BookBub has a bargain suggestion for us at $0.99, from an author new to me.

The Duke’s Refuge (The Leeward Island Series Book 1)

The Duke's Refuge

Amazon quote:

Georgia Lennox has traded in her boyish ways for pink gowns and a coy smile to capture the eye of the Earl of Claremont. However, on the day she’s convinced the earl will propose, Georgia is shipped off to the Leeward Islands to care for her ailing father. But when she arrives on Nevis, the last thing she expects is to learn that her abrupt departure was not at her father’s bidding but that of the infuriating, yet captivating, island schoolmaster. And now her plans may well be shipwrecked.

Harrison Wells is haunted by the memories of his deceased wife and hunted by the subsequent women who aspire to be the next Duchess of Linton. Desiring anonymity, he finds sanctuary in the Leeward island of Nevis. He’s willing to sacrifice his ducal title for a schoolmaster’s life and the solace the island provides. That is until unrest finds its way to Nevis in a storm of pink chiffon—Miss Georgia Lennox.

Missing (Faith in Concordia Book 1)

Missing

Amazon quote:

In fact, in her current school, she has managed to seep beautifully into obscurity, only ever needing to worry about her bully, Reese Grant. With only a little over a month left of her senior year, she thinks she’s in the clear.

That is, until the school counselor decides Faith would be the best person to show around new student, and fellow senior, Colman Nightingale. So many things don’t make sense about this. Why would the counselor want a self-proclaimed loner to be the new kid’s introduction to not only the layout of the school, but the social aspect of it? What is this guy doing transferring so close to graduation? How does that even work?

Despite trying her darndest to put him off, Cole insists on becoming her friend. Just when Faith decides that it might not be so bad to have a friend, he goes and makes up some grand story about her being the daughter of a fae lord. Yeah right.

It’s another pleasant sunshiny Friday. A good day. I’m healthy and able to sit still long enough to read some of these new books. Bonus!

Free and bargain books March 23, 2020

This whole social distancing thing surrounding the corona virus issue is turning out better than some of us thought it would. In so many ways. Checking in with some of my friends, they seem to be just as busy as they were before. It looks different these days but they’re not having to search for things to do.

Kids are a different story, it’s a little harder for them to find things to do sometimes. An active imagination helps though and I’ve noticed my grandsons have a knack for making good use of their’s. My daughter shared a picture of her boys intently playing with a small patch of ice in a snowbank on the side of their street. It wasn’t clear what scenario they were visualizing but it was working for them.

This weekend the new reality of universal self isolating impacted my normal hermit lifestyle in an unexpectedly negative way. Not that I’m complaining or anything. It’s the sudden explosion in live-streaming.  Everyone is jumping on board, singers, bloggers, church services, pretty much anyone and everyone. It took all my time just to keep up with some of the interesting new offerings out there this weekend. So much fun.

The flow of new book suggestions has been a little slow anyway so the lack of new posts is all good. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

So, back to awesome book suggestions:

1531 Entertainment has a FREE suggestion I’ve not seen before.

Relentless Love: A Father’s Pursuit

Relentless Love

Amazon quote:

Gretchen Volmer didn’t come home last night. It’s Sunday morning and her dad has heard nothing from her since she left for the concert the night before. When he learns that her best friend is also missing, and her car has been abandoned in another town, his worry turns to fear.
An Army veteran and former cop, Den Volmer gathers emotional and logistical resources for pursuing his daughter. The police think she might simply be exercising the freedom of a nineteen-year-old. Den knows his girl. Something is wrong. And now he’s in a frantic race to find the abducted girls before they’re dropped into the darkness of the underworld.

1531 Entertainment also has a bargain suggestion for us at $1.44 CDN. We had a suggestion from this author a few months ago and it was a good read. I’m looking forward to this one as well.

Looking for Justice: Christian Contemporary Romance with Suspense (Dangerous Series Book 4)

Looking for Justice

Amazon quote:

Alexis Jergenson, a former attorney, flees her painful past and unsettling law career to teach at a small Christian college. But she’s not the only one running. Luke Stephens is fleeing the effects of the Afghanistan War and a failed marriage, and the last thing he wants is another pretty woman in his life. Haunted by their pasts, they’re both seeking new lives. However, when one of their students is assaulted, they find themselves allies in a fight for her life.

************

Another 1531 Entertainment bargain, at $1.31 CDN this time. This is an author new to me. A time travel story catches my interest.

Vestige of Hope (Vestige in Time Book 1)

Vestige of Hope

Amazon quote:

Thrown out of his element into a time not his own, he must overcome his doubts to save the life he never knew he wanted.

Soldier, Hunter Bennet, is always in control…
…control of his missions.
…control of his life.
…control of his emotions.
Until he hesitates on an important mission, leaving a child orphaned. Chased by the demons of failure, he finds himself thrown back in time. Why has God called him here?

Viola Thomas’s idyllic life in the new state of Colorado is shattered when her father fails to return from his winter trapping trip in the Rocky Mountains and a man tumbles into her life from the future. Threats from an unwanted suitor who has pestered her for years jeopardize all she holds dear. Now she must trust a man from a world far from her own.

**********

BookRunes also has a FREE suggestion, one that has been around before but we are happy to see again. I can even remember reading this a bunch of years ago.

All of Me: A Small Town Romance (The Bridesmaids Club Book 1)

ALL of Me

Amazon quote:

Four friends. Twenty-two bridesmaids’ dresses. One random act of kindness that will change their lives forever.

Tess has given up looking for Mr. Right, but that doesn’t mean she’s given up on love. When she reads a newspaper article about a young couple who’ve had everything stolen from their home, including four bridesmaids dresses, she knows she has to help.

But by helping the bride, Tess risks exposing a past she doesn’t want anyone to know about. She does everything she can to minimize the danger she’s in, but she does the one thing guaranteed to destroy everything – she falls in love with the wrong man.

It has been a good day. Three new books for me. Hopefully you will find something interesting here too.

Free and bargain books Davis Bunn

More to share on this quiet Sunday.

Best selling author, Davis Bunn, has a specially priced book suggestion for us (at $1.99). I’ve lost track of how many decades I’ve been reading and loving his books, or even how  many I’ve read. Not nearly enough, I can tell you that. His first book was published in 1990, according to Wikipedia, and there is a very long list of titles to his name (seventy-two if I counted correctly.) He also writes as Thomas Locke and that’s another eighteen novels .

Outbreak is on special right now and I’ve not read it, yet.

Outbreak

Amazon quote:

The waters off the West African coast are a menacing red, full of algae thick enough to stand on in places. In nearby villages, mysterious deaths start to occur–and the panic mounts. But before an alarm can be sounded, the sea currents shift, the algae vanishes, and the deaths stop. Everyone is relieved when things return to normal, and local government officials are happy to sweep the publicity nightmare under a rug.

An American biological researcher, Avery Madison, is dispatched by his employer to piece together exactly what happened, having long feared an ecological disaster just like this could occur. He’s had little evidence to go on before now, and what he finds in West Africa is rapidly disappearing. But Avery knows the danger hasn’t disappeared–it has just moved on.

When parts of the Caribbean start turning a familiar red right before hurricane season kicks into high gear, the implications are clear. If Avery and his colleagues can’t convince the world of what’s about to happen, toxic destruction could be loosed on American soil. Will their efforts prove too late?

********

If you are interested in trying one of his Thomas Locke stories there is a FREE title to be had today. I’ve read and enjoyed this one, back in 2016.

Double Edge (Fault Lines): A Fault Lines Story

Double Edge

Amazon quote:

Reese Clawson’s work is mind-bending–literally. Her company specializes in global data analysis for an elite group of industry executives, and now a lucrative government contract is moving her into the realm of cutting-edge intelligence gathering. She is determined to crack the limits of consciousness–and in doing so, the boundaries of secrets and lies. But her experiment crashes as test subjects slide into a coma-like state. Reese is left scrambling to maintain control, drawing three disparate people into the search for answers–an adrenaline-amped thrill junkie with altered brain chemistry, an Italian scientist working on remote-viewing technology, and a math prodigy whose algorithms subvert computer encryption.

Also FREE is an excerpt to introduce us to the Legends of the Realm series. I’ve downloaded this book in 2016. Previously, in 2015, I downloaded and read the first book in the series, Emissary, and I recall loving it. The introductory book, The Captive, is 400 pages so it is not short and I’m a little confused as to what exactly it does contain.  I’ve not read it but guess I should if I want to understand. It’s back on my TBR list.

The Captive (Ebook Shorts) (Legends of the Realm): A Legends of the Realm Story

Captive

Amazon quote:

The only remnant of Joelle’s former life is her name.
The only hint of her future is a foreboding vision of darkness.
And her only hope is a man she has yet to meet.

One of the last of a disappearing race, Joelle spends her days as a prisoner of the Long Hall, sweeping corridors and dusting scrolls while young wizards learn to ply their trade. In the dark of night, she practices the magical arts that are forbidden to one of her kind, hoping to soon break the spell that holds her captive.

But an evil is growing beyond the enchanted stone walls. Joelle will need much more than her own skills to escape it. Someone is coming for her. And when he arrives, he will change everything.

This short ebook excerpted from Emissary gives you a magical glimpse into the Realm–and the heroes who will stop at nothing to save it.

*********

Emissary (Legends of the Realm Book #1) is not a bargain but you can see what it looks like. Maybe you will want to read it anyway.

Emissary

Amazon quote:

Hyam is a likeable lad who will make a fine farmer someday. But he carries a burden few can fathom. As his mother slips toward death, she implores him to return to Long Hall, where he spent five years as an apprentice. It was there that Hyam’s extraordinary capacity for mastering languages came to light–and soon cast him into the shadows of suspicion. How could any human learn the forbidden tongues with such ease? When Hyam dares to seek out the Mistress of the Sorceries, her revelation tears his world asunder.

He has no choice but to set out on the foreboding path–which beckons him to either his destiny or his doom. An encounter with an enchanting stranger reminds him that he is part hero and part captive. As Hyam struggles to interpret the omens and symbols, he is swept up by a great current of possibilities–and dangers.

I am a fan of fantasy and this was a favorite when I read it five years ago.

If you’ve not met Davis Bunn yet I think you will enjoy him, just like so many others do.

Bargain books February 22, 2020

BookBub has a bargain suggestion for us today at $0.99. This book showed up for us last summer and I can remember really liking it.

The Red Door Inn (Prince Edward Island Dreams Book #1)

The Red Door Inn

Amazon quote:

Marie Carrington is running from a host of bad memories. Broke and desperate, she’s hoping to find safety and sanctuary on Prince Edward Island, where she reluctantly agrees to help decorate a renovated bed-and-breakfast before it opens for prime tourist season.

Seth Sloane didn’t move three thousand miles to work on his uncle’s B&B so he could babysit a woman with a taste for expensive antiques and a bewildering habit of jumping every time he brushes past her. He came to help restore the old Victorian–and to forget about the fiancée who broke his heart.
The only thing Marie and Seth agree on is that getting the Red Door Inn ready to open in just two months will take everything they’ve got. Can these two wounded souls find hope, healing, and perhaps a bit of romance on this beautiful island?

********

The Vacant House (Sophie O’Brion Mysteries Book 1) is still a bargain at $0.99. I liked this one a lot too.

The Vacant House

Amazon quote:

She knows she didn’t do it, but everybody thinks she did.

It all begins when best-selling author Sophie O’Brion is the last person to see a murder victim alive. She looks even more guilty when a woman from her church is beaten, and Sophie was seen with her just hours before. Suddenly, people she has known her entire life begin pointing accusing fingers at her.

Marine Master Sergeant Burke Maguire, an old flame who dumped Sophie years ago, has recently been hired as a police officer in Forman Falls, Texas, and is assigned her case. She doesn’t want his help.

********

I’m excited to see Angela Hunt has a bargain book out right now. She has been one of my favorite authors for decades. $0.99 is a really good deal for one of her books. There are other similar books in this series and I can’t recall if I’ve read any of them. I don’t think so – though I’ve read similar books. I’m looking forward to this.

Egypt’s Sister (The Silent Years Book #1): A Novel of Cleopatra

Egypt's Sister

Amazon quote:

Five decades before the birth of Christ, Chava, daughter of the royal tutor, grows up with Urbi, a princess in Alexandria’s royal palace. When Urbi becomes Queen Cleopatra, Chava vows to be a faithful friend no matter what–but after she and Cleopatra have an argument, she finds herself imprisoned and sold into slavery.

Torn from her family, her community, and her elevated place in Alexandrian society, Chava finds herself cast off and alone in Rome. Forced to learn difficult lessons, she struggles to trust a promise HaShem has given her. After experiencing the best and worst of Roman society, Chava must choose between love and honor, between her own desires and God’s will for her life.

********

I found another bargain book, by an author unknown to me. I’ve read similar books to this one, but they were definitely not the same. I can’t make a recommendation at this point but I do plan to read it to see if I like it as well as I liked the others. This would fall in the Metaphysical Fiction category.

Adam’s Reign (The Hidden Kingdom Book 1) $0.99

Adam's Reign

Amazon quote:

Take a leap of faith into a world unlike any you have ever known, one where mankind still remembers its foundations and all the earth is clothed in perpetual springtime. Here, angels and demons wage war for the souls of mankind, and man lives for hundreds of years, forever growing either in righteousness or in evil. In these days, there are few who acknowledge where they have come from, few who keep hold of the one true God who wrought the world. For those who do, the blinders are ripped off and they see the truth: a world at war. Tucked just behind the veil of sense experience, battles rage and captives are taken as kingdoms collide and man is caught in the middle, a part of the struggle but unaware of his role.

********

The last two books will not be quick reads. I think it will be a deep and thought provoking experience, for both of them.

It’s always a good day when we find reads that break away from the usual. Today is a good day.

I’m currently reading Amish Promises, it’s early on and the jury is still out on whether I’m loving it or not. Certain forms of angst are hard for me to handle and this may be one of them. I can handle reading about tough situations, just not if the reading evokes anxious feelings. I know, that’s the whole point, to make the reader feel something. Make me laugh, I like that better. This book is still a bargain at $0.99.

Amish Promises

Amazon quote:

When Joel and Shani Beck arrive at their new home, they’re looking for peace. Shani is thrilled to have Joel back from Iraq, but he needs time to heal, and the quiet of Lancaster seems just the place. They can’t imagine any trouble with their Amish neighbors, the Lehmans, but things get off to a rocky start when their son is involved in an accident that injures one of the Lehman boys.

Eve Lehman has run her brother’s household ever since the death of his wife, but Tim’s a stern patriarch. Despite his protests, she’s drawn to the new neighbor, Shani, and the two begin to form a strong friendship forged on faith and family. Suddenly life for both families becomes more complicated than any of them could have ever imagined.

Books Read and Enjoyed January 2, 2020

It seems, today is not a good day for free or bargain books but there is a long list of read-and-enjoyed books to talk about, so let’s get to it.

Three Days in Heaven, I think this is probably my favorite story on this list. Although I haven’t refreshed my memory about the others yet, to verify this statement. For sure it is one of my favorites.

I didn’t know what to expect with this story. How would he handle this subject matter. Would his treatment of the idea make sense? Would the characters and their actions come across as believable? I think he did a great job on all aspects. It is believable and gives an accurate, if rather unorthodox, view of what God is like. To give the author credit: he isn’t trying to cater to anyone’s sensibilities, just giving an honest view of heaven as he understands it.

Some-things I know he’s got right; God loves all of us deeply (most of us have no idea how deeply), he has a large sense of humor, he doesn’t look at our actions through the lens of a strict set of rules and regulations (the way we assume he does), rather he looks deeply at the longings and intents of our hearts.

The author weaves an engaging story that leaves us with hope and a feel good experience.

Three Days in Heaven

Alias Raven Black  Second Chances book 2. Great book. It didn’t take much effort for me to spend the time needed to make my way through this story.

The FBI has some evidence against Raven and they are demanding cooperation if she wants to avoid prison. They want her to go undercover as a nanny for a mob boss’s young kids. She has no training for undercover work never mind filling the role as a nanny. They know enough about her actions in past indiscretions to believe she has the bravado to pull it off. She will find the evidence they need for a solid conviction.

Things become complicated when Raven discovers she’s not the only undercover operative in the house. Nor is the FBI the only agency represented. On top of that, her dad keeps showing up as a friend to her employer. What in the world is he up to?

Lots of awesome twists and turns in this story.

Fashioning the Future One of my favorite authors. Well worth the read.

I'll Watch the Moon This is a new one by an author I enjoy. Looking forward to it.

Still Life in Shadows This one I did read years ago but can’t remember if I liked it.

Summers' Love This one is billed as a cute Cinderella story. I didn’t  love it when it came out a few months back but maybe that’s just me. I’ll include it this time so you have a chance to decide for yourself.

I think there are three I’ve not read before so I’m excited about that. Hopefully you find  something here to be excited about as well.

Happy Reading
