I have to share. It’s that good. It’s one of the books we downloaded yesterday and I’m half way through it even though there were other things I’ve had to take care of today. I love it when I find a book I can’t bear to put down.
It’s well written and has a different take on the serial killer theme. That’s the best part in my estimation. This serial killer is crazy, I have to say. He leaves us all shaking our heads at his strange decisions.
Check it out.
Critical Threat (Extreme Measures Book #3): (An FBI Suspense Thriller and Action-Filled Crime Fiction)
“Eason is a master of edge-of-your seat inspirational romantic thrillers.”–Booklist starred review
FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley tracks serial killers, using her skills as a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst to get dangerous people off the street and safely behind bars. But prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe knows that just because a killer is incarcerated doesn’t mean they’re not a threat. His own father, Peter, is a serial killer–in prison but certainly not out of Sam’s life, as much as he wishes he was.
When bodies start showing up with Peter’s MO, Sam and Grace are both called in to consult. They’ve met before–and though Grace thought they’d made a real connection, Sam ghosted her. They’ll have to get past the awkwardness and mistrust to solve this case–especially because it’s about to get personal.

It’s almost time for lights out, I’d better hurry and squeeze in a few more chapters before it’s gets too much later. I’m not good at quitting at a sensible time. I’ll let you know how it goes.
It’s been awhile since we’ve had any new books and today we have one. How great is that? It’s a dark theme but the beginning looks interesting. I’d like to see how it all goes for the sisters as they uncover secrets.
Fresh Scars: A Tale of the Power of Dark Family Secrets
Time heals all wounds. . . or does it?
Asia Butler and her sister, Ivy Butler Morelli, have not spoken in fifteen years. The two endured brutal emotional abuse from their mother, Veronica, and want only to forget the past . . . and each other.
But the past comes calling when they each receive a letter from Veronica’s attorney promising much needed cash if they will fulfill her dying wish and consent to cleaning out their childhood home. Asia and Ivy reluctantly return to their hometown of Emerson, Florida, only to discover the house is a hoarder’s nightmare filled with strange mementos and clues hinting that they were not the only victims of Veronica’s sadistic nature. Can this new pain be the path to their healing? Will they be able to choose forgiveness over resentment?

In Regency England, one letter will alter a young woman’s fate when it summons her to Briarton Park—an ancient estate that holds the secrets of her past and the keys to her future.

But her world shifts when a shocking deathbed confession reveals a two-year-old letter from Mr. Clark, the master of Briarton Park, with hints to her family’s identity. Stung by betrayal, Cassandra travels to the village of Anston only to learn Mr. Clark has since passed away.

A Colleen Coble book showed up, one I’ve not seen before. This is a good day! We’ve read and enjoyed book 1 in this series, a few months ago.
Dark of Night (An Annie Pederson Novel Book 2)
The law is about justice—not grace. But perhaps ranger Annie Pederson can find a way to have both.
As if the last few months haven’t been hard enough—complete with threats on her life and the return of her first love, Jon—Annie has to figure out whether or not to believe a woman who claims to be her sister, Sarah, who was abducted twenty-four years ago at age five. Annie’s eight-year-old daughter, Kylie, has plenty of questions about what’s going on in her mother’s life—but there are some stories Annie doesn’t want uncovered.
As Annie grapples with how to heal the gulf between her and her would-be sister and make room in her daughter’s life for Jon, she’s professionally distracted by the case of yet another missing hiker in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A woman named Michelle Fraser has now been abducted, and though the woman’s estranged husband is at the top of their suspect list, Annie and her colleagues will need to dig deeper to determine whether these recent mysteries are truly as unrelated as they seem.

Another awesome book that I can’t say no to. Lynette Eason is a favorite author we see often. This is book 3 in the series and we’ve read book 1. Book 2 could always show up later, it’s been known to happen.

A new site I forgot I signed up for has come through with some great suggestions. It looks good so far anyway.
I’ve read and enjoyed books from this first author before. I like witness protection stories.
No True Justice: Witness Protection 2
They forced her into witness protection, not to protect her, but to shut her up. After testifying in a high-profile case, Gemma Saint, a young intern at an influential media outlet, is forced into WITSEC by corrupt DOJ officials to silence her. When Gemma’s testimony at a retrial threatens their elaborate conspiracy to control the upcoming presidential election. Gemma learns from her WITSEC Inspector her identity was compromised and someone in the DOJ has sent a team to kill her. After her Inspector is shot, Gemma sees only one chance to survive and resume her old life—expose the conspiracy, completely. She seeks help from Lex James, a young investigative journalist. Gemma offers him the biggest story of his career. But Lex was recently given custody of his deceased sister’s four-year-old, twins, Josh and Caleb. Sparks fly when Lex and Gemma meet, and the boys see their mother in her. But can she endanger this fragile family? Can she run away, sacrificing her life and the course of her beloved country? Lex has difficult choices, too. But the highly gifted boys, Josh and Caleb, have their own opinion about what should happen. Set in the beautiful Central Oregon desert near Lake Billy Chinook and Crooked River Ranch, No True Justice is clean, high-action romantic suspense at its best. A story with chills, thrills, love, and laughter.

It turns out I’ve read this first book, it’s in a collection from several years ago, so I looked a little further and came up with a few more books from him that look interesting.

BookRunes has a good looking suggestion for us this morning. This is a relatively new author and one I’ve not read but want to. I’m excited to get into it.

As usual, I was hoping for more in the way of new books and thought for a moment that it would happen. Sadly, it wasn’t to be. I’m excited to start this new one though so it’s still a good day.
It’s been a dry spell but relief is in sight. We have one book and, hopefully, there will be more. So, BookRunes has this first one and it’s FREE.

This bargain book looks interesting and it’s also an exposure to an author I read once or twice seven years ago. Experiencing something current from her would be awesome.
Love and a Little White Lie (State of Grace)
There’s a lot of irony in hitting rock bottom
After a heartbreak leaves her reeling, January Sanders is open to anything–including moving into a cabin on her aunt’s wedding-venue property and accepting a temporary position at her aunt’s church despite being a lifelong skeptic of faith. What she doesn’t count on is meeting the church’s handsome and charming guitarist. It’s a match set for disaster, and yet January has no ability to stay away, even if it means pretending to have faith in a God she doesn’t believe in.
Only this time, keeping her secret isn’t as easy as she thought it would be. Especially when she’s constantly running into her aunt’s landscape architect, who seems to know everything about her past-and-present sins and makes no apologies about pushing her to deal with feelings she’d rather keep buried.
Torn between two worlds that can’t coexist, can January find the healing that’s eluded her, or will her resistance to the truth ruin any chance of happiness?

I was hoping for more but it didn’t work out. Next time.
It’s been a while, we have a book. Maybe even two if we are lucky. This is an author I’ve enjoyed for many years.

The read pile is starting to build up again and a clear out is on the agenda, soon.

Carolyne Aarsen has a 6 book series out. Several years ago she published this as a three book series, now we get the next three books. The up side is that I will only need to read three books to get through this, and if you haven’t read the first three, you get all six of them. What a deal.

That’s enough new books for today, I think, it’s time to quit. Although I must say, it is awfully tempting to keep looking.
Browsing seems to be working for me today. There is one book popping up from an author new to me and I’d like to see what his work is like.
The Long Way Home (The Davenport Series Book 1)
He had a boat. She needed a ride. A simple lift became the adventure of a lifetime.
After being stranded in Nassau, Meg Freeman ran into Jon Davenport, an old friend from her past, who offered her a ride home on his yacht. Before making the trip, they decided to visit a deserted island and scuba dive a beautiful coral reef. While diving, they discovered evidence of an ancient shipwreck, but they weren’t the only ones looking for treasure in this tropical paradise. For some people, however, treasure didn’t mean lost gold, and who had to be hurt in the search for riches didn’t matter.
I’ve just finished three in a row, books I couldn’t put down. There are several others too but we’ll look at these three first. Valerie Hansen has now been added to my favorites list. The other thing I noticed was the expiry of the bargain price, it didn’t last long that’s for sure.
The Rookie’s Assignment (Fitzgerald Bay Book 2)
Law enforcement in Fitzgerald Bay is full of Fitzgeralds, from the chief of police to brand-new detective Keira Fitzgerald. Are they tampering with a murder investigation to protect one of their own? Internal affairs detective Nick Delfino is sent undercover to investigate the powerful clan. Yet the deeper he digs, the more Nick comes to admire the Fitzgeralds…especially his rookie partner, Keira. When a killer targets Nick, can he maintain his cover, catch his attacker and protect Keira while the looming danger closes in?
My favorite aspects of this book were the great characters and the complex development of the story line.
This next one is still a bargain. The thing I love most about this story is that it is nothing like the one above. Different setting, different scenario, different characters too and all of it was awesome.
Dangerous Devotion Valerie Hansen
From the majestic Ozarks to exotic jungles, from hometown to the unknown, Jessica and Greg are running against the clock. Their love and faith put to the test, just how far must they go? And is Jess’s devotion to Greg more dangerous than the relentless enemy at their heels?
I look forward to reading more from this author.
