1531 Entertainment has several interesting suggestions, both of them from longstanding popular authors.

Shades of Blue

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury comes an emotional story of forgiveness and healing. In between a checkered past and a fairytale future, three people must find a way forward.

Brad Cutler is a 28-year-old rising star at his New York ad agency, about to marry Laura James, the girl of his dreams. Anyone would agree he has it all: a great career, a beautiful and loving fiancée, and a fairy tale life ahead of him—until memories of his high school girlfriend, Emma, begin to torment him.

Lost innocence and one very difficult choice flood his conscience, and he is no longer sure what the future will bring except for this: he must find his old love and make amends.

Friends since childhood, Brad and Emma became a couple in high school—before their relationship was forever altered by a single decision. Haunted by the past and confused about the future, Brad turns to God seeking forgiveness and redemption for the choice he and Emma made long ago.

Brad, Emma, and Laura must work through the repercussions of a decision made as teenagers that continues to affect each one of them before any of them can look toward a new future.

One Little Lie (The Pelican Harbor Series Book 1)

Jane Hardy is appointed interim sheriff in Pelican Harbor, Alabama, after her father retires, but there’s no time for an adjustment period. When her father is arrested for theft and then implicated in a recent murder, Jane quickly realizes she’s facing someone out to destroy the only family she has.

After escaping with her father from a cult fifteen years ago, Jane has searched relentlessly for her mother—who refused to leave—ever since. Could someone from that horrible past have found them?

Reid Dixon is well-known for his documentaries, and his latest project involves covering Jane’s career. Jane has little interest in the attention, but the committee who appointed her loves the idea of the publicity.

Jane finds herself depending on Reid’s calm manner as he follows her around filming, and they begin working together to clear her father. But Reid has his own secrets from the past, and the gulf between them may be impossible to cross—especially once her father’s lie catches up with him.

“Colleen Coble always raises the notch on romantic suspense, and One Little Lie is my favorite yet! The story took me on a wild and wonderful ride.” —Diann Mills, bestselling author

I’m reading a book I can barely put down. It is well written and an awesome story.

It is also still Free, you should grab it quick before it disappears.

When You Look at Me (A Pleasant Gap Romance Book 2)

An unexpected mother-to-be
A romance-leery composer
And a forgotten melody from the past that holds the keys to their futures

When Julia Jenkins’ great aunt dies and leaves her a Victorian mansion with decades of secrets, Julia never expects to unearth a World War 2 espionage mystery. Struggling with her own past since an assault left her pregnant, her future as a solo parent leaves her dreams uncertain. The inheritance from her great aunt gives Julia the ability to take a step back into her future, but also sends her into the discovery of a love story she’d never anticipated. As she goes through her aunt’s treasured possessions, Julia uncovers some oddly written piano music with a musical code she can’t decipher on her own. Not to worry, introverted Englishman and composer, Henry Wright, is thrust on the scene by a pair of homespun matchmakers who know the ‘right’ man for Julia’s wounded heart.

Henry arrives in Pleasant Gap with the task of composing the soundtrack for his best mate’s newest film. The Jenkins’ family’s southern welcome and gregarious personalities set his reticent nature on edge, but he’s inexplicably drawn to his gentle and music-loving hostess, Julia. Uncertain how to build a friendship with the wounded woman, and rather hopeless in communicating well through words, the bond of music becomes a bridge between her uncertainty and his awkwardness.

But her broken past and his families’ expectations build a wall much greater than the cultures that separate them. As they work together to solve a musical mystery from the grave, will an unlikely romance from the past inspire their hearts to trust in a God who’s written the perfect melody for their lives?

With these two, there will be three five star books in a row.

In the Unveiled Series the author has a gift for playing our heart strings with a wide variety of emotions. I think if I had anything to say about this book it would be just that, it was deeply emotional across all three books.

The Domino Effect was also an intense experience. It was very well written and engaging.

I loved them both and when the current read is finished I will be able to say I loved it too. I don’t get to say that nearly as often as I would like to.

BookBub has several bargain suggestions for us. This first one is an author I’ve never met. It appears she lives in my area but I’m not recognizing her name, I must ask around. I’m sure others in our monthly group will have met her somewhere along the line. I’m looking forward to experiencing her book.

Northern Deception (Heroes of the Tundra Book 1)

I’ve read two books from this next author. I think she belongs on my favorites list but reading another one would help decide for sure.

Four Little Blessings: Contemporary Christian Romance (The Dalton Brothers Book 1)

Introducing the Dalton Brothers series.

When Wade Dalton moves to a small Florida beach community for peace and quiet and a new job, he encounters the four little kids next door who are anything but quiet.

Because of difficult circumstances, the little noisemakers live with their young aunt, Cassie Rankin, who is their guardian. Wade is drawn to her determination, giving nature, and beauty, but she’s at least a dozen years younger than he is—way too young for him. At least that’s what he keeps telling himself.

Besides, he has issues that would only make life more challenging for Cassie and her charges. He plans to stay out of their lives, but four little blessings refuse to let that happen.

Oops, this is taking longer than I thought.

I was checking out the current read to see if I should share it and kind of got sucked back into the story. When I pulled out to take a breath it took a few seconds before I remembered I was supposed to be writing not reading. I guess that’s a good enough sign that I should share the book. I’ve read and loved the first book of the three. I wasn’t sure I would like the second installment as I suspected it would be predictable. It has turned out to be anything but.

Unveiled Series Boxed Set

Read all three books of the Unveiled Series in one boxed set and follow one girl’s unforgettable journey of self-discovery, faith, and love.

Eyes Unveiled: A broken past. A jeopardized future. And a song of hope holding the answers to both. Not now. Anytime but now. With her junior year of college hanging in the balance, the last thing Emma Matthews needs is a blue-eyed distraction capable of undoing her plans with a single guitar strum. But when the reflection she sees in musician Riley Preston’s eyes borders dangerously close to the one she’s spent the last five years searching for, Emma discovers her walls can’t guard her heart from the hope he awakens.

Light Unshaken: A promise threatened. A love shaken. And a song of grace whispering courage to both. Between an unexpected relocation and mounting danger at her internship, there’s too much at stake to come undone now. Emma’s determined to be strong for those depending on her. But the more she strives to protect them, the more risks escalate until her worst fear collides with all she’s fought to trust.

Hope Unbroken: A dream worth fighting for. A fear worth surrendering. And a song of love leading them through it all. With an ultimatum jeopardizing Riley’s career and a ruthless vendetta sabotaging Emma’s efforts to save the Portland center, the fires they’d spent the last four months facing are far from over. As danger strikes and rifts emerge, the unrelenting war between the past and future tests Emma’s convictions until she has no choice but to put her faith in the one thing she’s always doubted.

Whew, OK, so now I can go back to my book.

I had several posts in mind earlier but I guess I waited too long and now I can’t remember what they were. I’ll do some thinking before tomorrow, maybe they will come back to me. Or not. I guess if they don’t it means they weren’t all that great anyway. Something will show up I’m sure.

Until tomorrow.

Happy Reading!

It’s snowing again. bigger flakes this time. Not huge but not miniscule like the other day either.

Read and enjoyed January 20, 2022

To start off with, I have to share this gem. A Davis Bunn quote from The Domino Effect Page 91. It’s an interesting idea that resonates with me. I’ve been mulling a similar thought over in depth recently and I like the way he puts it.

Willfully blind?

“Most people live broken and fractured lives” Sir Trevor said. “And remain willfully blind to any chance they might have of healing and moving on.”

It’s a great thought and fits in with where I am in my head these days but it’s not at all what the book is about. The quote is in fact referring to a scene with the main character’s brother. He has been severely injured in a car accident and there are many theories around his lack of progress in healing. This was one of them.

Instead, the main part of the plot is full of intrigue, the dangerous kind.

For me, this was a story where magic happened. You know, like watching a movie that you are totally caught up in and feel like you are there living it with them. I had a hard time putting it down, read it in record time and then was sad when it was over.

A Financial Thriller That Will Keep Readers on the Edge of Their Seats

Esther Larsen, a leading risk analyst at one of the country’s largest banking institutions, is becoming more and more convinced that she has uncovered a ticking bomb with the potential to overshadow 2008’s market crash. And as her own employer pursues “investment” strategies with ever-increasing levels of risk, she becomes convinced she must do something. Yet what can one person really do?

The markets are edging closer to a tipping point–like the teetering first domino in a standing row that circles the globe. And when Esther does sound the alarm, she wonders if anyone will take her seriously. But as public support grows for her ideas, so does the desperation of those whose conspiracy of greed she seeks to expose. With global markets on the brink, and her own life in danger, Esther is locked in a race with the clock to avert a worldwide financial meltdown.

This fast-paced suspense novel will make you wonder where the fiction ends and reality begins. . . .

1531 Entertainment has several Mystery suggestions for us. I’ve read and enjoyed both of them.

Rocco: a clean romantic suspense novel (Lantern Beach Blackout: The New Recruits Book 1)

Former Navy SEAL and new Blackout recruit Rocco Foster is on a simple in and out mission. But the operation turns complicated when an unsuspecting woman wanders into the line of fire.

Peyton Ellison’s life mission is to sprinkle happiness on those around her. When a cupcake delivery turns into a fight for survival, she must trust her rescuer—a handsome stranger—to keep her safe.

Rocco is determined to figure out why someone is targeting Peyton. First, he must keep the intriguing woman safe and earn her trust. But threats continue to pummel them as incriminating evidence emerges and pits them against each other.

With time running out, the two must set aside both their growing attraction and their doubts about each other in order to work together. But the perilous facts they discover leave them wondering what exactly the truth is . . . and if the truth can be trusted.

*************************

Haven of Swans: (previously published as Abomination) (Rock Harbor)

A beautiful woman stands by the side of the road, barefoot and bleeding, a child in her arms. Someone just tried to kill her, but she wouldn’t recognize him if she saw his face. She doesn’t even remember her own name.

A suburban cop surveys a kitchen in disarray—a woman and child missing, a chilling note. This crime scene is unlike any he has ever seen.

The man who calls himself Gideon waits and plans. He sees himself as a destroyer of evil, one who rids the world of abominations. He has already killed five. He will kill again.

And somewhere in the wilderness, in a secret geocache near where the wild swans gather, lies the unspeakable clue that links them all together.

Michigan’s rugged and beautiful Upper Peninsula is the setting for this absorbing tale of love and loss, beauty and terror, grievous sins and second chances. A deftly woven thriller from the bestselling author of the Rock Harbor novels.

*********************************

My current read is taking some serious will-power to put down. I’m not surprised since this is from another one of my favorite authors.

At 24% in, there are parallel but totally different stories going on. I can’t imagine what the connection could possibly be. We know there has to be one. I mean, who writes two separate stories in the same book, for no good reason? This whole thing definitely adds to the allurement.

Collateral Damage (Danger Never Sleeps Book #1)

Honorably discharged from the Army after an explosion nearly killed her, former military psychiatrist Brooke Adams has set up shop to help others–but her days of helping military personnel are over. She’s got her own battles to fight from her time overseas, and she’s not equipped to take on more. Former Army Special Ops Sergeant First Class Asher James could handle anything that war sent his way–terrorists, bombs, bullets. The only thing that scares him now is sleep. As the shadows close in, the nightmares begin.

Finally convinced that he needs help, Asher makes an appointment with a counselor, and Brooke is pressed by her boss to take him on. When he arrives at her office she isn’t there–but a dead body is. Brooke is devastated when she walks in, and Asher is a conveniently strong shoulder to cry on. But she can’t take him on as a client after sharing such an intimate and unprofessional moment, can she? And he’s not sure he can handle sharing his deepest fears with such a beautiful woman.

When it becomes clear that Brooke was the real target of the attack–and that her secrets go even deeper than his own–Asher vows to protect her no matter what.

Happy Reading!

Read and enjoyed January 16, 2022

Two finished, one to go. This has been an excellent reading day.

The first one, finished early today, was enjoyed even though there was something familiar about it, as if I’d read it before. Maybe it was in a collection or something. I couldn’t decide for sure where it could have been. Still, it was time well spent.

Ranger Faith (Texas Ranger Heroes Book 4)

Last Christmas, profiler Emilia Sanchez barely escaped the clutches of a serial killer. All she wants is to forget the incident and move on with her life, especially since the murderer is dead. But when she receives a poinsettia along with a threatening message, it triggers Emilia’s worst fears—that she’s not safe after all.

Texas Ranger Bennett Knox has steered clear of Emilia since the day he rescued her from a killer. The beautiful profiler is smart and brave, but Bennett knows his presence brings back painful memories. The case has always haunted him too. He had concerns with the way the investigation ended.

***************************

The second book was started and finished today. On one hand, it was an enjoyable read, on the other hand, it wasn’t. That’s why I was able to finish it quickly and move on to my third book for the day. The problem was excessive unnecessary detail. I will confess to reading less than half of the book, jumping ahead every four or five chapters to find out how it ended. It was worth it.

I did enjoy the parts that were vital to the story and would be happy to see a rewrite.

Sophie’s Search (Search the North Country Book 1)

Sophie Stearns and her search dog, Belle, flee to the mountains that feed her soul and straight into the arms of the one man she could truly love. If only he didn’t hate her.
Widowed and buried in debt, Sophie Stearns is not going to pin her dreams on a man again – even if Patrick O’Brien is the man of her dreams.

Patrick O’Brien learned the hard way city girls will rip a man’s heart out to get what they want. After his ex-wife’s betrayal, he bolted to the Adirondacks to lick his wounds and forge a new life protecting the fragile mountain ecosystem from development. The best way to stop the newest threat, Shopsmart is to shutdown their environmental engineering contractor, Sophie Stearns.

When a saboteur destroys Sophie’s project and threatens her life, only Patrick’s intervention can save her business. But Patrick must decide which is more important: his principles or his need to protect the Adirondacks.

***************************

This current read is the best of the three. No speed reading or skipping ahead chapters at a time. I know for sure something vital would be missed and time would be wasted backtracking to see what it was. To say nothing about ruining a perfectly enjoyable read with foolish interruptions.

Expired Getaway (Last Chance County Book 7)

Bridget’s whole world came crashing down six years ago. Now she’s back in her home town with a murderous colleague and a cartel on her tail, and no idea of the secret that awaits her. If she doesn’t track down the enemy, their entire client list could be in danger—along with everyone she loves.

Last Chance police officer Aiden Donaldson wants nothing more than to right the wrongs he’s done by being the best cop—and father—he can be. Until the woman he thought he’d lost comes back into his life, throwing his best laid plans upside down. While the threat comes from every direction, Aiden and Bridget must reconnect if they’re going to have a hope of coming through this. With the help of their friends they just might find the last chance they’ve been looking for.

I’m paused at an exciting part and need to get back to it while there is still time to find out what happened. Are they still alive? And is he is as angry and I think he is? Keeping secrets is hard on a marriage but her secret… Whoa.
