Another installment of Read and Enjoyed

Two parts to this April listing of Read and Enjoyed was not in the original plan. I have a bad habit of clicking in places I ought not to when I’m clearly not ready to hit publish. I’m never sure how it happens but I would guess it’s impatience. Wishful thinking that the computer will work faster than it does. Clicking in the right spot prematurely brings amazingly bad results sometimes. Oh well, no harm done… this time.

So to carry on…

This first book was a fun read. It reminded me of Get Smart the TV series from the ‘sixties. Not quite believable but fun anyway. I’m happy to report this is still FREE.

Red Rover, Red Rover (The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott Book 1)

Red Rover

Amazon quote:

He makes terrible coffee, but he sure is good in a car chase!

Emily Abbott is working hard as a coffee barista in downtown Phoenix, keeping one eye on her tiny college fund and the other on the mysterious new guy with his profound lack of coffee-making skills. Just when she thinks they might be getting the hang of working together, she’s abruptly thrust into his world of espionage and danger.

Brent Peterson, aka Agent Nighthawk, needs her help protecting a defecting enemy spy and keeping the information he carries out of the wrong hands. But she’s just a barista—what can she do?

This next one is not trying to be fun but was a good read nonetheless. It’s still a bargain at $1.99

Agent Undercover (Rose Mountain Refuge Book 1)

Free books April 19, 2020

Today is a browsing day, looking to find some new and interesting books.

Here is a FREE Western Romance that could be interesting. I think we downloaded another one similar to this yesterday.

Broken Ranch (The Sisters of Clearwater County Book 1)

Broken Ranch

A FREE book from last fall – read, enjoyed, and happily seen again. This is a favorite of mine. It is definitely not the usual as it has the distinct habit of travelling in unexpected directions. I liked it enough to read it again, if only I had the time.

A Woman of Fortune (Texas Gold Collection Book 1)

A Woman of Fortune

Amazon quote:

You never know what you’re really made of until you lose everything.

Texas socialite Claire Massey is living the dream—designer clothes, luxury cars, stunning homes. But everything comes crashing down when her charming cattle broker husband is arrested for fraud. Suddenly she finds herself facing attorneys, a media frenzy, and a trail of broken hearts. Betrayed and humiliated, Claire must maneuver incredible odds to save her family—and discover a life worth living.
Author Kellie Coates Gilbert delivers a story both poignant and emotionally gripping that celebrates the kind of fortune that lasts.

Another FREE book I’ve seen before, in 2017. I can still remember it being a favorite and I do plan to take the time to skip through and refresh my memory on this one.

The Watchmaker’s Daughter (Glass and Steele Book 1)

The Watchmaker's daughter

Amazon quote:

India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her – an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.

Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again – and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.

I’m currently reading and enjoying Snow Angel, sad it is not still a bargain for you.

Snow Angel

When Noah Wesley heard the faint sound outside the door of his remote Alaskan mountain cabin during a violent nighttime blizzard, it was no less than the voice of God that urged him to take a closer look, soon to discover his snow angel.

Unconscious and more than half frozen to death, her name, as Noah would later learn after boldly saving her life, was Elizabeth, a beautiful young woman, fragile yet fierce, and intent on discovering gold like so many others in that region during the late 1800s.

Happy Reading.

I hope there is something here that captures your interest.

Read and enjoyed – end of April installment

I’ve just finished Serenity Landing Second Chances and loved it. It was one of those stories where you gradually lose sight of your own reality and begin to feel like you are living in theirs. This collection has the Princess Diaries feel to it (one of my favorite movies.) Each of the three books involves a different member of the family and while it leans toward a lighter read it has enough depth to keep it interesting. Books 1 and 3  were the ones I enjoyed the most. This is still FREE too which is very nice.

Serenity Landing Second Chances Compilation: (Serenity Landing & Beyond – The Collections Book 3)

Second Landing Second Chances

Book 1: A pregnant mom with no place to live and a child television star with a royal brother.

Book 2: Three women in the cottage yarn industry. Three men who don’t understand their fascination, but love them anyway.

Book 3:  A duchess trying to escape from under her father’s tyranny and the Crown Prince who’s loved her for years.

The books are all linked together with friends and extended family members walking in and out of each story.

This next one was good too. It wasn’t a light read though.

Dakota Peace

Dakota Peace

After a traumatic call, emergency dispatcher Natalia Brynner flees the city, desperate for some distance from her stressful life. Her peace is short lived when a flat tire strands her on the other side of South Dakota with nothing but her high heels and a speeding ticket. State Trooper Travis Wilkins offers to keep her company while she waits for a new tire, but the quick fix turns into an overnight visit which turns into an extended stay.

She soon finds herself in the middle of a foster child’s kidnapping case helping the handsome law man. With the support of her new friends and her blossoming relationship, Natalia starts to believe she could finally experience a peaceful life … until an armed madman threatens it all.

Another excellent read.

A Stolen Heart (Cimarron Creek Trilogy Book #1)

A Stolen Heart

From afar, Cimarron Creek seems like an idyllic town tucked in the Texas Hill Country. But when former schoolteacher Lydia Crawford steps onto its dusty streets in 1880, she finds a town with a deep-seated resentment of Northerners–like her. Lydia won’t let that get her down, though. All will be well when she’s reunited with her fiancé. But when she discovers he has disappeared–and that he left behind a pregnant wife–Lydia is at a loss about what to do next. The handsome sheriff urges her to trust him, but can she trust anyone in this town where secrets are as prevalent as bluebonnets in spring?

This next FREE book is on my 2014 reading list and I still remember it. That means a lot, when I stop to think about it.

In Between (A Katie Parker Production, Book 1)

In Between

Amazon quote:

Katie Parker is about to get a new life—whether she wants one or not.

She launches a full-scale plan to get sent back to the girls’ home when she finds herself in over her head…and heart. When Katie and her new “wrong crowd” get into significant trouble at school, she finds her punishment is restoring a historic theater with a crazy grandma who goes by the name of Mad Maxine. Then again, how many single mothers have the equivalent of neurotic mothers-in-law to deal with… all while planning a wedding no less!

Amid the hubbub of wedding preparations, Christmas celebrations, and a house full of lively children, Aggie is feeling overwhelmed and unappreciated. Add to that two puppies who are growing faster than she can replace chewed shoes and fix dug-under fences, it seems like things just can’t get any worse.

Then, as she should be enjoying the most exciting time of her life, she’s faced with her worst nightmare.

Chronicles of the Mercy Giver: A Race for Tomorrow Thriller (Book One)

Chronicles of the Mercy Giver

Amazon quote:

From the author who shocked the world with his groundbreaking and bestselling Battle Series, comes Mark Romang’s most chilling thriller yet.
Investigative journalist Lauren Kramer, a rising star in the Cable TV news industry, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime. Find an angel and interview him, and do it within a four-week window.
Lauren’s target is a mysterious being who has rescued people from peril all over the world, only to disappear without a trace soon after performing the miracle. Armed with various newspaper accounts of the alleged angel’s exploits, an artist rendering of the angel’s face, and assisted by a kindly seminary professor specializing in angel studies, Lauren hits the road in an all-out effort to do the impossible and acquire the interview.
But Lauren soon discovers she isn’t the only one searching for the hero. A secretive group of people have spent large sums of money trying to capture him. And the more Lauren learns of these dangerous individuals and their plans to alter the planet, the more convinced she becomes she’s chasing the wrong story altogether.
An action thriller tour de force with an over-arching Christian theme, The Chronicles of the Mercy Giver crosses over into multiple genres, including mystery, suspense, fantasy, science-fiction, and dystopian.

It looks like there will be enough here to keep us busy for a while. The book collection has over 900 pages and the thriller will likely be a consuming read, I’m thinking.

Free and bargain books for April 15, 2020

Browsing may be fruitful this morning.  This first book is one of my read-and-enjoyed from 2017 and I would bet we’ve seen it recently too. Again is not a bad thing.

Leaving Oxford (Southern Hearts Series Book 1) … $1.31 CDN

Leaving Oxford

Amazon quote:

Escaping home to Oxford, Mississippi, seemed like a good idea. Until it wasn’t.

A year after a tragic accident in Los Angeles flipped her world upside down, advertising guru Sarah Beth LeClair is still hiding away in her charming hometown of Oxford, Mississippi. And she may well be stuck there forever. Suffering from panic attacks, she prays for healing. Instead, her answer comes in the form of an arrogant football coach and an ugly puppy.

Former celebrity college quarterback Jess McCoy dreamed of playing pro football. One freak hit destroyed his chances. Although he enjoys his work as the university’s offensive coordinator, his aspirations have shifted to coaching at the highest level. His plans of moving up are finally coming together—until he falls for a woman who won’t leave town

Well, it appears browsing is not the way to go this morning afterall. I requested clean. That’s not what was offered so I gave up the search. The usual sources were dry this morning too.

I do have seven or eight read-and-enjoyed to share, in another post though. Removing those will reduce my Kindle book list by one page. Currently the list on my device is up to 29 pages at eight books per page. That’s a little overwhelming, to say the least. I need a slow download day, or two, or three to keep ahead of things. I hope you have the same problem, a long to-be-read list. Maybe not as long as mine.  It would be a sign you are finding a wealth of books catching your interest and I’ve done my job. My self imposed job of  spreading a passion for reading good books.

I’m currently reading Dakota Peace and it is still FREE. I’m almost half way through. The first part is good and I was hopeful but now it is on a downhill slide. It is becoming predictable, light on story and heavy on fluff scenes. Disappointing. I’ll hurry through but will make sure to see how it ends.

Dakota Peace

Free and Bargain books April 12, 2020

BookRunes has a FREE suggestion for us today. This is Jamie Carie’s first novel, there are others, and for me, this is a first time exposure to her work. While searching, it’s a little confusing as this book has two different covers. The free kindle version is with this particular cover. Also, Snow Angel is a very popular book title so be sure to include the authors name to have it show up quickly. I’m going to check this book out.

Snow Angel Kindle Edition by Jamie Carie

Snow Angel

But why Elizabeth was so drawn to the gold, and why she would chase it even through a pounding storm that no man would dare face, was a secret to be shared with no one else, not even at the invitation of Noah’s deep blue trusting eyes.

I’ve just finished Knox. I would give it four stars, mostly because there were multiple scenes that (in my opinion) could be cut to make the story better. It is still FREE if you would like to give it a try. It was a good read and one that I would happily reread.

Knox

Amazon quote:

His voice threaded through her, as if it might be made of rawhide, designed not to break, to weather time and elements, as sturdy as the land he probably worked. Because yes, he wore cowboy like a second skin, the no-nonsense aura of hard work and get ’er done.

“Do I need to go back there and put some hurt on anyone?”

He wasn’t smiling, and she couldn’t tell if he was serious—maybe. Which sort of unrooted her for a moment. Um…

A woman in danger. A man who can’t help but save her. But, at what cost?

I’m about to read Justice Mission (True Blue K-9 Unit), it is not a bargain anymore.

Justice Mission

With Sophie’s boss missing and someone determined to silence her, NYPD officer Luke Hathaway vows he and his K-9 partner will guard her. There is a Lyn Cote bargain book though,  Precarious Summer: (Northern Shore Intrigue Book 1) it is still $0.99. This is one I’ve read and enjoyed, a good choice.

Audra Blair, a young single mom, is no longer going to work for someone else during the brief summer tourist trade. She has bought an old Victorian near the lakeshore and has opened “Audra’s Place,” a coffee shop-bakery in the mornings. And in the evenings a carry-out pizza shop. Her future and her little girl’s hinges on its success. She is the sole support of her child, not wanting to have contact with the man who abandoned her when she told him she was expecting six years ago.
But someone in town is dangerously unhappy and begins setting booby traps that explode into flame. Targeting people close to Audra and Carter.

I can’t help but look at (willing something interesting to be there) the Amazon suggestions ribbon while I’m putting this all together – a dangerous thing for me to be doing – looking. Another Eason bargain book showed up, $1.99. This may be one I’ve read as a library lend one year but I can’t be sure so…

This list of books should keep us busy and out of trouble for today… rather unlike the characters in the stories!

Happy Reading,

and a Happy Easter, even if we are self isolating.

It sounds like, from expressions and comments I’m hearing, this current pandemic situation is a season of reflection on what is truly important. I wholeheartedly agree. My thoughts have changed significantly through my time of self-isolation. (years of it, partly by choice and partly not. My friends and relative tease that I’ve been in training for this pandemic. I laugh and agree. Actually it has been better for me than normal with more contact than I’m used to. Texts, emails, phone calls. It will be sad to see things go back to normal)

The good thing, coming out of the hermit life – I’ve landed in a happier place than I have in years. It has been a time of letting go. I’m more inclined to be tolerant and forgiving. It is not an easy life but it does pay big dividends if aloneness can be embraced. The positive changes have been a choice though. It could go either way, positive or negative, depending on our choices. Positive has turned out to be a wise decision for me.

Stay safe and make the most of this down time. Remember. This too shall pass. Good or bad, it always does.

KNOX: The Montana Marshalls

Knox

His voice threaded through her, as if it might be made of rawhide, designed not to break, to weather time and elements, as sturdy as the land he probably worked. Because yes, he wore cowboy like a second skin, the no-nonsense aura of hard work and get ’er done.

“Do I need to go back there and put some hurt on anyone?”

He wasn’t smiling, and she couldn’t tell if he was serious—maybe. Which sort of unrooted her for a moment. Um…

A woman in danger. A man who can’t help but save her. But, at what cost?

*Susie writes a delightful story! – NYT bestselling author Dee Henderson.*
