital, he’s saddled with a home nurse who wants to keep Hector alive as long as possible, much to his dismay.

When Amanda meets Hector, their personalities clash, but as they learn to open their hearts and listen to each other, they grow to realize the value of true friendship.

Fans of Karen Kingsbury will enjoy the realistic characters and faith-driven novels by Valerie Howard.

Another interesting read showed up in the suggestion strip. It may be of a similar focus as the one above but less blatant. I’ve read the book that comes after this one but 2016 is in the far distant past and I don’t remember if I liked it. I’m looking forward to this short story anyway.

Appalachian Serenade (Appalachian Blessings): A Novella

Delilah Morrissey has always wanted to be a mother, but when she becomes a young widow, that dream now seems farther away than ever. Unable to continue to live alone in Chicago, her only option is to accept her sister’s offer to move in with her family back in West Virginia. Will Delilah have the faith to pursue a new dream–even if it means giving up the old?

In this charming novella, debut novelist Sarah Loudin Thomas introduces readers to Wise, West Virginia–a small town nestled in an Appalachian valley where the everyday miracles of life and faith play out in stories of healing, hope, and love.

Includes an excerpt of Miracle in a Dry Season, the first full-length novel in the Appalachian Blessings series–a book New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber called, “Wonderful, simply wonderful.”

Time has passed and now it’s mostly raining with a few flakes here and there.

I was hoping to wait another week before the yard cleanup crew arrived, there are still a few trees slow to drop their leaves. Now I’m glad they were paying more attention to the weather than I was and they showed up yesterday to clean up the record setting pile of leaves.

It must be all the rain we’ve had this year.

There was trouble with my book order going through today. It’s a mystery why. Hopefully they will show up sometime soon

Hopefully it worked for you.

Deep End of the Lake

2021 Golden Scroll Award Winner

Who Says Giving Up Dreams Isn’t Success?

Ally Cervantes has all she wants in life—an upcoming wedding, a chance to prove herself with a writing gig, and two great kids. But her life turns for the worse when the unexpected happen and she soon finds herself struggling with a rebellious teen daughter, a shaky job, and a shakier engagement. With her newfound faith acting as a life preserver, Ally discovers if you’re in the deep end of the lake, you’d better learn how to swim. Although fiction, Deep End of the Lake, is written from the authors’ personal compassion for families who have the privilege and responsibility to care for a child with a disability. Having worked with autistic students, Carol has seen first-hand the stress and demands these parents face and wanted to capture in a story those pressures, all while providing the encouragement that a beautiful hope and faith can bring into the struggles.

My current read is one we’ve seen before somewhere but I’m not sure where. Probably a collection with other authors. I do remember the experience but the details are hazy so I’m reading and enjoying it again.

Mountain Man (Finding Love in the Blue Ridge Mountains Book 2)

A “Briskin” had dared to trespass on forbidden Maxwell land—and that spells trouble.

Meera Briskin is determined to find out for herself whether the Maxwells are the unmitigated rogues she has been taught to hate. The long-standing feud between the two families that began three generations ago—the result of a chestnut tree blight brought in from the Far East—is still very much alive.

Posing as a participant at a writers’ conference held at the famous Chestnut Lodge, run by none other than Elliot Maxwell, Meera soon is caught in the web of her own deception. Should she admit to being a Briskin and face immediate expulsion? Or should she linger, knowing that with each passing day that her feelings for her enemy grow stronger?

Jumping right in.

BookBub has a FREE suggestion for us today. Yesterday we had a WWII suggestion and today we have another one. They are both attractive because they have a fresh slant on the subject. Each one from a different perspective. I’m looking forward to this read. The author is new to us too, but the first few pages flow nicely so I have high hopes for her writing ability.

Spies & Sweethearts: A Christian WWII Romance (Sisters in Service Book 1)

She wants to do her part. He’s just trying to stay out of the stockade. Will two agents deep behind enemy lines find capture… or love?

1942. Emily Strealer is tired of being told what she can’t do. Wanting to prove herself to her older sisters and do her part for the war effort, the high school French teacher joins the OSS and trains to become a covert operative. And when she completes her training, she finds herself parachuting into occupied France with her instructor to send radio signals to the Resistance.

Major Gerard Lucas has always been a rogue. Transferring to the so-called “Office of Dirty Tricks” to escape a court-martial, he poses as a husband to one of his trainees on a dangerous secret mission. But when their cover is blown after only three weeks, he has to flee with the young schoolteacher to avoid Nazi arrest.

Running for their lives, Emily clings to her mentor’s military experience during the harrowing three-hundred-mile trek to neutral Switzerland. And while Gerard can’t bear the thought of his partner falling into German hands, their forged papers might not be enough to get them over the border.

1531 Entertainment has a bargain book from a new favorite author. Five enjoyable downloads from this author in the last two years means I’m looking forward to this one too.

Love Starts With Elle (A Lowcountry Romance Book 2)

Elle’s living the dream but whose dream is it?

Elle loves her life in Beaufort, South Carolina. Summer days on the sand bar, coastal bonfires, and dinners with friends, sharing a lifetime of memories. She’s found her stride professionally as the owner of a successful art gallery. Life is good.

And she’s found love with handsome, confident Jeremiah Franklin. But Jeremiah has accepted a large pastorate in a different state, so Elle turns her life upside down to take the call with him. When Jeremiah has a change of heart, Elle is hurt and her faith is shaken.

New York lawyer and recent widower Heath McCord imagines the lowcountry cottage he’s rented for the summer is the balm his grieving heart needs. That and time to connect with his little girl. He’s unprepared to meet his beautiful landlord, Elle Garvy, or the love her friendship awakens.

***********************

The reviews for both of these books are positive which is very encouraging.

I hope you give these a try. The goal always is to find books that will be attractive to anyone. Clean, positive, interesting is the criteria. Occasionally something unexpected will pop up, something I’d rather not see. For the most part, though, it’s been a good experience. The downside, if there is one, usually has to do with skill and writing ability. Not all stories are created equal when it comes to abilities, but writers have to start somewhere.

Here’s hoping I made good choices. I think I did.

Happy Reading!

1531 Entertainment has a bargain suggestion for us. Reading the synopsis it’s clear the attraction of this story is complex, which increases the allure. We’ve had three enjoyable books from this author recently and remembering that experience tells me the chances of this one being worth our while is high. Many good reviews reinforce this assessment. We will still have to read it for ourselves to decide if we agree.

A Time to Stand

A highly relevant and gripping novel that challenges us to ask what it means to forgive while seeking justice and to pursue reconciliation while loving others as ourselves.

Adisa Johnson is living her dream of practicing law with a prestigious firm in downtown Atlanta. Then a split-second mistake changes the course of her career.

Left with no other options, Adisa returns to her hometown where a few days earlier a white police officer shot an unarmed black teen who is now lying comatose in the hospital.

Adisa is itching to jump into the fight as a special prosecutor but feels pulled to do what she considers unthinkable as a young black woman—defend the officer.

As the court case unfolds, everyone in the small community must confront their own prejudices. Caught in the middle, Adisa also tries to chart her way along a path complicated by her budding relationship with a charismatic young preacher who leads the local movement demanding the police officer answer for his crime.

In a small Georgia town where racial tensions run high and lives are at stake, can one lawyer stand up for justice against the tides of prejudice?

  • A stand-alone legal drama
  • Book length: approximately 120,000 words
  • Includes discussion questions for book clubs

***********************

I’m starting a new book and expect to love it a lot if the first chapter is any indicator. It’s not a fluff piece but it is romance and not as intense as a mystery would be, which is a nice change of pace.

Like a Winter Snow: A Sweet Romance (Port Willis Romance Book 1)

Cozy up with this charming romance all about unexpected love, true friendship, and family loyalty. Set during a Christmas-time wedding among the falling snow, this sweet story will warm your heart.

Women’s counselor Joy Beckman has always been a friend and helper to all. That’s why she’s given up everything to be with her parents as her mother suffers through Alzheimer’s.

Joy may not have a thriving career or a love life at the moment, but she’s doing what she does best—taking care of others. And even though it’s difficult, she knows it’s where she is supposed to be.

But life throws a curveball when she has to leave her parents temporarily to travel to England for the December wedding of her best friend. While there, Joy helps Sophia tackle her last-minute to-do list, and in the process, finally meets a man who turns her head—and her heart.

The only problem? He lives in snowy London, and her life is with her parents back in sunny Florida.

She tries to resist Oliver Lincoln’s charms, but it’s harder than it should be. With her heart torn in two, Joy is forced to choose between a life she knows she’s meant for and the one she didn’t see coming.

This last book is still free, and it’s short – only 142 pages. Unlike the first book with a whopping 413 pages. We need one to balance out the other. Can you imagine if every book was 413 pages? I favor long books but sparingly.

That’s it for today.

Enjoy and Happy Reading
